Fantasy Tip: It's safe to say Takahashi is far away from being in consideration to enter the team's saves picture anytime soon if they were willing to risk him to waivers. He can be dropped in all leagues.
Tue, 16 Apr 2013 14:19:26 -0700 Chicago Cubs manager Dale Sveum said the bullpen picture is the same after they cut RP Hisanori Takahashi Tuesday, April 16, and added RPs Kevin Gregg and Kameron Loe to the roster. Sveum will continue to mix and match in the final innings. Fantasy Tip: For now, Shawn Camp and James Russell are the options to close games in the ninth, depending on matchups. Neither are solid fantasy baseball options, but if you're desperate, you should take a chance. Carlos Marmol could eventually work his way into the picture, too.
Tue, 16 Apr 2013 13:43:14 -0700 The Chicago Cubs claimed 3B Cody Ransom off waivers from the San Diego Padres Tuesday, April 16, and designated RP Hisanori Takahashi and INF/OF Brent Lillibridge for assignment to make room for RPs Kevin Gregg and Kameron Loe. Fantasy Tip: The Cubs bullpen is now basically down to three closing options after Takahashi was cut: Shawn Camp, James Russell and Carlos Marmol. Right now, Dale Sveum is using some sort of committee between Camp and Russell, but it's conceivable that Marmol could earn the job back if he performs well in less stressful situation. Grab Marmol if you're desperate and willing to live with what could be another roller coaster ride if he pitches in the ninth again.
Thu, 04 Apr 2013 15:52:26 -0700 Chicago Cubs manager Dale Sveum commented on his willingness to stick with RP Carlos Marmol as the team's closer after two shaky outings to begin this season. "I went with it three months last year and he got out of all (the jams)," Sveum, said. "It wasn't like he was pitch efficient last year when he was getting out of all of them." Sveum had already used his three setup men before the ninth Thursday, April 4, but he noted that Marmol didn't throw bad in the outing. RP Hisanori Takahashi was warming up when Marmol was teetering. "I was leaving (Marmol) in until he gave it up," Sveum said. Fantasy Tip: Sveum continues to back Marmol, but there is no denying that Marmol is on extremely shaky ground. If he were to blow his next save opp, it wouldn't be a surprise to see Sveum change some things up.
