The Cincinnati Reds were forced to scratch SS Zack Cozart (illness) from Sunday, May 19's lineup against the Philadelphia Phillies due to illness. INF Cesar Izturis started in Cozart's place and batted second.

Updating a previous report, Cincinnati Reds SS Zack Cozart (fingers) said Saturday, April 20, that X-rays showed no fracture to his right index and middle fingers after he was hit by a pitch in the 13th inning.

Cincinnati Reds INF Cesar Izturis is taking groundballs at third base and shortstop in spring camp, and he'll be a regular backup to SS Zack Cozart at short. Izturis will make $800,000 this year if he is in the majors and can be released June 1 if he's not on the big league roster.

Cincinnati Reds general manager Walt Jocketty said the team will not look to trade SS Zack Cozart this offseason. Reports had circulated that the team was willing to part ways with Cozart or SS Didi Gregorius.

The Cincinnati Reds head into the offseason with finding a leadoff hitter as their biggest priority. The Reds used SS Zack Cozart, OF Drew Stubbs, 2B Brandon Phillips and OF Chris Heisey saw time at the leadoff spot this year. Their leadoff hitters hit only .208 with a .254 on-base percentage this season, which were both ranked last in the majors. SS Billy Hamilton could be an option, but he remains a year or more away from major league action.
