Texas Rangers P Neal Cotts worked Wednesday, March 28, and he threw a scoreless inning in a minor-league game. It was his first time working in back-to-back situations this spring. He has not allowed a run over his past four appearances. He is competing for a spot in the bullpen with Ps Michael Kirkman and Robbie Ross.

Texas Rangers RP Michael Kirkman allowed four runs - three earned - over 1 1/3 innings in a spring appearance Sunday, March 25. His spring ERA rose to 7.00 in nine innings. "He's had some good days out there and then he's had not so good days," manager Ron Washington said.

Texas Rangers OF Julio Borbon and RP Michael Kirkman are both stating their cases to make the opening day roster this spring. Borbon is 4-for-11 in his first six Cactus League appearances. OF Leonys Martin, who is competing for the center field job with Borbon, is expected to begin with Triple-A Round Rock. Kirkman has given up nine hits while walking just one hitter in five spring innings. He is competing with RPs Mitch Stetter, Joe Beimel and Neal Cotts for a bullpen job.

Texas Rangers RPs Michael Kirkman, Joe Beimel, Mitch Stetter, Martin Perez, Robbie Ross, Ben Snyder, Kelvin De La Cruz and Miguel De Los Santos are all in competition to become the team's left-handed specialist out of the bullpen, with Kirkman, Beimel and Stetter the favorites based on their experience. Perez is a wild card and one of the team's top pitching prospects.

The Texas Rangers signed SP Neftali Feliz, SP Derek Holland, RP Alexi Ogando, SP Martin Perez, OF Engel Beltre, OF Julio Borbon, P Michael Kirkman, P Jake Brigham, P Miguel De Los Santos, P Wilmer Font, P Roman Mendez and P Justin Miller to one-year deals. Holland will make $504,700. Feliz will make $502,000. All others are under $500,000.

The Texas Rangers will have their young, upper-level pitchers come to Arlington from Jan. 17-20 for a pitching mini-camp, as it returns from a one-year hiatus. Special assistant Greg Maddux will also be in attendance, as will the team's coaching staff, including manager Ron Washington and pitching coach Mike Maddux. SP Neftali Feliz and RP Alexi Ogando highlight the list of pitchers, which also include SP Jake Brigham, P Miguel De Los Santos, P Wilmer Font, P Justin Grimm, RP Mark Hamburger, P Michael Kirkman, P Roman Mendez, RP Justin Miller, SP Martin Perez, SP Neil Ramirez, P Robbie Ross, RP Tanner Scheppers and P Matt West.
