In 100 plate appearances hitting second during his time with the Minnesota Twins, Kubel had a .344 average and .967 OPS. "I've done it a few times in front of (Joe) Mauer and did pretty well," Kubel said. "It worked out for the week or two weeks that we did it."

OF Jason Kubel was signed to play left and will likely take time from Parra in that spot. When asked how he expects playing time to shake out with Kubel on board, manager Kirk Gibson said he "can't answer" the question. However, he intimated that he wants Parra to find his way into the lineup more often in center field. "I'd like to see him work on center field and be able to play all the positions," Gibson said. "He's very good on each corner. He isn't as good as we think he can be in center field."

First base coach Eric Young, third base coach Matt Williams, bench coach Alan Trammell, bullpen coach Glenn Sherlock and pitching coach Charles Nagy had their contracts extended through the 2013 season. Hitting coach Don Baylor has not yet received an extension because he is managing a winter ball team in Venezuela and the Diamondbacks have been unable to contact him. However, general manager Kevin Towers said the team will extend Baylor's contract as soon as possible.
