Athletics | Jordan Norberto picks up save

Oakland Athletics RP Jordan Norberto earned his first major league save against the Boston Red Sox Tuesday, May 1, after cleaning up for RP Grant Balfour with two men on base in the ninth. RP Ryan Cook hasn't allowed a run in 10 outings this year, and he's given up just one hit. Balfour has blown his two saves in his last four appearances, and the emergence of Cook and Norberto will make it easier for the team to trade Balfour this summer. However, manager Bob Melvin said nothing has changed as far as roles in the bullpen after Balfour's letdown.

The Oakland Athletics are going to give SP Jordan Norberto every chance to break camp with the club this year as a reliever. "With his stuff and the amount of starters we have, if he's going to make an impact, it's going to be in the bullpen," manager Bob Melvin said. "It's up to him to be able to go out there and calm down a little bit, think a little bit slower."

Oakland Athletics manager Bob Melvin expects RP Fautino De Los Santos to have a larger role in the backend of the bullpen this year. De Los Santos needs to develop his slider, cut down on the walks and hold runners on base better. RP Jordan Norberto could win a spot in the bullpen this spring as well.
