He threw 15 pitches in an intrasquad game in the Dominican Republic recently, and his fastball was hitting 91-96 mph. He was even throwing all five of his pitches. "There are no issues mentally. It's not even something we are discussing anymore. He will enter camp and have a leg up based on what he did last year," general manager Dan O'Dowd said. "The only thing he can't do is distance running, but he can still jog and do more work on the treadmill."

He will not pitch in winter ball, but he will throw some simulated games in the Dominican Republic this offseason. Nicasio has a permanent metal plate in his neck, but the team is optimistic that he will make a full recovery.

He plans on playing catch in the Arizona instructional league and hopes to pitch in the Dominican this winter. "I am moving it more and more from side to side. It's getting stronger," Nicasio said. "I believe I will be able to get off a mound (in the Dominican)."
