The Boston Red Sox finalized their coaching staff Friday, Dec. 23, naming Jerry Royster as their third base coach and Alex Ochoa as their first base coach. Bob McClure is the pitching coach, Tim Bogar will serve as the bench coach, Dave Magadan will return as the hitting coach and Gary Tuck will be the bullpen coach.

Former manager Jerry Royster will be joining the Boston Red Sox in 2012 as their new third base coach, which will push Tim Bogar to the bench coach. Former bench coach DeMarlo Hale has joined the Baltimore Orioles as their third base coach.

Several Boston Red Sox coaches have been granted permission to explore other opportunities while waiting for a final decision to be made about their job status. All of the remaining coaches on the staff - bench coach DeMarlo Hale, hitting coach Dave Magadan, pitching coach Curt Young, third base coach Tim Bogar and bullpen coach Gary Tuck - have at least one year remaining on their current contracts. However, the new manager will have the final say on which coaches, if any, will be retained from the 2011 staff.

Gordon Edes, of ESPNBoston.com, reports Boston Red Sox third base coach DeMarlo Hale will be named the team's bench coach by manager Terry Francona, according to an American League source. Triple-A Pawtucket manager Ron Johnson is expected to become the team's first base coach, according to The Providence Journal. First base coach Tim Bogar will move to third base.

Alden Gonzalez, of MLB.com, reports the Boston Red Sox have interviewed Class AAA manager Ron Johnson, Class A manager Gary DiSarcina, minor league outfield/baserunning coach Tom Goodwin and minor league field coordinator Rob Leary for coaching positions. However, none of those coaches are expected to be named the new bench coach. That position is expected to go to either first base coach Tim Bogar, third base coach DeMarlo Hale or bullpen coach Gary Tuck.

Interim manager Dave Clark, minor league field coordinator Al Pedrique, former Milwaukee Brewers manager Ned Yost, San Diego Padres hitting coach Randy Ready, former Arizona Diamondbacks manager Bob Melvin, former Washington Nationals manager Manny Acta, Boston Red Sox pitching coach Brad Mills, Red Sox first base coach Tim Bogar, former Astros manager Phil Garner and Philadelphia Phillies bench coach Pete Mackanin are all candidates.
