The Palm Beach Post is reporting Florida Marlins 3B Jorge Jimenez has been impressing coaches with his play in the spring. His chances of starting the season at third will be determined, in part, on the competition at first base between prospects Gaby Sanchez and Logan Morrison. If neither are ready, 3B Jorge Cantu will move to first and Jimenez could start at third.

According to The Palm Beach Post's Joe Capozzi, there is a situation where IF Jorge Jimenez could open the season at third base for the Florida Marlins. Capozzi speculates if 1B Logan Morrison or 1B Gaby Sanchez do not play well in spring camp, 3B Jorge Cantu could open the season at first and allow Jimenez, a Rule 5 selection, to open 2010 in the majors.

According to The South Florida SunSentinel, Florida Marlins Ps Dan Meyer, Hayden Penn, Renyel Pinto, Brian Sanches and Leo Nunez, IFs Wes Helms and Jorge Jimenez, and OF Cody Ross are all out of options entering spring camp. That means they must clear waivers if the team wishes to assign them to the minors.
