Last season, he arrived at camp already in game-shape when spring training began, putting in bullpen session before the team's early pitching camp last February. He also made 13 appearances in spring training, and then appeared 51 times before the All-Star break. However, by the time September rolled around, Venters struggled, perhaps due to the workload. He had a 5.64 ERA with the opposition hitting .278 against him over his final 15 appearances.
