Padres | Jon Jay will not start

Sun, 17 Apr 2016 11:52:35 -0700

San Diego Padres OF Jon Jay is not in the starting lineup against Arizona Diamondbacks SP Patrick Corbin Sunday, April 17. Melton Upton Jr. will start in center field and is batting fourth, while OF Jabari Blash will start in left field and is batting sixth.

Fantasy Tip: Blash has received limited playing time this season and has gone 2-for-12 at the plate. Owners in most leagues should be able to find better candidates to use in their starting lineups.

Padres | Jon Jay continues to play

Sat, 09 Apr 2016 15:39:21 -0700

San Diego Padres OF Jon Jay is leading off Saturday, April 9, against left-handed Colorado Rockies SP Jorge De La Rosa. OF Melvin Upton Jr. is hitting second.

Fantasy Tip: Jay has led off all of the Padres' games, and three have come against lefties. He's an NL-only option that could surprise some folks. Upton hit .197 against lefties the last three years and isn't much of a fantasy consideration anymore.

Padres | Jon Jay to hit leadoff

Tue, 29 Mar 2016 16:48:51 -0700

San Diego Padres OF Jon Jay will hit leadoff for the Padres on opening day, according to manager Andy Green.

Fantasy Tip: Jay's fantasy value is extremely minimal in mixed leagues, as he isn't likely to provide help in batting average and won't supply much pop in a weak San Diego lineup. Daily gamers will want to avoid against Los Angeles Dodgers starter Clayton Kershaw next Monday, too.

Padres | Jon Jay, Spangenberg leadoff options

Wed, 24 Feb 2016 10:33:35 -0800

San Diego Padres OF Jon Jay and 2B Cory Spangenberg are two potential options to hit leadoff this year, according to manager Andy Green.

Fantasy Tip: Spangengerg probably profiles better here and is more attractive in deep mixed and NL-only leagues for his wheels. Jay isn't a guarantee anymore to hit for a healthy average, and he has plenty of injury concerns.

Padres | Jon Jay could start in San Diego

Tue, 08 Dec 2015 16:33:15 -0800

San Diego Padres OF Jon Jay could end up starting in center field for the Padres, as general manager A.J. Preller stated he doesn't see his new trade acquisition as being simply a platoon fit or left fielder.

Fantasy Tip: Jay will certainly have a solid chance at securing the center field job, needing only to fend off the likes of Melvin Upton Jr. and Travis Jankowski, both of whom provided lackluster numbers for the Padres last season. So, too, did Jay, although he was also dealing with a wrist injury. He should be fully healthy in 2016, though, and if he does become the everyday centerfielder in San Diego, the former Cardinal will be a fine sleeper candidate in the upcoming season.

Padres | Jon Jay headed to San Diego

Tue, 08 Dec 2015 07:37:45 -0800

St. Louis Cardinals OF Jon Jay was acquired by the San Diego Padres in exchange for 2B/SS Jedd Gyorko Tuesday, Dec. 8.

Fantasy Tip: Jay's 2015 was a wash because of a wrist injury, but he figures to play quite a bit in San Dawg. The spacious gaps could help him return to being a .300 hitter, but he's more of an NL-only option than in mixed leagues.

Mariners | Seattle wants athletic OF

Wed, 11 Nov 2015 10:13:33 -0800

The Seattle Mariners may be inclined to trade for the likes of New York Yankees OF Brett Gardner, St. Louis Cardinals OFs Jon Jay or Peter Bourjos, Texas Rangers OF Leonys Martin or Boston Red Sox OF Jackie Bradley Jr. rather than sign impending free-agent OFs Dexter Fowler (Cubs), Austin Jackson (Cubs) or Denard Span (Nationals).

Fantasy Tip: Gardner is likely Seattle's top trade target and is the biggest fantasy name of the bunch. A move to pitcher-friendly Safeco Field would turn many off to Gardner, but that could make him a better value pick in 2016 fantasy drafts for his speed.

Cardinals | Two Cards outfielders sitting

Sat, 03 Oct 2015 15:16:35 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Randal Grichuk and OF Stephen Piscotty (head) are out of the lineup Saturday, Oct. 3, with OF Jon Jay hitting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Jay ($2,300, 4.6% of cap) has struggled with wrist injuries all year and isn't a good play on FantasyScore against Shelby Miller.

Cardinals | Stephen Piscotty remains out

Wed, 30 Sep 2015 14:38:45 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Stephen Piscotty (head) remains out of the lineup for Game 2 of the doubleheader against the Pittsburgh Pirates Wednesday, Sept. 30. OF Jon Jay starts in center field again and is hitting second against Pirates SP Charlie Morton.

Fantasy Tip: Jay ($2,300, 4.6% of cap) hasn't done much this year or this month and has been hurt mainly by injuries. He's a much better defensive player than he is with the stick, so consider him a low-end outfield play on FantasyScore.

Cardinals | Stephen Piscotty sits

Wed, 30 Sep 2015 08:11:51 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Stephen Piscotty (head) is out of the lineup for Game 1 of a doubleheader Wednesday, Sept. 30, with OF Jon Jay hitting second.

Fantasy Tip: Jay ($2,300, 4.6% of cap) is 3-for-9 (.333) against Gerrit Cole. However, Jay is a singles hitter facing an absolute horse today. He's not a great option on FantasyScore.
