Eagles | LeGarrette Blount gets vote of confidence

Tue, 22 Aug 2017 09:46:22 -0700

Philadelphia Eagles RB LeGarrette Blount is a "beast of a runner" and going to be "a big part of our offense," according to head coach Doug Pederson.

Fantasy Tip: Blount has been the opposite of a "beast" this preseason and will be hard-pressed to be a big part of the offense given he will lose late-down work to Darren Sproles. The Eagles have repeatedly and foolishly tried to get him on the perimeter this preseason and don't figure to be playing with the same degree of positive game scripts New England enjoyed last year. Blount is going to be tough to trust as anything more than a flex this season.

Eagles | LeGarrette Blount having weight issues

Mon, 21 Aug 2017 20:05:44 -0700

Philadelphia Eagles RB LeGarrette Blount has been having "weight issues" and looked "disappointing in practice," which is why it's possible he might not make the final roster.

Fantasy Tip: Despite scoring the second-most rushing touchdowns in the NFL last season, it appears Blount is not fitting in well with his new club. Even if the seven-year veteran ends up as part of the 53-man squad, it might be hard to lean on him regularly, given Philadelphia's running back situation. Darren Sproles, Donnel Pumphrey and Wendell Smallwood all figure to have a role in 2017, which will severely cap Blount's ceiling with the Eagles.

Eagles | LeGarrette Blount not guaranteed roster spot

Sun, 20 Aug 2017 08:44:04 -0700

Philadelphia Eagles RB LeGarrette Blount has struggled to get to the corner on off-tackle runs and has only nine carries for 17 yards through two preseason games, leading Matt Lombardo of NJ.com to conclude Blount may be among the team's cuts this summer.

Fantasy Tip: In Blount's defense, running between the tackles is his strong suit because he lacks the speed now to get to the edge consistently. Having said that, he just has not looked very good this summer in general. His ability to convert in short yardage and at the goal line may save him, but the Eagles would probably be better off by admitting their mistake and moving on. He's obviously a very risky RB3 in fantasy.

Eagles | LeGarrette Blount held in check

Thu, 17 Aug 2017 19:54:53 -0700

Philadelphia Eagles RB LeGarrette Blount rushed for eight yards on five carries in the preseason game against Buffalo Bills Thursday, Aug. 17. He also caught two passes for 15 yards during the game.

Fantasy Tip: Blount will be the main ball carrier for the Eagles this season and probably will not be used much in the passing game. He probably should be considered a No. 3 running back in standard leagues because of his touchdown potential. He will not have as much value in point-per-reception leagues.

Eagles | LeGarrette Blount unimpressive so far

Tue, 15 Aug 2017 19:49:48 -0700

Philadelphia Eagles RB LeGarrette Blount "hasn't exactly stood out" during training camp so far, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer's Jeff McLane.

Fantasy Tip: McLane notes Blount's skill set is one better suited for games than practices, but it is a bit concerning he isn't distinguishing himself from the Eagles' runners in some way, shape or form. Blount is the heavy favorite for early-down and goal-line work, but owners would be wise to view him as no more than a low-end RB3, especially considering he figures to have next to no role in the passing game.

Eagles | LeGarrette Blount returns to practice

Fri, 04 Aug 2017 06:18:48 -0700

Philadelphia Eagles RB LeGarrette Blount (personal) returned to practice Friday, Aug. 4, after missing the entire week due to personal reasons.

Fantasy Tip: Blount has touchdown potential, but he's not expected to have as big of a carry volume than in years passed. He's a high-end RB3 candidate with some bust potential.

Eagles | LeGarrette Blount excused

Wed, 02 Aug 2017 06:07:53 -0700

Philadelphia Eagles RB LeGarrette Blount (personal) was excused from practice Wednesday, Aug. 2, due to personal reasons.

Fantasy Tip: Blount has touchdown potential, but he's not expected to have as big of a carry volume than in years passed. He's a high-end RB3 candidate.

Eagles | Carson Wentz asked to do too much in 2016

Fri, 14 Jul 2017 12:36:21 -0700

Philadelphia Eagles QB Carson Wentz attempted 607 passes last year, the second-highest total for a rookie in NFL history. Head coach Doug Pederson hopes to "take a little bit off" Wentz's plate in 2017 and believes the addition of RB LeGarrette Blount to the running game will help in that respect.

Fantasy Tip: The running game fell off about the same time right tackle Lane Johnson began serving his suspension, which contributed largely to the Eagles' heavy reliance on Wentz. There is a good chance the second-year signal-caller will improve on last year's numbers (3782 yards passing, 16 touchdowns and 14 interceptions) simply because he has a better supporting cast around him now, led by Alshon Jeffery. Wentz should be a solid QB2 in fantasy in 2017.

Eagles | LeGarrette Blount lived in red zone in 2016

Tue, 11 Jul 2017 17:57:35 -0700

Philadelphia Eagles RB LeGarrette Blount was far and away the busiest player in the league inside the red zone last year, registering league highs in carries and touchdowns inside the 20, 10 and 5. Sixteen of his 68 red zone carries, 15 of his 42 attempts inside the 10 and 12 of his 24 rushes inside the 5 resulted in touchdowns. Mike Gillislee is expected to assume the power role Blount had with the New England Patriots last season.

Fantasy Tip: Blount obviously obviously cannot count on the same kind of volume in Philadelphia that he could in New England, but it is notable for present and future owners of Gillislee. While a repeat of Blount's franchise-record 18 rushing touchdowns for Gillislee is highly unlikely, he is a very good bet to reach double figures for the first time in his career and makes for a high-upside RB3 in most leagues.

Eagles | Corey Clement the odd man out?

Sat, 01 Jul 2017 20:41:15 -0700

Philadelphia Eagles RB Corey Clement is currently behind RB LeGarrette Blount, RB Darren Sproles, RB Wendell Smallwood and RB Donnel Pumphrey and is likely bound for the practice squad, according to Matt Lombardo of NJ Advance Media.

Eagles | Ryan Mathews not on the way out?

Fri, 30 Jun 2017 12:26:51 -0700

Philadelphia Eagles RB Darren Sproles told ESPN's Josina Anderson Friday, June 30, that he - along with backfield mates LeGarrette Blount and Ryan Mathews - "can share the ball and everyone can be happy."

Fantasy Tip: Mathews has long been considered to be on the outs in Philly ever since the Eagles signed Blount, presumably since the latter was supposed to take the former's "big-back" role in the offense. Mathews has to be cleared yet from offseason neck surgery, so his release still seems the most likely move for Philadelphia. Even if he sticks on the roster, he'll be hard to trust as anything more than a RB5.

Eagles | LeGarrette Blount has weight clause

Wed, 28 Jun 2017 07:21:27 -0700

Philadelphia Eagles RB LeGarrette Blount can earn $50,000 if he weighs between 240-245 pounds on the team's reporting date for training camp, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: Blount is expected to see a heavy dosage of carries, and his touchdown potential gives him some luster as a high-end RB3.

Eagles | LeGarrette Blount does not practice

Mon, 05 Jun 2017 16:37:10 -0700

Philadelphia Eagles RB LeGarrette Blount (illness) did not participate in organized team activities Monday, June 5, because of an illness.

Fantasy Tip: Blount should be fine for the start of training camp and could return for minicamp. Blount probably will receive a majority of the carries for the Eagles this season and can be considered a low-end No. 2 or a No. 3 running back in leagues because of his touchdown potential.

Eagles | LeGarrette Blount to lead backfield?

Fri, 19 May 2017 18:20:07 -0700

Philadelphia Eagles RB LeGarrette Blount will likely inherit the carries RB Ryan Mathews was given last year, according to beat writer Jimmy Kempski, and Kempski estimates Blount will see around 170 carries.

Fantasy Tip: Blount seems like a safe bet to handle the carries around the goal line, and if he also sees a bulk of the early-down work, he should have himself a nice season. Don't expect a repeat of last year's 18-touchdown outburst, but Blount could be a low-end RB2 or luxury RB3.

Eagles | LeGarrette Blount likes new QB

Thu, 18 May 2017 19:19:41 -0700

Philadelphia Eagles RB LeGarrette Blount said QB Carson Wentz is "one of those guys you want to build a team around" and "has the potential to be a really special player."

Fantasy Tip: Wentz showed promise in his rookie season, but it is still a reach to expect QB1 production from him in 2017. He is an appealing option in keeper formats but a backup in redraft leagues.

Eagles | Ryan Mathews done in Philly?

Wed, 17 May 2017 10:00:10 -0700

Philadelphia Eagles RB Ryan Mathews is expected to be released once he is healthy following the signing of LeGarrette Blount, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Fantasy Tip: Mathews has long been rumored to be out in Philadelphia, so Schefter isn't really breaking any new news here. The official move may take a while to happen, since the 29-year-old is still healing from neck surgery. Mathews may get another shot or two at running in the NFL, but his days of being a somewhat useful fantasy back are probably coming to an end.

Eagles | LeGarrette Blount agrees with Eagles

Wed, 17 May 2017 07:25:53 -0700

Free-agent RB LeGarrette Blount (Patriots) agreed to a one-year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles Wednesday, May 17, worth up to $2.8 million.

Fantasy Tip: The Eagles are expected to cut Ryan Mathews, and Blount will battle with Donnel Pumphrey and Wendell Smallwood for the carries on first and second downs. Darren Sproles will be in the mix on most third downs. If Blount, who should have a leg up on the rest, can seize the job, he'll be a decent RB2 in fantasy.

NFL | Teams still talking to LeGarrette Blount

Thu, 11 May 2017 07:21:21 -0700

Free-agent RB LeGarrette Blount (Patriots) has interested teams continue to talk to him, and they're trying to work around the compensation the New England Patriots attached to him.

Fantasy Tip: The tag placed on Blount is seldom used, and there's fear that it could scare teams away from him - much like the draft-pick compensation did to free agents in MLB. Blount is expected to land somewhere in a timeshare and could be a low-end RB2.

Patriots | Pats give LeGarrette Blount tender offer

Wed, 10 May 2017 12:40:29 -0700

Free-agent RB LeGarrette Blount (Patriots) received a one-year, $1.1 million tender offer from the New England Patriots before the May 9 deadline that affects compensatory picks, according to a source. The Patriots would receive help in their chances for a compensatory pick if Blount signs with another team.

Fantasy Tip: Blount likely will not re-sign with the Patriots because of the additions the team made at the position this offseason. Blount has been linked to a few teams but may be waiting for a better opportunity. He probably will be part of a committee no matter where he signs but could be a No. 3 or No. 4 running back in fantasy leagues because of his touchdown potential.

Lions | LeGarrette Blount has Lions' interest

Wed, 03 May 2017 05:40:50 -0700

Free-agent RB LeGarrette Blount (Patriots) has interest from the Detroit Lions, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: Blount figures to be busy on first and second downs wherever he lands, and he'll be a low-end RB2 in fantasy.

Giants | LeGarrette Blount has mutual NYG interest

Tue, 25 Apr 2017 05:14:35 -0700

Free-agent RB LeGarrette Blount (Patriots) has mutual interest in the New York Giants, and that situation could heat up as we get close to the NFL draft.

Fantasy Tip: The Giants still have a slew of backs, and they seemed to really like Paul Perkins late last season. Blount had a magical year in 2016, but he's unlikely to repeat those 18 touchdowns. He's more of an RB2 option in fantasy.

Patriots | LeGarrette Blount likely to find new team

Mon, 24 Apr 2017 16:43:45 -0700

Free-agent RB LeGarrette Blount (Patriots) likely will not re-sign with the New England Patriots this offseason after the Patriots signed RB Mike Gillislee.

Fantasy Tip: Blount has been linked to a few teams but likely will have to wait until after the draft to sign with a team. He probably will be part of a committee with his next team but could still be a No. 3 running back in some leagues because of his touchdown potential.

Giants | NYG still interested in veteran running backs

Sun, 23 Apr 2017 06:49:40 -0700

The New York Giants are one of several teams continuing to keep close tabs on free-agent RBs LeGarrette Blount (Patriots) and Adrian Peterson (Vikings), in the hopes that their salary demands will go down prior to the draft.

Fantasy Tip: Neither Blount nor Peterson should be viewed as prominent RB1 options in most fantasy formats. Blount is 30 and unlikely to duplicate his 18-touchdown performance from last season regardless of where he lands, while Peterson is 32 and has sustained multiple major knee injuries over the last three years.

Patriots | LeGarrette Blount not interested in NE offer

Mon, 10 Apr 2017 15:40:16 -0700

Free-agent RB LeGarrette Blount (Patriots) does not plan to sign the current offer from the New England Patriots, which he received at the start of free agency.

Fantasy Tip: Blount wants to re-sign with the Patriots but likely is looking for more money, but the Patriots are sticking with their first offer. He had an outstanding 2016 season with the Patriots and would have a similar role if he re-signs. He would be a No. 2 or No. 3 fantasy running back if he returns to New England.

Patriots | LeGarrette Blount back to New England?

Sun, 09 Apr 2017 17:23:19 -0700

Free-agent RB LeGarrette Blount (Patriots) is likely to re-sign with the New England Patriots sooner rather than later, according to beat writer Jim McBride.

Fantasy Tip: If Blount does return, his role as the power back in New England's high-scoring offense should keep him in the RB2 mix.

Patriots | LeGarrette Blount has offer from Pats

Fri, 07 Apr 2017 16:38:29 -0700

Free-agent RB LeGarrette Blount (Patriots) has received a contract offer from the New England Patriots this offseason.

Fantasy Tip: Blount likely would continue to receive most of the carries if he decides to re-sign with the Patriots but may be looking for a more lucrative contract from a team. Blount can be a No. 2 or No. 3 running back in fantasy leagues if he is back with New England.

Patriots | A LeGarrette Blount return still in question

Tue, 04 Apr 2017 16:37:14 -0700

New England Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount would like to return to the Patriots after next season and the Patriots would like him back. However, Blount and the Patriots remain on different terms in regards to a long-term contract.

Fantasy Tip: Blount led all NFL running backs last year with 18 touchdowns -- easily the most of any season in his career. Odds are that 2016 will end up being a career year for Blount, so expectations should be lowered going forward. He is capable of double-digit touchdowns, but don't view Blount as more than a low-end RB2 in standard leagues.

Giants | LeGarrette Blount an option for Giants?

Sun, 19 Mar 2017 14:14:54 -0700

Free-agent RB LeGarrette Blount (Patriots) could be an option for the New York Giants because they are looking for a power running back to complement RB Paul Perkins, in the opinion of ESPN.com's Jordan Raanan.

Fantasy Tip: Blount has not been linked to many teams this offseason but should find a new team before the start of training camp. He may not be able to find a starting job but should be part of a running back committee. He could be a No. 3 or No. 4 fantasy running back depending on his team and his role.

Patriots | LeGarrette Blount likely to walk?

Mon, 06 Mar 2017 05:42:46 -0800

New England Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount is expected to receive an offer in free agency the team won't match, and they're believed to be prepared for it.

Fantasy Tip: The backfield in New England is a little crowded after James White's emergence in the Super Bowl. Blount is coming off a monster 18-touchdown year, and it's tough to expect a repeat performance from the 30-year-old this year. He'll be in the RB1 discussion, but he's a more secure RB2.

Patriots | LeGarrette Blount thrives in postseason

Tue, 31 Jan 2017 16:27:53 -0800

New England Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount has rushed for eight touchdowns in his last seven postseason games. He has scored six times in his last seven games this season, including the playoffs.

Fantasy Tip: Blount led the NFL in rushing touchdowns this season with 18, so it's no surprise that he's continuing to score in the playoffs. Look for the Patriots to keep riding him in the Super Bowl against a subpar Atlanta Falcons rush defense.

Patriots | LeGarrette Blount powers late in win

New England Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount rushed 16 times for 47 yards and one touchdown Sunday, Jan. 22, against the Pittsburgh Steelers in the AFC Championship Game. He added one catch for eight yards.

Fantasy Tip: Blount has been masterful at finding the end zone this season, and -- assuming the to-be free agent returns to the Pats -- he'll be a viable RB3 in most formats for the 2017 fantasy campaign.

New England Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount had eight carries for 31 yards in a 34-16 win over the Houston Texans Saturday, Jan. 14.

Fantasy Tip: New England is notorious for favoring a certain back based on the matchup, and Blount was the odd man out tonight. He still has plenty of upside because of his touchdown potential, but fantasy owners have to accept occasional duds.

Patriots | LeGarrette Blount not on injury report

Fri, 13 Jan 2017 15:02:44 -0800

New England Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount (illness) fully participated in practice Friday, Jan. 13, and is not on the injury report for the Divisional round playoff game against the Houston Texans.

Fantasy Tip: Blount has been a solid running back for the Patriots this season and found the end zone 18 times during the regular season. Blount likely will receive a lot of carries against the Texans and should be a No. 1 running back in all leagues.

Patriots | LeGarrette Blount in team meetings Friday

Fri, 13 Jan 2017 10:00:57 -0800

New England Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount (illness) took part in team meetings Friday, Jan. 13.

Fantasy Tip: Blount missed practice on Wednesday and Thursday but has reportedly been at team headquarters on both days. Given his lack of practice time this week, he could see his snaps scaled back in Saturday's Divisional Round game against the Houston Texans, although he is a good bet to remain the team's goal-line back and score at least once if he plays. Continue to monitor this situation, but it appears for now he has a good shot at being active.

Patriots | LeGarrette Blount sits again

Thu, 12 Jan 2017 08:50:42 -0800

New England Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount (illness) is out of practice again Thursday, Jan. 12.

Fantasy Tip: It's not time to push the panic button yet. Blount had a fabulous season with 18 touchdowns, but the Patriots could go a different route in any given week. Also, Dion Lewis (knee) is healthy. Blount isn't a safe RB1 against the Houston Texans this weekend.

Wed, 11 Jan 2017 13:41:57 -0800

New England Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount (illness) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Jan. 11.

Fantasy Tip: Blount should be able to play in the Divisional Round playoff game as long as he can recover from his illness. He will receive most of the carries against the Houston Texans and can be a No. 1 running back in fantasy leagues.

Patriots | LeGarrette Blount played well against HOU

Mon, 09 Jan 2017 08:04:46 -0800

New England Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount had 24 rushes for 105 yards and two touchdowns in the Week 3 game against the Houston Texans.

Fantasy Tip: He did that while J.J. Watt (back) was still active, but the Pats were without Tom Brady during his suspension and Dion Lewis (knee). So Blount may or may not have the same kind of workload in this playoff game. Houston was a top-five defense containing opposing RBs in fantasy the last five weeks of the season. Blount will be a better play as an RB2.

Patriots | LeGarrette Blount providing balance

Sat, 07 Jan 2017 20:58:50 -0800

New England Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount set career highs with 299 carries, 1,161 yards and an NFL-high 18 touchdowns this season, and the Patriots ran the ball 45.6 percent of the time, their highest percentage since 2010.

Fantasy Tip: Blount has been much more than a short-yardage back this season, but handling the goal-line carries for a high-scoring offense is a big part of his appeal. He has a safe floor and plenty of upside and should be one of the better running back plays throughout the playoffs.

Sun, 01 Jan 2017 19:14:50 -0800

New England Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount rushed 14 times for 51 yards and a touchdown in the Week 17 game against the Miami Dolphins.

Fantasy Tip: Blount posted at least one touchdown run in each of the past five games, and 10 of the past 12 games. He led the NFL with 18 rushing scores, and went over 1,000 yards for the first time in his NFL career. He will be a popular pick in postseason fantasy leagues, too.

Patriots | LeGarrette Blount built for his role

Sat, 31 Dec 2016 18:46:13 -0800

New England Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount has the best conversion rate in the NFL this season on carries from the one-yard line, scoring on 10 of his 16 attempts, and Blount said he has the right mentality to be successful running in the red zone.

Fantasy Tip: Blount has scored in all but three games this season, and he has five scores in his last four games. Lock him in as a high-floor RB2 in Week 17.

Patriots | New England unlikely to rest starters

Mon, 26 Dec 2016 09:24:19 -0800

New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick hinted he would not be resting his starters in Week 17, suggesting Tom Brady, LeGarrette Blount and Julian Edelman among others will play their full complement of snaps in Week 17 against the Miami Dolphins. "I don't understand that question. I don't know how many starters we have," Belichick told reporters after being asked about resting starters in the season finale.

Fantasy Tip: Another Belichickian gem for sure, but it makes sense as the Patriots try to lock up home-field advantage in the AFC next weekend. Brady, Blount and Edelman should all be started without hesitation in Week 17.

Patriots | LeGarrette Blount scores twice

Sat, 24 Dec 2016 13:43:40 -0800

New England Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount rushed for 50 yards and two touchdowns on 20 carries against the New York Jets in Week 16.

Fantasy Tip: Blount has rushed for 17 touchdowns this season and has been a consistent option for fantasy owners but may be a risky option for owners in Week 17 if the team has the No. 1 seed in the playoffs clinched. He should be a No. 2 running back if the team is playing for something.

Patriots | LeGarrette Blount posts 72 yards, TD

Mon, 12 Dec 2016 21:45:34 -0800

New England Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount rushed 18 times for 72 yards and a touchdown in the Week 14 game against the Baltimore Ravens Monday, Dec. 12, and he added one grab for seven yards on his only target. He passed 1,000 rushing yards for the first time since the 2010 season, and his 14 rushing scores ties Hall of Famer Curtis Martin for the single-season record for the Patriots.

Fantasy Tip: Blount has been a consistent source of fantasy points all season and he is showing no signs of slowing down. He can be trusted as a low-end RB1 or must-start RB2 in all fantasy formats.

New England Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount faces the Baltimore Ravens in Week 14, and LB C.J. Mosley said the Ravens are ready to "gang-tackle" Blount.

Fantasy Tip: Blount has been a workhorse for the Patriots, but he is more of a low-end RB2 against a Baltimore defense that has allowed the fewest rushing yards and touchdowns this year.

Sun, 04 Dec 2016 16:15:08 -0800

New England Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount rushed 18 times for 88 yards and a touchdown in the Week 13 game against the Los Angeles Rams. He was not targeted in the pass game.

Fantasy Tip: Blount snapped a mini-scoring skid, as he hadn't found the end zone in either of his past two games. It was the first time this season he had back-to-back games without a visit to the end zone. He remains a must-start fantasy option in Week 14 despite facing the Baltimore Ravens and their lockdown rushing defense.

Patriots | Three Patriots RBs split snaps evenly

Mon, 28 Nov 2016 16:22:57 -0800

New England Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount received 27 snaps during the team's Week 12 game, while RB James White received 26 snaps and RB Dion Lewis received 23 snaps. The Patriots ran three plays with White and Lewis on the field at the same time.

Fantasy Tip: Blount received the most carries against the New York Jets and probably will continue to be the main running option moving forward. Lewis received six carries and caught four passes, while White caught four passes and received zero carries. Blount should be considered a No. 2 running back in most leagues but will not be as valuable in point-per-reception leagues. Lewis and White should be flex options for most owners.
