Saints | Mark Ingram learning from Adrian Peterson

Fri, 16 Jun 2017 08:50:05 -0700

New Orleans Saints RB Mark Ingram said he is competing with RB Adrian Peterson but is also learning from him. Ingram noted that he and Peterson recently discussed how to balance patience, vision, decisiveness and aggression when trying to get first-down yardage on third and short. Ingram said putting his head down and barreling forward toward the first sign of an opening has been his inclination, but sometimes a choice he regretted because, "If you would have followed your read and followed the guard outside, you would have had a 30-yard run." Ingram recalled Peterson telling him, "I've noticed that in that time you just have to slow down and trust your eyes."

Fantasy Tip: Ingram will still be a factor, but his touches will be affected by Peterson's arrival. Ingram has been a better receiver of late, though, and that could give him the nod on third downs. Ingram is a high-end RB3, but if the team's approach shifts more to the running game, he could sneak into the RB2 area.

Saints | Saints using 'three-headed monster' at RB?

Mon, 01 May 2017 19:30:44 -0700

The New Orleans Saints' plan for the upcoming season is "likely to recreate their 2009 and 2011 potent backfield attack" when they implemented a "three-headed monster" at running back. This came to fruition when they drafted RB Alvin Kamara, who is a "prototypical third-down back" to complement RBs Mark Ingram and Adrian Peterson. Kamara could be in line to play a "Reggie Bush/Darren Sproles-type role."

Fantasy Tip: This could be a frustrating storyline for those who end up drafting Mark Ingram, seeing as he's proven he can be a productive workhorse back when he is healthy. At the same time, this development also indicates Peterson could turn out to be an excellent value pick if he's getting a good amount of work around the goal line. As for Kamara, owners might want to take a wait-and-see approach with the third-round pick.

Saints | Travaris Cadet to see reduced role?

Sun, 30 Apr 2017 19:27:02 -0700

New Orleans Saints RB Travaris Cadet will compete with RB Alvin Kamara for the third-down back role while RB Adrian Peterson and RB Mark Ingram serve as the traditional backs, according to beat writer Nick Underhill.

Fantasy Tip: After the Saints traded up for Kamara, he is going to be given a chance to show what he can do. Cadet's value was already limited to deeper PPR formats, and the addition of Kamara likely makes him a non-factor for fantasy purposes.

Saints | Mark Ingram fine with Peterson addition

Wed, 26 Apr 2017 11:49:55 -0700

New Orleans Saints RB Mark Ingram said he is fine with the team's signing of RB Adrian Peterson if his addition helps the team win. Ingram said he expected the team would add another running back and is not concerned about sharing playing time with Peterson.

Fantasy Tip: Ingram probably will be the starting running back for the Saints but likely will see less carries than he did in the past. He should still have a role in the passing game in 2017 and could be a No. 2 or No. 3 running back in fantasy leagues.

Saints | Mark Ingram will be the starter

Mon, 24 Apr 2017 13:56:44 -0700

New Orleans Saints RB Mark Ingram would still be the lead running back even if free-agent RB Adrian Peterson (Vikings) signed with the Saints, according to The New Orleans Advocate's Nick Underhill.

Fantasy Tip: Ingram's stock would take a hit, but he will remain the Saints' most appealing fantasy running back if the Peterson signing does come to fruition. As stated earlier, Ingram and Peterson should be viewed as an RB2 and RB3, respectively, if they are both healthy and if Peterson signs.

Saints | Mark Ingram productive at home, on road

Wed, 25 Jan 2017 16:49:12 -0800

New Orleans Saints RB Mark Ingram rushed for 514 yards and three touchdowns at home this season and rushed for 529 yards and three touchdowns on the road.

Fantasy Tip: Ingram had to share some of the work with Tim Hightower near the end of the season but posted solid numbers in 2016. Ingram has a decent chance to receive most of the work at running back next season and can be a No. 2 running back in fantasy leagues.

Saints | Mark Ingram posts first 1,000-yard season

Sun, 01 Jan 2017 22:32:46 -0800

New Orleans Saints RB Mark Ingram rushed 20 times for 103 yards and a touchdown in the Week 17 game against the Atlanta Falcons. He went over 1,000 yards for the first time in his NFL career.

Fantasy Tip: Ingram stayed healthy and was outstanding for fantasy owners down the stretch, including 193 rushing yards and three scores in the final two games. He looks like a legitimate RB1 in all fantasy leagues heading into 2017.

Saints | Mark Ingram scores two TDs

Sat, 24 Dec 2016 23:26:09 -0800

New Orleans Saints RB Mark Ingram ran 18 times for 90 yards and scored two touchdowns in a 31-24 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Fantasy Tip: For one week, at least, the Saints running game was back on track. Ingram had a decent day, and he goes into the 2017 offseason as a possible RB2 or RB3 on fantasy lists. What prevents him from being an RB1 is the presence of RB Tim Hightower, who had eight carries and 29 yards.

Saints | Mark Ingram totals 92 yards

Sun, 18 Dec 2016 21:57:31 -0800

New Orleans Saints RB Mark Ingram (toe, knee) rushed 17 times for 78 yards in the Week 15 game against the Arizona Cardinals. He also added two receptions for 14 yards on four targets.

Fantasy Tip: Ingram had his third-highest yardage total from scrimmage since Week 3, but he has been held out of the end zone for each of the past three outings. He should be treated as more of a low-end RB2 heading into Week 16.

Saints | Mark Ingram not on injury report

Fri, 16 Dec 2016 18:57:56 -0800

New Orleans Saints RB Mark Ingram (toe, knee) was a limited participant in practice Friday, Dec. 16, and he isn't listed on the Week 15 injury report.

Fantasy Tip: Ingram has RB2 upside, but his inconsistent production and a tough matchup against Arizona make him better suited as a flex play in Week 15.
