Manager Don Mattingly said it's important for Guerra to rebuild his confidence in situations where the fate of the game isn't solely in his hands. "I told him I'm going to use him just like a closer, to stop this thing and give us a chance to win," said Mattingly.

Manager Don Mattingly wants to ease Guerra back into the late innings so that he can regain some confidence. RP Josh Lindblom is the most likely candidate for setup duties in the meantime. "I will use Javy all over," Mattingly said. "We're going to try to get (his confidence) back as much as anything else because he is going to be a valuable guy. We are going to need big outs from all our guys no matter how you define their roles."
