The Milwaukee Brewers optioned P Amaury Rivas to Triple-A Nashville Sunday, March 13, reports Michael Hunt, of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. In other moves, Ps Dan Merklinger and Cody Scarpetta were also optioned to Double-A Huntsville, while C Anderson Delarosa and Ps Robert Hinton and Roque Mercedes were returned to the minor league camp.

Updating previous reports, Milwaukee Brewers SP Zack Greinke (rib cage) has a small fracture of his seventh rib and a bone bruise on his eighth rib, according to MLB.com's Adam McCalvy. The normal recovery time for bone injuries is four to six weeks, but Greinke has already been healing for two weeks. Regardless, his recovery will extend into April. "We're not talking about this gross deformed fracture," said head Dr. William Raasch. "We're talking about something very subtle that we can barely see, and we found it on the MRI. We're not that concerned about it, except the fact that it's bad timing. He's got a sore rib because he fell on it, and unfortunately you stress your ribs when you throw baseballs hard." Ps Manny Parra (back), Mark Rogers (shoulder), Amaury Rivas (tooth), Tim Dillard and Wily Peralta are all candidates to fill in while Greinke is out.

Milwaukee Brewers general manager Doug Melvin said the team is likely to fill SP Zack Greinke's (rib cage) spot in the rotation early in the season from within the organization, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel's Tom Haudricourt. RP Kameron Loe will remain in the bullpen. The team may alternate using Ps Wily Peralta, Amaury Rivas and Mark Rogers (back, shoulder), giving them one start each, then sending them back to the minors. Rogers has been dealing with back and shoulder problems this spring.
