Colorado Rockies SP Juan Nicasio will start against the San Francisco Giants Sunday, May 19. He had been originally scheduled to start Saturday, May 18, but SP Tyler Chatwood will pitch instead.

Rockies | Juan Nicasio hit hard after solid first inning

Colorado Rockies SP Juan Nicasio struck out Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OF Mike Trout and 1B Albert Pujols in the first inning Saturday, March 9, but Nicasio fell apart after that. He was stung for seven hits in 3 2/3 innings, allowing four earned runs.

Rockies | Two fifth starter competitors to pitch Sunday

Colorado Rockies SP Jeff Francis will start the Cactus League game Sunday, Feb. 24, against the Arizona Diamondbacks, with SP Juan Nicasio following him. The two are among four candidates vying for the fifth starter spot in the rotation.

Colorado Rockies SP Juan Nicasio (knee) is fully healed and has been able to do more running now that his neck is healthy. He's also down from 248 pounds to 238 pounds.

Rockies | Two starters won't pitch in winter ball

Colorado Rockies SP's Jorge De La Rosa and Juan Nicasio will not pitch winter ball, according to team executives. The club wants them to work out in controlled environments before spring training due to injury histories.

Colorado Rockies SPs Jhoulys Chacin, Jorge De La Rosa and Juan Nicasio will all report to the instructional league. Nicasio will head there Monday, Oct. 1, and the other two when the regular season is completed.

Colorado Rockies SP Juan Nicasio (knee) isn't wearing a brace on his left knee, and he has started throwing side sessions, which will continue in the instructional league. Nicasio plans to start five or six games in the Dominican Republic Winter League, too.

Rockies | Plan to stick with four-man rotation next year

The Colorado Rockies will continue to use a form of the four-man rotation next season, according to general manager Dan O'Dowd. Four starters would be on a 75-pitch count and four "hybrid" pitchers would be on roster that would be trained starters limited to 50 pitches. SPs Jorge De La Rosa, Jhoulys Chacin, Jeff Francis and Drew Pomeranz could be the four starters next year, followed by Ps Tyler Chatwood, Alex White, Juan Nicasio and Christian Friedrich as the piggyback pitchers. The Rockies have pitched better this year since making the change; before the switch the starters were 13-20 with a 6.28 ERA and after the switch they are 11-26 with a 5.61 ERA in 64 games.
