Yankees | Ivan Nova leaves start early

Mon, 27 Jul 2015 22:07:31 -0700

New York Yankees SP Ivan Nova (arm) was lifted early from his start Monday, July 27, against the Texas Rangers due to arm fatigue. Manager Joe Girardi said Nova "was a little bit tired," and the pitcher reported "arm fatigue."

Fantasy Tip: Avoid Nova ($5,300, 10.6% of cap) in FantasyScore until he can officially return and prove his health in a full game without any setbacks.

Yankees | Ivan Nova picked up second win

Wed, 22 Jul 2015 20:35:05 -0700

New York Yankees SP Ivan Nova allowed two earned runs, three hits and three walks with three strikeouts over six innings in a win Wednesday, July 22, against the Baltimore Orioles.

Fantasy Tip: Nova ($5,300; or 10.6% of cap) wasn't particularly sharp, but he benefited from timely hits and decent defense when he needed it most. Still, he has re-emerged as a dependable FantasyScore option.

Yankees | Ivan Nova shines in return

Wed, 24 Jun 2015 14:42:16 -0700

New York Yankees SP Ivan Nova pitched 6 2/3 scoreless innings to beat the Philadelphia Phillies Wednesday, June 24, in his first start this season since returning from Tommy John surgery last year. It was his first start since April 19 of last season, and his fastball reached 95 mph. Nova walked two and struck out one while throwing 51 of his 92 pitches for strikes. He recorded 11 outs on fly outs.

Fantasy Tip: It's a great first step for Nova ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) in his season debut, and his velocity concerns will likely be lessened after he showed good speed on his fastball today. FantasyScore users may seriously want to consider using Nova his next time on the bump, depending on the matchup.

Yankees | Ivan Nova activated

Wed, 24 Jun 2015 08:59:55 -0700

New York Yankees SP Ivan Nova (elbow) was activated from the 60-day disabled list Wednesday, June 24, and will make his season debut against the Philadelphia Phillies. SS Brendan Ryan (rib) was placed on the 15-day disabled list with thoracic outlet syndrome to make room for him.

Fantasy Tip: Give Nova ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) a couple of starts to kick off the Tommy John surgery rust before using him on FantasyScore.

Yankees | Ivan Nova is interleague stud

Tue, 23 Jun 2015 22:42:32 -0700

New York Yankees SP Ivan Nova (elbow) is the probable pitcher for Wednesday, June 24, against the Philadelphia Phillies. He has never faced the Phillies, but he is 5-0 with a 1.17 ERA over his past seven interleague appearances (six starts).

Fantasy Tip: Despite Nova's ($4,200; or 8.4% of cap) solid track record in interleague play, he is making his way back from Tommy John surgery and he will likely have a pitch cap. Wait to see him make it through a few outings without setback before trusting him in FantasyScore again.

Yankees | Ivan Nova concerned with velocity

Tue, 23 Jun 2015 15:14:38 -0700

New York Yankees SP Ivan Nova (elbow) said his velocity might not be up to par for his season debut Wednesday, June 24. Nova said his velocity will be a "process."

Fantasy Tip: Pitchers coming off Tommy John surgery often struggle with lowered velocity out of the gate when they return. Nova ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) could struggle with diminished velocity initially, too, which is a reason to be skeptical of him on FantasyScore. He should be owned in all leagues now, though, and he can really help a fantasy pitching staff in the second half of the season.

Yankees | Ivan Nova returning Wednesday

Mon, 22 Jun 2015 14:49:57 -0700

New York Yankees SP Ivan Nova (elbow) will start against the Philadelphia Phillies Wednesday, June 24. Nova's last big-league start was April 19, 2014.

Fantasy Tip: Nova ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) is worth a flier in deep mixed leagues, but FantasyScore players would be wise to take a wait-and-see approach with him. Nova has shown upside in spurts, but he has a 4.20 ERA, a 4.19 FIP, a 1.31 WHIP and a 6.8 K/9 for his career. Keep your expectations in check in all formats.

Yankees | Ivan Nova to work Friday in SWB

Wed, 17 Jun 2015 22:34:58 -0700

New York Yankees SP Ivan Nova (elbow) is scheduled to start Friday, June 19, for Class AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in what could be his final minor-league rehab start following Tommy John surgery.

Fantasy Tip: FantasyScore players will have another pitcher to choose from soon, but give him a handful of starts to build up his stamina and prove his health before trusting him again.

Yankees | Ivan Nova will make another rehab start

Mon, 15 Jun 2015 16:22:15 -0700

New York Yankees SP Ivan Nova (elbow) will make one more rehab start before returning to the Yankees.

Fantasy Tip: Nova posses plenty of upside, but there is no telling just how consistent he'll be after returning from Tommy John surgery. Also, there may be some early struggles while shaking off the rust. Still, he is worth stashing in the majority of leagues, especially for those in need of pitching help.

Yankees | Ivan Nova close to returning?

Sun, 14 Jun 2015 11:48:30 -0700

New York Yankees manager Joe Girardi said he would sit down with general manager Brian Cashman over the next few days to discuss whether SP Ivan Nova (elbow) is ready to move into the starting rotation. He threw 50 of 73 pitches for strikes in a rehab outing for Class AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Saturday, June 13, and although his velocity was impressive, his curveball was not as sharp as it has been in the past.

Fantasy Tip: Nova could move into the rotation as soon as Friday, June 19, against the Detroit Tigers, if the team decides against using SP Adam Warren on regular rest. Nova should be stashed in AL-only leagues but can remain on the waiver wire in mixed formats.
