Tampa Bay Rays P Ricky Orta (elbow) could be invited to spring training camp, according to Joe Smith and Marc Topkin of the St. Petersburg Times. He missed the entire 2010 season because of reconstructive elbow ligament surgery.

Greg Johns, of the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, reports the Seattle Mariners optioned 2B Dustin Ackley, P Ricky Orta, P Daniel Cortes, P Anthony Varvaro and P Edward Paredes to Double-A West Tennessee. OF Ezequiel Carrera was optioned to Triple-A Tacoma.

Greg Johns, of the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, reports Seattle Mariners SP Doug Fister will start the team's spring opener against the San Francisco Giants Wednesday, March 3. Ps Kanekoa Texeira, Ricky Orta, David Pauley, Mike Koplove, Jesus Colome and Chris Seddon are also scheduled to pitch in the contest. SP Jason Vargas will start Thursday, March 4, followed by SP Luke French Friday, March 5, SP Ian Snell Saturday, March 6, and SP Ryan Rowland-Smith Sunday, March 7.
