"His play was directly affected by the people around him. There's times when it's difficult to step up in the pocket and make the good throw. That's not the quarterback's fault. That's whatever's going on out front," Fisher said. "We're pleased with what Sam did. He's got an exciting future. I know he's really excited about coming back in here in April and getting started and not having to learn another offense."

At that point I had only played two seasons. I think I was still 20, 21 years old. I just felt I could really use another year in school to mature, both physically and mentally. "Two days ago in camp, I thought I had a really good practice. I'm not sure the ball hit the ground once. And we got in the film room, and (Schottenheimer) was all over me about getting the ball out of my hands even quicker, to eliminate hits. He's made it a big point ... It's part of my job to help the protection and get the ball out of my hands and make sure that, even if it's not a sack, I'm eliminating the unnecessary hits."
