The Washington Nationals placed RP Ryan Mattheus (hand) on the 15-day disabled list with a fractured right hand Tuesday, May 21, and recalled RPs Fernando Abad and Yunesky Maya from the minors in corresponding moves. Also, OF Eury Perez was optioned.

The Washington Nationals reassigned SP Ross Ohlendorf and SS Zach Walters to minor league camp. The team also optioned Ps Ryan Perry, Erik Davis and Yunesky Maya, INF Chris Marrero, C Jhonatan Solano and OF Corey Brown to Triple-A Syracuse.

Nationals | Starter for Sunday undetermined

The Washington Nationals have yet to name a starter for their game against the Milwaukee Brewers Sunday, Sept. 23, but manager Davey Johnson said it'll likely be between SPs Craig Stammen and Chien-Ming Wang. SP Zach Duke is not an option because Johnson wants to roll with a right-handed pitcher against the Brewers. SPs Yunesky Maya and Ryan Perry are not options because the team is ruling out calling up an arm from the minors.

The Washington Nationals assigned Ps Yunesky Maya, Jeff Fulchino and Waldis Joaquin and OF Eury Perez to minor league camp Thursday, March 15. Maya was sent to Triple-A Syracuse and Perez landed in Double-A Harrisburg.

Washington Nationals SP Yunesky Maya (elbow) is dealing with a sore right elbow while pitching in the Puerto Rican Winter League. However, the injury isn't considered serious. He gave up four runs in one inning in his first outing Friday, Nov. 4. It's not known if Maya will return to the States to be evaluated.

Washington Nationals SP Brad Peacock is expected to come up to make his major league debut next month, but he is likely to be used more as a relief pitcher than a starter. 2B Steve Lombardozzi and Ps Craig Stammen, Yunesky Maya and Doug Slaten and OF Roger Bernadina are also expected to be September call-ups.
