Cardinals | Jon Jay could rehab Friday

Fri, 28 Aug 2015 09:34:31 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Jon Jay (wrist) could begin a rehab assignment Friday, Aug. 28, at Class AAA Memphis.

Fantasy Tip: Jay ($2,300, 4.6% of cap) would likely see the bulk of the playing time in center upon returning. Keep an eye on him for NL-only usage and for a low-end FantasyScore flyer.

Cardinals | Jon Jay nearing rehab assignment

Tue, 25 Aug 2015 15:22:46 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Jon Jay (wrist) took batting practice on the field for the first time Monday, Aug. 24, since being put on the disabled list with a left wrist stress fracture. He wore a sleeve on his wrist and is preparing to go on a minor league rehab assignment, possibly as early as later this week. He's expected to play in more than three rehab games this time around.

Fantasy Tip: Jay ($2,300, 4.6% of cap) still has a bit of a ways to go before he's ready to come off the DL for the Cardinals, and once he's ready, don't expect him to see everyday playing time, even with Matt Holliday and Randal Grichuk sidelined. Jay is an outfield depth piece, at best, in NL-only leagues, and he'll be a deep sleeper pick on FantasyScore when he's back.

Cardinals | Jon Jay to travel with Cards

Wed, 19 Aug 2015 17:32:59 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Jon Jay (wrist) is expected to travel with the club on their road trip to the West Coast so that his rehab can be closely monitored. He resumed taking batting practice recently and has been able to take more swings and throw with more intensity as his wrist has strengthened.

Fantasy Tip: Jay ($2,300, 4.6% of cap) will be sent on a minor league rehab assignment before he is activated from the disabled list. There is no timetable for his return, however.

Cardinals | Jon Jay nears baseball activity

Mon, 17 Aug 2015 19:02:28 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Jon Jay (wrist) is nearly ready to resume baseball activities, and the team is ready to assess his rehab plan. He had a series of tests Monday, Aug. 17, to determine if his wrist is gaining strength. He has started to swing in the batting cage, too.

Fantasy Tip: Jay would be a welcome addition to the outfield, as the team just lost Randal Grichuk to the 15-day disabled list Monday, and Jason Heyward left the game Monday night.

Cardinals | Jon Jay still a couple weeks away

Wed, 12 Aug 2015 13:28:50 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Jon Jay (wrist) is "at a minimum a couple weeks away" from a potential return, according to general manager John Mozeliak. Jay has resumed swinging off a tee and will soon progress to hitting soft-toss pitches and then taking batting practice.

Fantasy Tip: Jay ($2,300, 4.6% of cap) will join a crowded outfield, and it is unclear how many at-bats he'll receive when healthy. Still, he has a career .356 on-base percentage and has been a key component in the lineup in the past, so he should see some playing time. He doesn't push the needle in the majority of seasonal leagues, though.

Cardinals | Jon Jay gaining strength

Fri, 17 Jul 2015 15:49:12 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Jon Jay (wrist) is gaining strength during his rehab, according to manager Mike Matheny. However, Matheny said the team doesn't have a timetable on his return.

Fantasy Tip: Jay ($2,300, 4.6% of cap), who is hitting just .223 (37-for-166) with a home run and 10 RBI on the year, is unlikely to have anything more than a bench or pinch-hitting role upon his return now that Matt Holliday (quadriceps) is back from the DL. Only own Jay in deeper NL-only formats.

Cardinals | Jon Jay placed on the disabled list

Thu, 02 Jul 2015 13:09:51 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Jon Jay (wrist) was placed on the disabled list Thursday, July 2, with a stress fracture and bone bruise on his left wrist.

Fantasy Tip: Peter Bourjos ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) projects to grab the majority of starts with Jay and Matt Holliday both out. In the short term, Bourjos has fleeting value in cavernous mixed and NL-only leagues, and those in need of speed, could take a speculative flier on him in deep mixed leagues, too.

Cardinals | Peter Bourjos at leadoff

Tue, 30 Jun 2015 15:19:07 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Peter Bourjos is starting in center field and hitting leadoff against Chicago White Sox SP Chris Sale Tuesday, June 30. OF Jon Jay is on the bench against the left-handed hurler.

Fantasy Tip: Bourjos ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) will benefit from more at-bats in the leadoff spot. Unfortunately, he only has six hits in 27 at-bats in June and is mainly useful for daily gamers because of his speed. He's also only hitting .237 (9-for-38) against left-handers this season, and Sale is among one of the toughest he'll face.

Cardinals | Peter Bourjos starting against Phillies

Sat, 20 Jun 2015 13:08:47 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Peter Bourjos is starting in center field and batting eighth in the order Saturday, June 20, against the Philadelphia Phillies and RHP Phillippe Aumont. OF Jon Jay comes out of the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Bourjos ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) had gone 1-for-3 with a double in back-to-back games before being held hitless Thursday, June 18. Bourjos is hitting .261 against right-handed pitching this season, but he doesn't have much of an upside on FantasyScore. Owners can do better in this price range.

Cardinals | Jon Jay makes start vs. Royals

Fri, 12 Jun 2015 14:44:20 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Jon Jay is starting in center field and hitting eighth against Kansas City Royals SP Yordano Ventura Friday, June 12.

Fantasy Tip: Jay ($2,300, 4.6% of cap) only has one home run total this year and is pretty boring when it comes to daily gaming. A spot at the bottom of the order also doesn't make him any more attractive at FantasyScore.
