Royals | Jarrod Dyson cleared

Tue, 28 May 2013 16:18:59 -0700

Kansas City Royals OF Jarrod Dyson (ankle) was cleared to begin jogging Tuesday, May 28. "I still feel a little pain there," he said, "but it's just a process I've got to go through. I went 90 feet four times. They were just trying to get a gauge if the pain stayed with me after I stopped. It's going away when I stop." There is no timetable for his return.

Fantasy Tip: Dyson will probably need a few rehab outings before returning from the disabled list, so he will likely need at least another week before returning from the DL. Dyson's injury was bad timing, as he was just starting to receive consistent playing time at the expense of Jeff Francoeur. It's unknown if Ned Yost will go back to that arrangement upon Dyson's return. In deep mixed leagues, keep tabs on how that situation plays out before picking him back up.

Royals | Jarrod Dyson update

Fri, 24 May 2013 09:52:16 -0700

Kansas City Royals manager Ned Yost said OF Jarrod Dyson (ankle) is probably "at least three weeks" away from rejoining the Royals following his high-ankle sprain.

Fantasy Tip: This will allow Jeff Francoeur -- and on some days, David Lough -- to sustain AL-only-centric at-bats.

Royals | Chris Getz getting shot at leadoff spot

Wed, 22 May 2013 16:37:46 -0700

Kansas City Royals 2B Chris Getz is getting a shot at the leadoff spot since he's started to swing the bat better recently. He's gone 2-for-5 with a walk in his last two starts after previously going 4-for-46. SS Alcides Escobar (three games), OF Jarrod Dyson (three games), OF Lorenzo Cain (three games) and OF David Lough (three games) were all tried in the top spot.

Fantasy Tip: Maybe this keeps Getz going after he picked it up in the last couple of games. If he can peform well in the top spot, it'll help his chances of convincing Ned Yost that he belongs in the lineup on a daily basis, along with the fact that Yost has had trouble finding suitable leadoff hitters. Getz is mainly middle infield insurance in cavernous mixed leagues.

Royals | Jarrod Dyson to DL

Fri, 17 May 2013 10:27:41 -0700

Kansas City Royals OF Jarrod Dyson (ankle) has been placed on the 15-day disabled list. The team has recalled OF David Lough from Triple-A Omaha.

Fantasy Tip: Dyson's recent increase in playing time comes to a temp end. Jeff Francoeur will probably get his PT back but is at best a 15-team mixed league reserve unless he gets hot. If Lough gets a few ABs, he may be useful in deep AL-only leagues.

Royals | No platoon at 2B or in OF

Thu, 16 May 2013 14:24:08 -0700

Kansas City Royals manager Ned Yost is riding hot streaks from OF Jarrod Dyson (ankle) and 2B Elliot Johnson right now, and he indicated that he doesn't mean he's going with platoon setups at those positions. "I could play (Jeff) Francoeur (on Friday) against a right-hander," Yost said. "Then it's not a platoon. I'm going day-to-day right now. Dyson is swinging the bat well, so he's playing more." Dyson's availability is in question for this weekend, though, after he sprained his right ankle Wednesday, May 15. Dyson has started five of the team's last eight games and brings speed to their lineup. Johnson is the team's primary utility player in the infield, but he's started eight of the last 14 games with 2B Chris Getz hitting in a 4-for-47 (.193) slump.

Fantasy Tip: Dyson's playing time streak could run out due to his injury, depending on the severity, but he's worth owning while he's playing for his speed skills in deep leagues. Johnson is worth a pick-up in AL-only leagues while he's swinging a hot bat, too.

Royals | Lineup changes looming?

Wed, 08 May 2013 15:07:52 -0700

Kansas City Royals manager Ned Yost is considering changing up his lineup in the near future that would possibly include moving OF Alex Gordon from leadoff to third in the lineup and increased playing time for OF Jarrod Dyson and 2B Elliot Johnson. Dyson started in center field Wednesday, May 8, and OF Lorenzo Cain shifted to right in place of struggling OF Jeff Francoeur. Johnson started for the second day over 2B Chris Getz. Gordon is hitting only .180 (9-for-50) when leading off an inning compared to .490 (24-for-49) with runners on base. Yost is considering Dyson, Cain or SS Alcides Escobar for options at leadoff. Moving Gordon to third in the lineup would allow 1B Billy Butler to return to the cleanup spot.

Fantasy Tip: This could have varying degrees of fantasy implications. For one, this will give Gordon more opportunities for RBIs, and it also should put Dyson on the radar of deep mixed gamers if Francoeur continues to lose out. Yost believes Eric Hosmer eventually deserves to be the three hitter, but he's holding off until he picks it up at the plate.

Thu, 07 Feb 2013 23:28:12 -0800

Kansas City Royals OF Jarrod Dyson is aiming for a 50-steal season, which he believes could happen if his .247 career batting average goes up in 2013. "I got 30 last year and my numbers weren't even close to what I just said. I just want to do whatever it takes to help this team win," Dyson said.
