New York Yankees SP Ivan Nova (elbow) will throw live batting practice for the first time since having Tommy John surgery Tuesday, April 14. The Yankees are hoping Nova can return to the rotation in June.
Fantasy Tip: Nova should jump right into the New York rotation when he is ready this summer. However, we caution fantasy owners that Nova could be a work in progress immediately upon his return. Most starters struggle with location and velocity when returning from Tommy John surgery. Still, he should be owned in all AL-only leagues and stashed in a DL slot for now.

New York Yankees SP Ivan Nova (elbow) threw curve balls for the first time off a mound Tuesday, March 17, and said he had mixed results. He is on target to return to the starting rotation by June.
Fantasy Tip: Nova isn't a candidate to be drafted in standard 12-team mixed leagues because he won't be back until around midseason. However, in AL-only leagues, he'll likely come very cheap and is definitely worth stashing, since he'll jump straight into the team's rotation when he's ready.

New York Yankees SP Ivan Nova (elbow) threw off the mound for the third time Tuesday, Feb. 24, since undergoing Tommy John surgery last April, but he was limited to strictly fastballs. Nova is feeling no pain in his right elbow, though.
Fantasy Tip: Nova is too big of a gamble to take in standard 12-team leagues this year as he recovers from TJS. Remember, starting pitchers often have a period of adjustment when they initially return from elbow reconstruction. Keep an eye on him for now. Nova could become a valuable waiver wire acquisition later in the season.

New York Yankees SP Ivan Nova (elbow) has progressed very well from his Tommy John surgery, and he is expected to be ready relatively early in the season.
Fantasy Tip: Fantasy owners would be wise to take a wait-and-see approach with Nova. There is upside, but pitchers usually require an adjustment period when returning from TJS. It is definitely a situation to monitor, though.
