Lions | Golden Tate expected to miss a few weeks

Mon, 16 Oct 2017 10:14:22 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Golden Tate (shoulder) is scheduled to undergo an MRI soon, but the expectation is he will miss "some time," according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: Tate and his fantasy owners catch a bit of a break with Detroit on bye in Week 7, but the source believes he will miss a few weeks, leaving the Lions without their top receiver. His expected absence could free up targets in the slot for Eric Ebron or help the team get Theo Riddick more involved in the passing game once again. Detroit could also be getting Kenny Golladay from a hamstring injury, although he is not going to replace Tate's snaps in the slot.

Lions | Golden Tate suffers shoulder injury

Sun, 15 Oct 2017 17:56:37 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Golden Tate (shoulder) suffered a shoulder injury late in the third quarter of the Week 6 game against the New Orleans Saints.

Fantasy Tip: Tate had a nice game, so hopefully this injury isn't something to keep him out long. The good news is that he has two weeks to rest with the bye Week 7.

Lions | Golden Tate posts 96 yards, TD

Sun, 15 Oct 2017 16:54:22 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Golden Tate racked up seven receptions for 96 yards and a touchdown on seven targets in the Week 6 game against the New Orleans Saints.

Fantasy Tip: Tate had his largest yardage total since he opened the season with 107 yards on 10 grabs in Week 1 against the Cardinals. He has been a bit erratic so far this season, but he has WR3 potential when the matchup is favorable. Unfortunately the Lions have a bye in Week 7.

Lions | Golden Tate has torched the Saints

Fri, 13 Oct 2017 21:06:57 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Golden Tate faces the New Orleans Saints in Week 6, and he has averaged eight catches for 115 yards and a touchdown in his last three meetings with the Saints.

Fantasy Tip: Tate leads the team in targets, receptions and yards, and he should be a strong WR2 in a friendly matchup against the Saints.

Lions | Four grabs for Golden Tate

Sun, 08 Oct 2017 15:25:22 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Golden Tate managed five catches for 48 yards on eight targets in Week 5 against the Carolina Panthers.

Fantasy Tip: Tate has 29 grabs on 40 targets through five games which is good for fantasy owners, but he hasn't had a 100-yard game since Week 1 while visiting the end zone just once back in Week 3. Both of those streaks could end in Week 6 when he faces a favorable matchup down in New Orleans.

Lions | Golden Tate totals four touches

Sun, 01 Oct 2017 15:02:47 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Golden Tate posted three receptions for 29 yards on five targets in Week 4 against the Minnesota Vikings and he added one run for just two yards.

Fantasy Tip: There will be better days for Tate. He has been limited to 14 receptions for just 112 yards over the past three games after exploding for 107 receiving yards in Week 1. He still has 24 grabs over his four games and remains a decent PPR fantasy option heading into Week 5 against the Carolina Panthers.

Lions | Golden Tate posts four receptions

Mon, 18 Sep 2017 20:50:02 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Golden Tate posted four catches for 25 yards in Week 2 against the New York Giants on Monday, Sept. 18.

Fantasy Tip: Tate had four of the six catches by Detroit wide receivers, but no one really had a huge night with an offense that was run heavy. He'll look for better results in Week 3 against the visiting Falcons.

Lions | Golden Tate on track to play

Sat, 16 Sep 2017 11:25:11 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Golden Tate (finger) fully participated in practice Saturday, Sept. 16, and is not on the injury report for Week 2.

Fantasy Tip: Tate recorded 10 catches and 107 yards in Week 1 and will continue to be a focal point in the passing game. He will be facing a tougher defense this week but should still be at least a No. 2 fantasy receiver in all leagues.

Lions | Golden Tate a full-go Friday

Fri, 15 Sep 2017 14:32:44 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Golden Tate (finger) practiced in full Friday, Sept. 15.

Fantasy Tip: Tate is expected to play without a hitch Monday night. The matchup is difficult, so he's a low-end WR2, in best-case scenario this week.

Lions | Golden Tate limited due to finger

Thu, 14 Sep 2017 13:30:17 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Golden Tate (finger) was limited in practice Thursday, Sept. 14.

Fantasy Tip: Tate doesn't appear to be in serious jeopardy of missing out on Week 2, but his status should be tracked heading into the weekend nonetheless. Assuming he's good to go, he's a solid WR2 play.

Lions | Golden Tate racks up 107 yards

Sun, 10 Sep 2017 16:34:29 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Golden Tate posted game highs with 10 receptions and 107 yards in Week 1 against the Cardinals. He was targeted 12 times.

Fantasy Tip: Tate is Matthew Stafford's top target and he certainly looked the part in the opener. Despite the fact he drew Patrick Peterson in cover, he showed well. He'll look to build on this effort into Week 2 at N.Y. Giants. Tate remains a WR2 in most fantasy leagues.

Lions | Golden Tate to draw Patrick Peterson

Fri, 08 Sep 2017 20:42:19 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Golden Tate will likely be shadowed by Arizona Cardinals CB Patrick Peterson in Week 1, according to Josh Weinfuss of ESPN.com.

Fantasy Tip: Tate is the top option in the Detroit passing attack and a WR2 candidate most weeks, but a matchup with one of the best corners in the game downgrades him into WR3 territory in Week 1.

Lions | Golden Tate a popular target

Fri, 25 Aug 2017 18:59:46 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Golden Tate caught all five passes thrown his way for 62 yards against the New England Patriots in the preseason Friday, Aug. 25.

Fantasy Tip: Tate looked every bit the part of Matthew Stafford's go-to target, and he should be one of the safest WR2 options, especially in PPR formats.

Lions | Golden Tate could shift to slot

Tue, 22 Aug 2017 06:30:37 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Golden Tate could play more in the slot with WR Kenny Golladay potentially ready for a starting spot outside.

Fantasy Tip: Tate is built more like a slot receiver, and he doesn't get enough credit for what he has done the last three seasons somewhat out of position on the outside. He'll remain their top receiving option, and the move could only be a positive. He's a strong WR2 in fantasy.

Lions | Golden Tate supports Matthew Stafford

Sun, 16 Jul 2017 18:30:46 -0700

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford needs a contract extension as soon as possible, according to WR Golden Tate. "They gotta get that done," Tate said "He deserves it. He does everything right. You don't have to worry about him getting in trouble. He balls-out. He's tough as nails. He's what you want in a quarterback."

Fantasy Tip: Tate has enjoyed plenty of success catching passes from Stafford, so it is no surprise that he is a believer. Stafford enters the season as a dependable QB1, and Tate is a quality WR2.

Lions | Golden Tate a reception machine

Sun, 16 Jul 2017 17:11:52 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Golden Tate has the sixth-most receptions in the NFL since signing with Detroit in 2014, and he has reached 90 receptions in all three seasons with the team.

Fantasy Tip: Tate is locked in as Matthew Stafford's go-to option. He is an underrated WR2 with a high floor in PPR formats.

Lions | Golden Tate tough to bring down

Wed, 12 Jul 2017 07:09:59 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Golden Tate was seventh in the NFL last season with 153 receiving yards after contact.

Fantasy Tip: Tate started slowly, but he ended up with a 91-1,077-4 line. He's an underrated WR2 in fantasy.

Lions | Golden Tate leads in forced missed tackles

Mon, 10 Jul 2017 21:38:22 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Golden Tate has forced 53 missed tackles since 2015, the most in the NFL by a wide receiver over that span.

Fantasy Tip: Tate has been a target and reception machine since joining Detroit in 2014, racking up at least 90 catches and drawing more than 125 targets in each of his three years with the Lions. Considering his talents and the high-powered offense he plays in with Matthew Stafford under center, it looks like Tate can be relied upon again as a WR2 in 2017.

Lions | Golden Tate addresses contract status

Sat, 10 Jun 2017 16:03:32 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Golden Tate addressed reporters that he believes he is "underpaid", but the veteran wideout is unlikely to seek a contract extension during the 2017 season. Tate told reporters he is "eyeing a new deal" within the next couple years but is not demanding one.

Fantasy Tip: Tate has had three straight seasons of 90 catches or more and has 1,831 yards after catch since coming to the Lions in 2014. He will go fairly high as a WR1 in most drafts.

Lions | Golden Tate overcame slow start

Sat, 25 Feb 2017 21:22:51 -0800

Detroit Lions WR Golden Tate averaged 3.4 catches, 6.1 targets and 26.8 yards per game over the first five games of 2016, but he posted per-game averages of 6.7 catches, 9.5 targets and 85.7 yards over the final 11 games.

Fantasy Tip: Despite the slow start, Tate reached 90 receptions for the third straight year and topped 1,000 yards. He should be a dependable WR2 in PPR formats in 2017.

Lions | Six catches for Golden Tate

Mon, 26 Dec 2016 21:50:59 -0800

Detroit Lions WR Golden Tate posted six receptions for 58 yards on his six targets in the Week 16 game against the Dallas Cowboys Monday, Dec. 26.

Fantasy Tip: Tate's production has been erratic lately, posting 100-yard games in two of the past four while sandwiched around a pair of mediocre performances. He does have six or more grabs in four straight and eight of the past 10 to help those in PPR fantasy formats.

Lions | Golden Tate has 100-yard game

Sun, 18 Dec 2016 14:05:17 -0800

Detroit Lions WR Golden Tate caught eight of his 13 targeted passes for 122 yards in a 17-6 loss to the New York Giants.

Fantasy Tip: One of his passes was a 67-yard strike from Matthew Stafford, and that was more a victim of the Giants giving up big plays than anything else. If Tate can do this against a defense like New York, however, then he's worth starting as a WR1.

Lions | Golden Tate records six receptions

Sun, 11 Dec 2016 20:50:43 -0800

Detroit Lions WR Golden Tate picked up six receptions for 58 yards on a game-high 11 targets in the Week 14 game against the Chicago Bears.

Fantasy Tip: Tate has totaled 19 catches for 280 yards and a touchdown over the past three games. He has re-emerged as a useful WR3 in most fantasy formats after a touch stretch in early November.

Lions | Golden Tate has explosive game

Sun, 04 Dec 2016 14:42:18 -0800

Detroit Lions WR Golden Tate finished with eight catches and 145 yards, including a 66-yard touchdown scamper, in a 28-13 win over the New Orleans Saints.

Fantasy Tip: Tate took advantage of a porous Saints pass defense on his long touchdown, but the bigger story is how well Tate did overall. Take away that long TD and he still had 79 receiving yards. Tate is a strong WR1 on a Lions squad with plenty of pass-catching options.

Lions | Golden Tate quiet in victory

Sun, 20 Nov 2016 17:54:06 -0800

Detroit Lions WR Golden Tate posted three receptions for 27 yards in the Week 11 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. He was targeted four times.

Fantasy Tip: Tate crushed his fantasy owners with three grabs, his fewest since Week 5. He entered with 32 receptions over the past four outings with at least 79 yards in three of the four games. Tate will look to rebound in Week 12 against the Vikings on Thanksgiving. He posted 11 grabs for 79 yards and a touchdown in Week 9 in the first meeting in Minnesota.

Lions | Golden Tate runs away a winner

Sun, 06 Nov 2016 14:58:45 -0800

Detroit Lions WR Golden Tate finished with 11 catches, 79 yards, and a 28-yard touchdown catch from QB Matthew Stafford in overtime. The Lions beat the Minnesota Vikings, 22-16.

Fantasy Tip: Tate's strong outing elevated his status among fantasy owners. Tate shouldn't be your WR1 but a WR2/WR3 is not out of the question. He and Stafford have developed a nice rapport.

Lions | Golden Tate targeted 12 times in win

Sun, 23 Oct 2016 17:42:48 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Golden Tate had six receptions for 93 yards in the Week 7 game against the Washington Redskins. He was targeted 12 times.

Fantasy Tip: Tate started out very slowly, and likely was dropped by a high percentage of fantasy owners. However, he has 14 catches for 258 yards and a score over his past two games, and he has been targeted 22 times. Matthew Stafford has re-discovered Tate, and he has re-emerged as a trustworthy fantasy option in most formats heading into Week 8 in Houston.

Lions | Golden Tate finally looks golden

Sun, 16 Oct 2016 20:36:20 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Golden Tate posted eight receptions for a game-high 165 yards and a touchdown in the Week 6 game against the Los Angeles Rams. He was targeted 10 times.

Fantasy Tip: Tate had been a huge disappointment to date, posting just 17 receptions for 134 yards in his first five games, so a lot of fantasy owners likely had benched or dropped him, missing out on this gem. If he is available off the waiver wire he is worth a look in fantasy leagues of 12 or more teams heading into Week 7 against Washington.

Lions | Golden Tate may see time in backfield

Sat, 15 Oct 2016 12:26:35 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Golden Tate may lineup at running back at times during the team's Week 6 game in order to be a receiver out of the backfield.

Fantasy Tip: Tate saw time at running back in the last game and likely will be used there again because of Theo Riddick's injury. Tate has been pretty quiet so far this season but should still be at least a flex option for owners.

Lions | Golden Tate disappoints in Week 5

Sun, 09 Oct 2016 17:29:43 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Golden Tate posted three receptions for just 39 yards in the Week 5 game against the Philadelphia Eagles. He was targeted five times.

Fantasy Tip: Tate was counted upon to be a player filling the void following the retirement of Calvin Johnson, but Tate has been a bust with just 17 grabs, 134 yards and no touchdowns through five games. He is only worth keeping around as a WR4 until he starts to produce.

Lions | OC expects big things from Golden Tate

Thu, 06 Oct 2016 09:40:38 -0700

Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter said he expects WR Golden Tate to have a big game against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 5.

Fantasy Tip: Tate has caught only 14 passes for 95 yards and zero touchdowns in the first four games of the season, but the team says he is still an important part of the offense. Owners can still consider him a starting option but he is more of a No. 2 or No. 3 receiver in most leagues.

Lions | Golden Tate still has integral role in offense

Mon, 03 Oct 2016 10:00:11 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Golden Tate was not benched in a Week 4 loss against the Chicago Bears and remains an important part of the offense, according to head coach Jim Caldwell.

Fantasy Tip: Considering Tate played only 36 of 63 snaps and saw very little playing time after Matthew Stafford was seen yelling at him for running the wrong route on an interception, it's probably safe to assume he was benched. This season has been a startling fall from grace for the 28-year-old Notre Dame product, who recorded at least 90 catches in both of his first two years in Detroit. It's still too early to drop him in most competitive leagues, but he doesn't warrant a fantasy start anytime soon either.

Lions | Golden Tate still Detroit's No. 1 WR?

Fri, 30 Sep 2016 21:32:42 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Golden Tate is still the top option in the passing game, according to offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter, and Cooter said Tate's slow start is a product of the offense's emphasis of spreading the ball around.

Fantasy Tip: While Marvin Jones and Theo Riddick thrive, Tate has just 94 yards through three games. Tate should have his chance to shine at some point, and he has enough upside to use as a WR3 against a winless Bears team in Week 4.

Lions | Golden Tate catches 2 of 13 targets

Sun, 18 Sep 2016 14:42:30 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Golden Tate hauled in two passes on 13 targets for 13 yards Sunday, Sept. 18, versus the Tennessee Titans in Week 2.

Fantasy Tip: Tate was unable to get in sync with QB Matthew Stafford and should be given the benefit of the doubt in Week 3, particularly if Green Bay is without CB Sam Shields. Tate shouldn't be trusted quite as much, however.

Lions | Golden Tate active

Sun, 11 Sep 2016 12:44:46 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Golden Tate (ankle) is officially active for the team's Week 1 game.

Fantasy Tip: Tate will be a major factor in the passing game this season and should be a No. 2 wide receiver in most fantasy leagues.

Lions | Golden Tate questionable for Week 1

Fri, 09 Sep 2016 13:33:06 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Golden Tate (ankle) fully participated in practice Friday, Sept. 9, and is listed as questionable for Week 1.

Fantasy Tip: Tate should be fine for the game since has been able to fully practice in each of the last two days. Tate will be the Lions' No. 1 receiver this season and will be a fine No. 2 wide receiver in most fantasy leagues.

Lions | Full practice for Golden Tate

Thu, 08 Sep 2016 14:06:46 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Golden Tate (ankle) participated fully in practice Thursday, Sept. 8.

Fantasy Tip: Tate is a good start this week, especially now that we know he'll be full throttle. The Lions matchup with the Indianapolis Colts could prove to be the first real shootout of 2016. Tate makes for a solid WR2 option and could approach WR1 numbers if the scores are back and forth.

Lions | Golden Tate limited

Wed, 07 Sep 2016 16:35:46 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Golden Tate (ankle) was limited during practice Wednesday, Sept. 7.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will need to check on Tate's status later in the week to see if he is in any danger of missing Week 1. Tate will be the team's No. 1 receiver with Calvin Johnson retired and will be a weekly starting option as long as he is healthy.

Lions | Detroit going no-huddle often

Thu, 25 Aug 2016 06:12:39 -0700

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford and the other Lions quarterbacks have run a no-huddle offense 62% of the time this preseason. The Lions ran a no-huddle offense just 7% of the time last season. According to ProFootballFocus, Stafford has completed all six of his passes for 108 yards when targeting WRs Golden Tate and Marvin Jones out of the no-huddle. He's 6-for-11 passing for 63 yards on the rest of his throws combined. Overall, Stafford has completed 70.6% of his passes this preseason.

Fantasy Tip: Stafford had a big second half last year with 19 touchdowns and two interceptions when offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter took over. He lost Megatron to retirement, but the show appears to roll on. Stafford is in the lower-middle portion of starting quarterbacks, but he could be on the cusp of that breakthrough year.

Lions | Golden Tate back at practice

Tue, 23 Aug 2016 15:10:17 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Golden Tate (undisclosed) returned to practice Tuesday, Aug. 23. The extent of his participation was not disclosed, however.

Fantasy Tip: Tate's mystery injury isn't a big deal, apparently. He should be good to go for this weekend and is still in the WR2 conversation in all formats with Calvin Johnson out of the picture.

Lions | Golden Tate misses practice

Sun, 21 Aug 2016 19:01:07 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Golden Tate (undisclosed) did not practice Saturday, Aug. 20. He wouldn't mention the specifics of his injury, but he talked about playing in the preseason game against the Baltimore Ravens Saturday, Aug. 27.

Fantasy Tip: Tate is set to be Detroit's top receiver in the wake of Calvin Johnson's retirement. He is a borderline WR2 in PPR formats and a solid WR3 in standard leagues.

Lions | Marvin Jones the top target

Wed, 10 Aug 2016 05:52:50 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Marvin Jones has been the team's top receiver in camp, and it hasn't been close, as WR Golden Tate has had issues holding onto the football. Jones was targeted on seven of the 14 passes QB Matthew Stafford threw in the joint practice Tuesday, Aug. 9.

Fantasy Tip: Jones is coming off a 65-816-4 year with the Bengals, and he had 10 touchdowns the previous year. He looks like a WR3 with a ton of upside right now. Tate is a weaker WR2 in fantasy, but if he slips to the WR3 range, you're in business.

Lions | Golden Tate has sure hands

Sun, 31 Jul 2016 23:21:00 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Golden Tate has had sure hands in camp while his counterparts have had issues. WR Jeremy Kerley had at least three of the six-plus drops in practice Saturday, July 30.

Fantasy Tip: Tate is a nice story of a middling slot receiver that emerged as a legit threat the last two years. He's coming off a 90-813-6 season, but you have to wonder if there is more, especially since he tallied 1,331 yards the previous season. He falls into the WR2/WR3 divide, but you'd be much better off with him as the latter. Kerley should be an afterthought in fantasy, but he could enter the WR5 conversation if he reels his issues in.

Lions | Golden Tate wants to return punts

Fri, 29 Jul 2016 18:50:29 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Golden Tate has expressed his interest in continuing to serve as the club's primary punt returner this season. He averaged 7.5 yards per return in 2015.

Fantasy Tip: Tate is expected to be the team's No. 1 receiver following the retirement of Calvin Johnson and he has actually led the Lions in receptions over the past two seasons. However, Detroit may want to avoid using him on special teams because he is such a valuable part of their offense. WRs T.J. Jones, Jeremy Kerley and Andre Roberts also have plenty of experience returning punts and could compete for the role during the preseason.

Lions | Quiet finish for Golden Tate

Sun, 03 Jan 2016 19:59:00 -0800

Detroit Lions WR Golden Tate posted four receptions for 34 yards in the Week 17 game against the Chicago Bears. He was targeted six times.

Fantasy Tip: Tate helped early in the fantasy playoffs, posting four total touchdowns from Week 14 to 15, but he managed just eight grabs for 93 yards and no scores in the final two games. He remains more of a WR2/3 or flex fantasy option heading into 2016 after hauling in 90 receptions for 813 yards and six scores.

Lions | Pair of scores for Golden Tate

Mon, 21 Dec 2015 22:48:53 -0800

Detroit Lions WR Golden Tate posted six receptions for 45 yards and a pair of touchdowns in the Week 15 game against the New Orleans Saints Monday, Dec. 21.

Fantasy Tip: Tate made the best of his team-high six targets. Despite the two first-half scores he remains more of a WR3 or flex FantasyScore option going forward.

Lions | Golden Tate finds end zone twice

Sun, 13 Dec 2015 18:25:53 -0800

Detroit Lions WR Golden Tate posted nine receptions for 60 yards and a pair of touchdowns in the Week 14 game against the St. Louis Rams. He was targeted 10 times.

Fantasy Tip: Tate was the receiver of choice with Calvin Johnson nearly non-existent. Everyone in the Detroit passing game should excel in Week 15 against a terrible New Orleans Saints pass defense in Week 15 on Monday night.
