Rams | Sam Bradford set for leadership role

Fri, 22 Mar 2013 19:26:50 -0700

St. Louis Rams QB Sam Bradford is expected to take more of a leadership role on offense in 2013, especially with RB Steven Jackson (Falcons) having moved on during the offseason. "You now we saw it was coming (last season)," head coach Jeff Fisher said. "Sam really took things over the second half of the season. We've got guys who can stand up and take charge and carry the torch. I'm not concerned about that. Sam, I was very impressed with how he handled things."

Rams | Coach says other players affected Sam Bradford's play

Mon, 18 Feb 2013 12:14:31 -0800

St. Louis Rams head coach Jeff Fisher indicated the play of QB Sam Bradford was negatively affected by some of the other players on offense this season but is happy with Bradford performed in 2012. "His play was directly affected by the people around him. There's times when it's difficult to step up in the pocket and make the good throw. That's not the quarterback's fault. That's whatever's going on out front," Fisher said. "We're pleased with what Sam did. He's got an exciting future. I know he's really excited about coming back in here in April and getting started and not having to learn another offense."

Rams | Danny Amendola update

Wed, 24 Oct 2012 08:05:21 -0700

Updating a previous item, St. Louis Rams WR Danny Amendola (clavicle) was limited in practice Wednesday, Oct. 24. QB Sam Bradford said it would be a big boost if Amendola could return for Week 8. "It would mean a lot. Obviously, I've said it before, a lot of our offense runs through Danny when he's healthy," Bradford said. "Just from the initial reports, I thought it was going to be quite a bit longer for him to get back on the field. But any time you get him back out there, I think it brought a whole spark to the whole group today, and just lifted everyone's spirits seeing him back out there."

Fantasy Tip: Owners should keep a close eye on just how much Amendola practices the rest of this week. Initial reports said his recovery time would be roughly six weeks. Nevertheless, his participation in practice, although limited, is a positive sign.

Thu, 06 Sep 2012 07:32:00 -0700

St. Louis Rams QB Sam Bradford said his decision to wait another year before declaring for the NFL Draft was not because he wanted to avoid playing for the Detroit Lions. "None at all," Bradford said when asked if playing in Detroit factored into his decision. "I went back to school just because I felt I wasn't ready for the NFL. At that point I had only played two seasons. I think I was still 20, 21 years old. I just felt I could really use another year in school to mature, both physically and mentally. Even though I came back and got hurt, I still feel that year helped me develop as a person."

Thu, 16 Aug 2012 06:51:23 -0700

St. Louis Rams QB Sam Bradford said he is working with offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer to fix and ultimately speed up his pocket mechanics. Bradford has absorbed 70 sacks in 26 career games through two seasons. "That's a lot of what I've talked about with Schotty so far," Bradford said. "Two days ago in camp, I thought I had a really good practice. I'm not sure the ball hit the ground once. And we got in the film room, and (Schottenheimer) was all over me about getting the ball out of my hands even quicker, to eliminate hits. He's made it a big point ... It's part of my job to help the protection and get the ball out of my hands and make sure that, even if it's not a sack, I'm eliminating the unnecessary hits."

Rams | Sam Bradford back to quick throws

Sat, 04 Aug 2012 18:10:52 -0700

St. Louis Rams QB Sam Bradford worked with three-step drops and quick five-step throws in his rookie season under then-offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur, and he completed 60 percent of his passes. Last season, then-offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels had Bradford working in seven-step drops and five-step throws to 15- and 18-yard routes. It was a disaster, as Bradford took a beating with receivers not getting open. His completion percentage was 53 percent. Bradford is back to his rookie ways under new offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer, and the word is that Bradford looks re-vitalized. He also started lifting weights and is throwing with authority.

Rams | Sam Bradford played tentative last season

Thu, 21 Jun 2012 09:20:46 -0700

St. Louis Rams QB Sam Bradford did not play with the same confidence in the pocket last season as he did during his rookie campaign, according to former NFL QB and current analyst Ron Jaworski. "In 2011, Bradford - with very few exceptions - did not look like the same, confident pocket quarterback that I saw as a rookie," Jaworski said. "He was tentative in the pocket, a function of both erratic offensive line play and receivers that could not win on the outside. But I was troubled by Bradford's increasing tendency to anticipate the rush. I call that 'Cabin Fever.' And Bradford struggled with that."

Do you take the kid and trade him from there? That might've been the only time, and that would've been the riskiest of risky moves. But I'll be clear: We decided early on that Sam was out quarterback."
