Cardinals | Jon Jay takes some swings

Tue, 19 May 2015 20:46:28 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Jon Jay (wrist) took some swings indoors Tuesday, May 19, and also made some throws of the field.

Fantasy Tip: Jay ($2,300, 4.6% of cap) is currently on the 15-day disabled list and likely will need to play in some rehab games before he can return. Peter Bourjos ($2,300, 4.6% of cap) has been filling in for Jay but is not a great option on FantasyScore.

Cardinals | Jon Jay to DL

Thu, 14 May 2015 07:07:57 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Jon Jay (wrist) was placed on the 15-day disabled list with left wrist tendonitis Thursday, May 14. OF/1B Xavier Scruggs was recalled from Triple-A Memphis.

Fantasy Tip: Peter Bourjos ($1,900, 3.8% of your cap) will continue to see regular playing time and is a matchup play. Scruggs has no FantasyScore appeal.

Cardinals | Jon Jay could land on DL

Thu, 14 May 2015 06:27:21 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Jon Jay (thumb) could land on the 15-day disabled list with the team having a thin bench, which requires an added bat.

Fantasy Tip: Peter Bourjos ($1,900, 3.8% of your cap) has filled in but doesn't have a lot of FantasyScore viability. Randal Grichuk ($1,900, 3.8%) has a lot of power and could be a factor once he returns from a back injury.

Cardinals | Jon Jay still out

Wed, 13 May 2015 11:08:26 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Jon Jay (thumb) remains out of the starting lineup Wednesday, May 13. OF Peter Bourjos is starting in center field again and hitting ninth in the batting order against Cleveland Indians SP Corey Kluber.

Fantasy Tip: Bourjos ($1,900, 3.8% of cap) isn't a strong play at FantasyScore this evening while facing the reigning Cy Young winner in the American League. Kluber has had a rough go of it to start the year, but he's still striking out hitters at an elite level and isn't walking many.

Cardinals | Jon Jay's injury related to surgery

Tue, 12 May 2015 15:30:34 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Jon Jay's (thumb) injury is related to the wrist surgery he had in the offseason, according to manager Mike Matheny. Jay is dealing with soreness and a deep bruise in his left thumb. Matheny said Jay's wrist is healthy, but he's been overcompensating, which caused pain in the thumb. Matheny said Jay is expected to be available to play Tuesday, May 12, even though he's not in the starting lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Jay ($2,300, 4.6% of cap) is hitting just .248 (25-for-101) with no home runs and six RBI while battling through his wrist and hand problems, and it's likely that he'll continue to split playing time in center field with Peter Bourjos ($1,900, 3.8% of cap). It's hard not to like Bourjos as a value play at FantasyScore, even if he's hitting near the bottom of the lineup, and continues to see more consistent playing time with Jay hurting.

Cardinals | Jon Jay remains out Tuesday

Tue, 12 May 2015 11:36:47 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Jon Jay (thumb) is not in the starting lineup Tuesday, May 12. OF Peter Bourjos is starting in center field again and hitting ninth in the batting order against Cleveland Indians SP Carlos Carrasco.

Fantasy Tip: Bourjos ($1,900, 3.8% of cap) has been playing well of late as he's split time in center field with Jay. However, a move to the bottom of the order will limit his plate appearances and ceiling at FantasyScore tonight. He could still be looked at as a sleeper outfield play, though.

Cardinals | Jon Jay a game-time call Tuesday

Tue, 12 May 2015 10:59:02 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Jon Jay (thumb) will be a game-time decision Tuesday, May 12. He was able to swing a bat without discomfort Sunday, May 10.

Fantasy Tip: Jay ($2,300, 4.6% of your cap) doesn't provide the fantasy punch to risk it on FantasyScore, especially with a thumb injury that can hinder a swing. Peter Bourjos ($1,900, 3.8% of your cap) would likely fill in, and he's hitting .375 the last week. However, he has just four steals in seven attempts, which trumps his value a bit. He's a low-end OF flyer.

Cardinals | Jon Jay in leadoff spot

Sat, 09 May 2015 13:19:20 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Jon Jay is back in the lineup Saturday, May 9, and will hit out of the leadoff spot against the Pittsburgh Pirates and right-handed pitcher Vance Worley.

Fantasy Tip: Jay ($2,300, 4.6% of cap) isn't a common FantasyScore option, but his highest value comes against righties, again which Jay is a career .295-hitter. Jay has yet to hit a home run or steal a base this year, thus limiting his potential. Batting at the top of the order certainly boosts his value as he has the potential for more runs scored, and he should be considered as a low-ceiling, value play on FantasyScore.

Cardinals | Peter Bourjos leading off again

Fri, 08 May 2015 14:01:41 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Peter Bourjos is starting in center field and hitting leadoff again Friday, May 8, against Pittsburgh Pirates SP Francisco Liriano. OF Jon Jay will start on the bench.

Fantasy Tip: Bourjos ($1,900, 3.8% of cap) has been seeing more time in center and in the leadoff spot, and it looks like he's entered into a platoon there with Jay, even though Jay has been very adequate against lefties in his career. Bourjos has seven hits in 23 at-bats in his career against Liriano, and he's hitting .345 (10-for-29) with four stolen bases this year. For the price, it's hard not to like Bourjos in a leadoff spot.

Cardinals | Jon Jay hitting leadoff

Tue, 28 Apr 2015 13:50:04 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Jon Jay is hitting in the leadoff spot Tuesday, April 28, against the Philadelphia Phillies. 3B Matt Carpenter, who traditionally has hit first, is now second.

Fantasy Tip: Jay ($2,300, 4.6% of cap) has a .233 batting average and isn't much of a base-stealer, but the Cardinals have a two-game losing streak so this might be a lineup shakeup. Jay doesn't hit for much average or power so you may want to look for better options.
