Thu, 28 Feb 2013 15:24:25 -0800 The Washington Nationals have been impressed with RP Fernando Abad so far in camp. "I was really impressed with the way he threw the other day," manager Davey Johnson said. "The way he attacked the hitters (Wednesday), he threw a couple good curveballs. That was great. (Pitching coach Steve McCatty) wanted him to throw another inning. I said, 'No. I want to see that again the day after tomorrow.'" The Nats have only one other left-hander penciled into their bullpen (RP Zach Duke). Abad said his poor 2012 season was attributed to arm fatigue, and he built his endurance by running long distances in the offseason. Also, his arm slot was too far from his body a year ago, which led to him flying open when he threw. He worked this winter to stay closed and hold his arms higher, and the results so far this spring are encouraging - no hits, two strikeouts and two walks.
