Reds | Zack Cozart not in Saturday's lineup

Sat, 21 May 2016 10:32:17 -0700

Cincinnati Reds SS Zack Cozart is not in the starting lineup against Seattle Mariners SP Felix Hernandez Saturday, May 21. INF Ivan De Jesus will play shortstop and bat seventh.

Fantasy Tip: De Jesus is hitting just .167 with a home run and five RBI in 48 at-bats this year and isn't a recommended fantasy option this afternoon, especially with King Felix penciled in as the opposing pitcher.

Reds | Zack Cozart out of lineup Sunday

Sun, 15 May 2016 08:37:57 -0700

Cincinnati Reds SS Zack Cozart is not in the starting lineup against Philadelphia Phillies SP Adam Morgan Sunday, May 15. INF Ivan De Jesus will play shortstop and bat seventh, while OF Tyler Holt will play center field and serve as the leadoff hitter.

Fantasy Tip: De Jesus is just 6-for-42 at the plate and is not a recommended fantasy option. Holt is 3-for-10 versus left-handed pitching and is hitting .385 on the road this year, so he has a very favorable matchup this afternoon.

Reds | Four CIN regulars resting Sunday

Sun, 08 May 2016 08:11:50 -0700

Cincinnati Reds OF Billy Hamilton, 3B Eugenio Suarez, SS Zack Cozart and C Tucker Barnhart are out of the starting lineup against Milwaukee Brewers SP Junior Guerra Sunday, May 8. OF Tyler Holt will lead off and play center field, INF Ivan De Jesus will bat second and play shortstop, INF Jordan Pacheco will play third base and bat seventh and C Ramon Cabrera will bat eighth and start behind the plate.

Fantasy Tip: Each of the four players filling in for the regulars who are resting should be viewed as nothing more than sources of desperation cap relief in daily fantasy contests.

Reds | Zack Cozart back with a bang

Wed, 04 May 2016 16:04:41 -0700

Cincinnati Reds SS Zack Cozart (knee) hit his third home run of the season in his return to the lineup Wednesday, May 4. Cozart had been dealing with tendonitis in his surgically repaired right knee and missed the first two games of the series against the San Francisco Giants. He's now hitting .342 on the season.

Fantasy Tip: Cozart mentioned he'll likely have to manage his tendonitis for the rest of the year, so he could be rested here and there. The way he's hitting, though, fantasy owners won't be worried at all. Cozart showed signs of breaking out last year before his injury and has picked up where he left off. At a shallow position, his power is attractive everywhere. Pick him up if he's still out there in your league.

Cincinnati Reds SS Zack Cozart (knee) returned to the lineup Wednesday, May 4.

Reds | Zack Cozart out Tuesday

Tue, 03 May 2016 13:22:38 -0700

Cincinnati Reds SS Zack Cozart (knee) is not in the lineup once again Tuesday, May 3, against the San Francisco Giants. Cozart's replacement is SS Ivan De Jesus, who will hit second against Giants SP Jeff Samardzija.

Fantasy Tip: Cozart is likely day-to-day, so keep him stashed on your bench until the team activates him. As for DeJesus, he is mostly a slap hitter with limited power so you may want to look for another shortstop in daily leagues.

Reds | Zack Cozart nursing tendinitis

Mon, 02 May 2016 13:03:35 -0700

Updating a previous report, Cincinnati Reds SS Zack Cozart (knee) could have played against the San Francisco Giants Monday, May 2, but manager Bryan Price gave him the day off to deal with tendinitis in his right knee.

Fantasy Tip: Monitor Cozart's injury status over the next few days, and it isn't out of the question to make preparations for a replacement in case the injury lingers. However, it sounds like Cozart is just nursing a minor ailment. He is off to a strong start with 14 runs and a .347/.350/.533 slash line. Stay tuned for updates.

Reds | Zack Cozart out of lineup

Mon, 02 May 2016 11:38:19 -0700

Cincinnati Reds SS Zack Cozart (knee) is not in the starting lineup Monday, May 2. SS Ivan De Jesus is starting at the 6 and is batting second against San Francisco Giants SP Johnny Cueto. Also, OF Billy Hamilton moves to the leadoff spot.

Fantasy Tip: Cozart's injury is perplexing because it's the same knee he had surgery on last year. Make plans to replace him in case he's out for an extended period. De Jesus has very little power or speed and is a weak daily option against Cueto. Hamilton is only useful for is speed and struggles to reach base consistently, but he gains some daily value in the move to the top of the order today.

Reds | Zack Cozart pulled following knee injury

Sun, 01 May 2016 13:09:18 -0700

Cincinnati Reds SS Zack Cozart (knee) left the game Sunday, May 1, against the Pittsburgh Pirates with an apparent right knee injury. Cozart, who reached on an error to start the top of the eighth inning but was met by a trainer at second base shortly thereafter, appeared to point to his right knee before walking off the field.

Fantasy Tip: There is reason for concern here since it is the same knee Cozart had ACL surgery on last season. The 30-year-old just wrapped up an incredible April atop the Reds' order, batting .361 with two homers, nine RBI and 13 runs scored. Ivan De Jesus replaced him in the field and would be a big drop-off offensively, as he entered Sunday hitting .133.

Reds | Billy Hamilton has three hits

Sat, 30 Apr 2016 23:02:28 -0700

Cincinnati Reds OF Billy Hamilton had three hits Saturday, April 30, in a 5-1 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates. He also scored the team's only run on a double by SS Zack Cozart.

Fantasy Tip: Hamilton's average improved to .218, which illustrates his biggest problem. Hamilton is strong when on the basepaths, but getting him on base is the big issue. If Hamilton ever figures it out all the way, he could be a very dangerous player.
