The Houston Astros placed SS Marwin Gonzalez on the paternity list and placed SP Kyle Weiland (shoulder) on the 15-day disabled list. P Fernando Abad and SS Brian Bixler were recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City.

The Houston Astros finalized their opening day roster by keeping RPs Wesley Wright and Fernando Abad and OF Travis Buck. RP Henry Sosa was outrighted to Triple-A Oklahoma City, and OF Justin Ruggiano will also remain in the minors.

Houston Astros RPs Fernando Abad and Wesley Wright are the only two left-handed bullpen candidates remaining in camp after the release of P Zach Duke Tuesday, March 27. Manager Bradley Mills said he would like to keep two lefties in the bullpen if possible, so both might make the opening day roster.

Houston Astros RP Sergio Escalona (elbow) threw a third of an inning Thursday, March 22, after encountering a setback with his left elbow. He will be re-examined. Ps Wesley Wright, Fernando Abad and Zach Duke are competing for a roster spot alongside Escalona.

Houston Astros general manager Jeff Luhnow said the team has signed OF Brian Bogusevic, C Jason Castro, INFs Chris D. Johnson and Brett Wallace and Ps Fernando Abad, Paul Clemens and Fernando Rodriguez to one-year contracts.

Houston Astros RP Fernando Abad, who was recalled Wednesday, June 15, comes back to the team with a new arm slot he learned at Triple-A Oklahoma City. Abad lowered his arm slot at Class AAA and help opponents to a .196 batting average and struck out 16 hitters in 12 2/3 innings.

The Houston Astros placed RP Brandon Lyon (biceps) on the 15-day disabled list with right biceps tendonitis Wednesday, June 15, and recalled RP Fernando Abad from Triple-A Oklahoma City in a corresponding move. Lyon allowed a home run in each of his three outings since coming off the DL June 9. He will likely undergo an MRI exam soon to see if this injury was related to his previous one.
