The Milwaukee Brewers agreed to contact extensions for general manager Doug Melvin and manager Ron Roenicke Tuesday, May 8. Melvin will be extended through the 2015 season, while Roenicke's new deal takes him through the 2014 season but includes a team option for the 2015 season. Financial terms weren't disclosed.

Milwaukee Brewers 2B Rickie Weeks (ankle) ran in the outfield Monday, Sept. 5, and is very close to being activated from the DL. Manager Ron Roenicke said Weeks could be activated to pinch hit as early as this weekend. "If we activate him, it's not activating him so he can play second base," Roenicke said. "It's activating him so he can bat, and if we get in a game where we're up a lot or down a lot, maybe we can put him at second base for a couple innings. Something to ease him in." It will be at least a week to 10 days before he is ready to play the field.

Milwaukee Brewers manager Ron Roenicke will keep SS Yuniesky Betancourt at shortstop despite an 0-for-22 slump at the plate. "I don't think he's at the point where I have to get him out of there. He's playing good defense, and he feels pretty good at the plate. We're hoping he gets that back," Roenicke said.

Updating a previous item, Milwaukee Brewers RP Zach Braddock was demoted to Triple-A Nashville partially due to punctuality issues. Braddock showed up at the ballpark on time, but was late going out for pregame warmups. "Zach's a good guy and works hard, he's trying to manage his stuff," Brewers manager Ron Roenicke said. "You need him to go somewhere he can get everything right. Once he gets everything right ... he's throwing the ball good so we'd like to see him back." Braddock has spent time on the disabled list this season because of a sleep disorder.

Milwaukee Brewers 1B Mat Gamel may be promoted from Triple-A Nashville around the middle of this week. Brewers manager Ron Roenicke wants to spell some of the regulars like 1B Prince Fielder, 2B Rickie Weeks and OF Ryan Braun, and Gamel can play multiple positions.

Milwaukee Brewers RP Marco Estrada may be used as a late-game option more often. "Estrada, the way he's pitching, he may be a guy we use later in the game," Brewers manager Ron Roenicke said. "Right now, I really like him later in the game." Estrada retired all six hitters he faced Friday night, his fourth scoreless relief appearance this season in four tries.

Milwaukee Brewers manager Ron Roenicke said OF Corey Hart is not hurt even though he is out of the starting lineup. Roenicke wanted to get OF Mark Kotsay consecutive starts because his bat has been warm.
