Atlanta Braves RP Jonny Venters (elbow) will undergo his second Tommy John surgery of his career and will miss the rest of the year. He underwent the elbow reconstruction to fix the ulnar collateral ligament in his left elbow Thursday, May 16.

Fantasy Tip: Venters was used heavily out of the Braves' 'pen the last few seasons, and it has caught up to him. Craig Kimbrel is the unquestioned closer on this team, but Eric O'Flaherty and Jordan Walden will have bigger roles as setup men as a result.

Fantasy Tip: Venters has had more discomfort while trying to throw, and his meeting with Andrews seems ominous. Tommy John surgery could be in Venters' future, which would end his season.

Atlanta Braves RP Jonny Venters (elbow) was still sore but threw 15 pitches off a mound Friday, May 10, and said the ball was coming out of his hand great.

Atlanta Braves RP Jonny Venters (elbow) shut down his throwing session Thursday, May 9, because of more soreness in his elbow. It was Venters' first time attempting to throw off a mound since he received an injection in his elbow.

Fantasy Tip: Not a good sign for Venters. He's been heavily used out of the bullpen the last two seasons for the Bravos, and all those innings have finally taken a toll on his arm. At this point, surgery might become an option for the lefty.

Atlanta Braves RP Jonny Venters (elbow) will throw off a mound Thursday, May 9, for the first time since leaving a spring training game with pain in his elbow March 26. Venters had a platelet-rich plasma injection and was told to rest for four weeks.

Fantasy Tip: This is encouraging news for Venters and the team, but he probably still has plenty of ways to go before he'll be a realistic option at the back end of the bullpen again. If he's healthy, Venters has some value in deep NL-only leagues because of his skills against left-handed batters.

Atlanta Braves RP Jonny Venters (elbow) is set to resume throwing Tuesday, April 30, four weeks after he was shut down after receiving a platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injection in his left elbow.

Fantasy Tip: Venters is hopeful of returning some point in mid-May, but the team hasn't given an exact timetable. When healthy, Venters can be especially useful in fantasy leagues which reward holds. He is also a solid option in rotisserie formats for help in the ERA and WHIP categories.

Atlanta Braves general manager Frank Wren said the team is hopeful that RP Jonny Venters (elbow) is only dealing with inflammation in his left elbow after his MRI exam was inconclusive. The team has no timetable for his return from the 15-day disabled list. "We're just optimistic that the four weeks will get it calmed down and get him back throwing," Wren said. Dr. James Andrews did other tests on Venters that has them optimistic that he won't need another Tommy John surgery.

Atlanta Braves RP Jonny Venters (elbow) has been shut down for four weeks after Dr. James Andrews injected him with platelet-rich plasma Tuesday, April 2.

Fantasy Tip: This doesn't guarantee that Venters won't eventually have to go the surgical route eventually. If the injections work, though, he'll have to resume his throwing program and build up strength in his arm four weeks from now. Don't expect Venters to be ready to return to action until probably sometime in late May or early June.

Atlanta Braves RP Jonny Venters (elbow) was placed on the 15-day disabled list Sunday, March 31, due to a sprained left elbow. The move is retroactive to March 22. Venters is scheduled to meet with renowned Dr. James Andrews Monday, April 1.
