Indians | Giovanny Urshela optioned

Sat, 26 Mar 2016 12:26:28 -0700

The Cleveland Indians have optioned 3B Giovanny Urshela to Class AAA Columbus.

Fantasy Tip: Urshela lost his starting job at the hot corner to 3B Juan Uribe but will now have an opportunity to receive regular playing time in the minors. The progress of the 24-year-old at Columbus should continue to be monitored by owners in AL-only and cavernous mixed leagues.

Indians | Giovanny Urshela homers again

Mon, 21 Mar 2016 17:33:01 -0700

Cleveland Indians 3B Giovanny Urshela mashed his fifth home run of spring training Monday, March 21, versus the Chicago White Sox in his only at-bat of the afternoon.

Fantasy Tip: Urshela is now hitting .314 with 12 RBI this spring, and he's making it awfully tough for manager Terry Francona to decide between him and veteran Juan Uribe on his starting third baseman. If Urshela prevails with the job, he could have some value in AL-only leagues, and is exhibiting some potential that he may develop into an asset in mixed leagues at a later point down the road.

Indians | Giovanny Urshela fine after HBP

Tue, 15 Mar 2016 16:30:12 -0700

Cleveland Indians 3B Giovanny Urshela (back) is "fine" after having to leave the game Tuesday, March 15, when he got hit by a pitch. He was removed as a precaution and was going to exit the game soon anyway.

Fantasy Tip: Urshela has to fend off Juan Uribe for the starting job at the hot corner, so it's a good thing this doesn't appear to affect his health. After hitting .225/.279/.330 with six homers and 21 RBI in his rookie season, the 24-year-old isn't an ideal fantasy option to deploy at third base to start the season, but he did flash some promise at times. Even so, he's better suited for just AL-only leagues on draft day.

Indians | Cleveland likes Giovanny Urshela

Wed, 09 Mar 2016 16:15:24 -0800

Cleveland Indians 3B Giovanny Urshela is viewed as the team's third baseman of the future even after they brought in 3B Juan Uribe this offseason. However, Urshela still needs seasoning, and he's likely to start at Class AAA Columbus. He hit .225 with a .608 OPS in 81 games with the Tribe last year.

Fantasy Tip: A bad shoulder was mostly to blame for Urshela's terrible second half. There is power potential in this bat at the hot corner, though, but you'll need to remain patient. He's only an AL-only option for right now.

Indians | Giovanny Urshela could start in minors

Fri, 19 Feb 2016 17:27:30 -0800

Cleveland Indians 3B Giovanny Urshela could begin the 2016 season with Class AAA Columbus, as a result of the team signing 3B Juan Uribe.

Fantasy Tip: The 24-year-old Urshela batted just .225 with six home runs and 21 RBIs in 81 games during his rookie campaign, so the club may consider having him start the year in the minors to gain more seasoning. He should go undrafted in most fantasy formats, although owners in AL-only and dynasty leagues should keep tabs on his progress throughout the season.

Indians | Giovanny Urshela could play Thursday

Wed, 30 Sep 2015 17:51:10 -0700

Cleveland Indians 3B Giovanny Urshela (shoulder) could return to the starting lineup against the Minnesota Twins Thursday, Oct. 1.

Fantasy Tip: Urshela ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) has been sidelined since Sept. 17, due to soreness in his right shoulder. He is only hitting .222 with six home runs in 257 at-bats this season, including a .194 mark during the month of September, and is not a great FantasyScore option.

Indians | Giovanny Urshela could be shut down

Tue, 29 Sep 2015 13:42:54 -0700

Cleveland Indians 3B Giovanny Urshela (shoulder) could be shut down for the rest of the year because of a sore right shoulder.

Fantasy Tip: Urshela ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) hasn't played since Sept. 17 and is hitting just .194 (6-for-31) with a home run and five RBI this month. Avoid him everywhere even if he does make it back into the lineup.

Indians | Chris Johnson sitting against Royals

Mon, 14 Sep 2015 12:29:54 -0700

Cleveland Indians 3B Chris Johnson is not in the starting lineup Monday, Sept. 14. 3B Giovanny Urshela is starting at third base and batting eighth against Kansas City Royals SP Edinson Volquez Monday.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) is 16-for-46 since joining Cleveland, but he has just three runs and two RBI, so the counting stats still aren't there. Johnson is a fringe fantasy asset in deep mixed leagues, and likely should be left to AL-only and cavernous mixed formats. Urshela ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) owns a .600 OPS through 75 games this season, and he offers little upside for FantasyScore players Monday.

Indians | Chris Johnson sitting vs. Tigers

Thu, 10 Sep 2015 14:55:39 -0700

Cleveland Indians 3B Chris Johnson is not in the starting lineup Thursday, Sept. 10. 3B Giovanny Urshela is starting at third base and batting ninth against Detroit Tigers SP Alfredo Simon Thursday.

Fantasy Tip: Make sure to avoid Johnson ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) in all fantasy formats Thursday. The veteran has a .333 batting average over 12 games with Cleveland, but he still doesn't have a home run or RBI. Johnson is a low-end fantasy option in all formats. Urshela ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) is a low-priced flier for FantasyScore contests due to a potentially strong matchup against Simon ($6,200, 12.4% of cap) Thursday.
