Padres | Jedd Gyorko playing shortstop

Tue, 25 Aug 2015 13:23:43 -0700

San Diego Padres 2B Jedd Gyorko is at shortstop Tuesday, Aug. 25, against the Washington Nationals. SS Alexi Amarista is seated.

Fantasy Tip: Gyorko ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) actually has a fairly warm bat over the past week (.308) and against Nationals SP Stephen Strasburg (.286), which likely accounts for his inclusion in the lineup.

Padres | No Jedd Gyorko vs. Braves

Tue, 18 Aug 2015 15:49:56 -0700

San Diego Padres 2B Jedd Gyorko is not in the starting lineup Tuesday, Aug. 18. 2B Cory Spangenberg is playing second base and batting second, and SS Alexi Amarista is starting at shortstop and batting eighth against Atlanta Braves SP Matt Wisler Tuesday.

Fantasy Tip: In a prime spot in the lineup, Spangenberg ($2,600, 5.2% of cap) boasts some upside as a source of cap relief at FantasyScore Tuesday. Amarista ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) and Gyorko ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) can be avoided. With Spangenberg back, there could be some timeshares developing in the infield for the Padres, so continue to check back for updates on who will receive the majority of playing time.

Padres | Alexi Amarista sitting Monday

Mon, 17 Aug 2015 15:31:46 -0700

San Diego Padres SS Alexi Amarista is not in the starting lineup Monday, Aug. 17. 2B Jedd Gyorko will move to shortstop, and 2B Cory Spangenberg will start at the keystone and hit second against Atlanta Braves SP Williams Perez.

Fantasy Tip: Spangenberg ($2,600, 5.2% of cap) just returned from the DL at the end of last week, and he's batting .257 (47-for-183) with two home runs, 11 RBI and seven stolen bases this year. He's a cheap, affordable sleeper play on FantasyScore tonight with an agreeable lineup placement against a hittable pitcher.

Sun, 09 Aug 2015 12:52:16 -0700

San Diego Padres INF Alexi Amarista will lead off and play shortstop against Philadelphia Phillies SP Jerome Williams Sunday, Aug. 9.

Fantasy Tip: Amarista ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) is batting .276 with two doubles, two triples, a home run and five RBIs in 29 at-bats this month. He is hitless in three career at-bats against Williams.

Padres | Will Venable off Monday

Mon, 03 Aug 2015 15:14:39 -0700

San Diego Padres OF Will Venable isn't in the starting lineup Monday, Aug. 3, against the Milwaukee Brewers. OF Melvin Upton Jr. will start in center field and hit eighth in the order, while SS Alexi Amarista will slide into the two-hole in the order against RHP Wily Peralta.

Fantasy Tip: Upton Jr. ($2,900, 5.8% of cap) had his last multi-hit game July 10. While Upton Jr. doesn't offer much cap relief, he represents too much risk on FantasyScore, and he can be avoided by owners.

Padres | Alexi Amarista starting Sunday

Sun, 26 Jul 2015 12:59:40 -0700

San Diego Padres SS Alexi Amarista is batting eighth against Miami Marlins SP Mat Latos Sunday, July 26. SS Clint Barmes is receiving the day off.

Fantasy Tip: Amarista ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) only has five hits in 28 at-bats this month and is 1-for-8 versus Latos in his career. You can find better middle infield options in FantasyScore.

Padres | Yonder Alonso hitting second

Thu, 23 Jul 2015 15:45:50 -0700

San Diego Padres 1B Yonder Alonso is hitting second in the order Thursday, July 23, against the Miami Marlins and RHP Tom Koehler. SS Alexi Amarista will hit eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Alonso ($2,600, 5.2% of cap) is 3-for-9 in his last three games, and he has nine doubles against righties this season. FantasyScore owners can consider Alonso for use in GPP tournaments.

Padres | Will Middlebrooks sitting vs. Giants

Mon, 20 Jul 2015 15:31:37 -0700

San Diego Padres 3B Will Middlebrooks is not in the starting lineup Monday, July 20. SS Alexi Amarista draws into the lineup, and he is playing shortstop and batting second against San Francisco Giants SP Tim Hudson Monday.

Fantasy Tip: Make sure to avoid Middlebrooks ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) in all fantasy formats Monday. Interestingly, he has been receiving starts at shortstop, which could potentially be a huge boon to his fantasy stock if he lands eligibility there. Keep an eye on that situation. Amarista ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) is a low-priced flier for FantasyScore contests Monday, but you'll want to keep your expectations in check. He has a .207/.276/.290 slash line for the season.

Padres | Alexi Amarista in two-hole

Wed, 08 Jul 2015 13:01:58 -0700

San Diego Padres SS Alexi Amarista is hitting second against Pittsburgh Pirates SP Charlie Morton Wednesday, July 8.

Fantasy Tip: Amarista ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) gains some daily value with a move up in the batting order, but he is only hitting .212 (40-for-189) on the season and has just two home runs and 19 RBI. Plus, Morton has been tough on the Padres in the past. Amarista remains a low-end shortstop play.

Padres | Alexi Amarista not in Tuesday lineup

Tue, 16 Jun 2015 12:32:06 -0700

San Diego Padres SS Alexi Amarista is not in the starting lineup Tuesday, June 16, against the Oakland Athletics. SS Clint Barmes is hitting sixth.

Fantasy Tip: It appears Amarista ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) is getting a simple night off. His splits against lefty pitchers and at Petco Park are good (.278, .229) and his home average is 24 points better than on the road. Barmes ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) carries a .385 average in the past week, so he may be worth a low-cost purchase.
