Colorado Rockies SP Juan Nicasio (leg) struck out seven and gave up just one run on two hits in 4 2/3 innings. But he also walked five, uncorked two wild pitches and needed 106 pitches. Part of the problem came from Nicasio getting struck by a line drive off the bat of Arizona Diamondbacks SS Willie Bloomquist in the first inning. As the game went on his leg stiffened up. "I couldn't push off well and it made it hard to throw my breaking ball," Nicasio said.

Colorado Rockies SP Juan Nicasio was rocked for six runs on eight hits, including a three-run home run by Atlanta Braves 1B Freddie Freeman in the third inning, as the Rockies lost 7-2 on Sunday, May 6. Nicasio "got some balls up today, and he threw a bad changeup to Freddie Freeman and that got the ball rolling in the wrong direction," manager Jim Tracy said.

Colorado Rockies SP Juan Nicasio, who will be in the starting rotation, is still working to perfect his slider this spring. "I want to throw the slider with better downward movement … I want it to fall out of the strike zone and surprise batters," Nicasio said. He has struck out 15 hitters and walked just two in 17 2/3 Cactus League innings while touching 97 mph on the radar gun.

Colorado Rockies SP Juan Nicasio fixed a flaw in the middle of his outing that was pointed out by C Ramon Hernandez. Nicasio went on to cruise through his last two innings. "Ramon said, 'Your (front) shoulder is moving too quick; stay closed and your slider will be better,'" Nicasio said.
