Patriots | LeGarrette Blount finds end zone again

Sun, 04 Dec 2016 16:15:08 -0800

New England Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount rushed 18 times for 88 yards and a touchdown in the Week 13 game against the Los Angeles Rams. He was not targeted in the pass game.

Fantasy Tip: Blount snapped a mini-scoring skid, as he hadn't found the end zone in either of his past two games. It was the first time this season he had back-to-back games without a visit to the end zone. He remains a must-start fantasy option in Week 14 despite facing the Baltimore Ravens and their lockdown rushing defense.

Patriots | Three Patriots RBs split snaps evenly

Mon, 28 Nov 2016 16:22:57 -0800

New England Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount received 27 snaps during the team's Week 12 game, while RB James White received 26 snaps and RB Dion Lewis received 23 snaps. The Patriots ran three plays with White and Lewis on the field at the same time.

Fantasy Tip: Blount received the most carries against the New York Jets and probably will continue to be the main running option moving forward. Lewis received six carries and caught four passes, while White caught four passes and received zero carries. Blount should be considered a No. 2 running back in most leagues but will not be as valuable in point-per-reception leagues. Lewis and White should be flex options for most owners.

Patriots | LeGarrette Blount so-so in win

Sun, 27 Nov 2016 22:57:37 -0800

New England Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount rushed 11 times for 67 yards in the Week 12 game against the New York Jets. He was targeted once but did not record a reception.

Fantasy Tip: Blount failed to find the end zone in back-to-back games for the first time this season. Despite the lack of touchdowns lately, he remains a must-start RB2 in all fantasy leagues heading into Week 13 against Los Angeles.

Patriots | LeGarrette Blount posts 124 yards

Sun, 20 Nov 2016 22:21:26 -0800

New England Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount rushed for 124 yards in the Week 11 game against the San Francisco 49ers, including a season-high 44-yard run.

Fantasy Tip: Blount entered the week with a league-leading 12 rushing touchdowns, but he failed to find the end zone. However, he had a solid stat line and he remains a solid fantasy option heading into Week 12 at N.Y. Jets.

Patriots | LeGarrette Blount to face poor rush D

Wed, 16 Nov 2016 22:14:41 -0800

New England Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount will meet the San Francisco 49ers in Week 11. The 49ers have allowed 180.4 rushing yards per game, worst in the NFL. The 49ers have also yielded an NFL-high 12 rushes of 20 or more yards and five scampers of 40-plus yards.

Fantasy Tip: Blount leads the NFL with 12 total touchdowns and he is certain to add to his total for fantasy owners this weekend against a porous 49ers rush D. He is a fantasy must-start in all formats for this ultra-favorable matchup.

Patriots | Three more scores for LeGarrette Blount

Sun, 13 Nov 2016 22:28:57 -0800

New England Patriots QB LeGarrette Blount rushed 21 times for 69 yards with three touchdowns in the Week 10 game against the Seattle Seahawks.

Fantasy Tip: Blount leads the NFL with 12 total touchdowns and he is likely to add to that total when he faces the San Francisco 49ers, a team that entered Week 10 ranked last in rushing defense.

Patriots | LeGarrette Blount totals 70 yards, TD

Sun, 16 Oct 2016 22:21:31 -0700

New England Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount (hip) rushed 13 times for 50 yards and a touchdown in the Week 6 game against the Cincinnati Bengals. He added two receptions for 20 yards on two targets.

Fantasy Tip: Blount did not have any setbacks with the hip injury which had him listed as questionable. He remains a solid RB2 heading into Week 7 against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Patriots | LeGarrette Blount will play Sunday

Sun, 16 Oct 2016 07:19:35 -0700

New England Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount (hip) will be active for Week 6's game against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Fantasy Tip: Blount should be viewed as a touchdown-dependent RB2 option in most fantasy leagues going forward, with the Patriots expected to continue passing more often with QB Tom Brady under center.

Patriots | LeGarrette Blount listed as limited

Fri, 14 Oct 2016 16:01:15 -0700

Updating a previous report, New England Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount (hip) was limited during practice Friday, Oct. 14, and is listed as questionable for Week 6.

Fantasy Tip: Blount received 18 carries last week and probably will receive a similar amount of carries against the Cincinnati Bengals. Owners should consider Blount as a No. 2 running back at this time since the Patriots will throw more often with Tom Brady back.

Patriots | LeGarrette Blount questionable

Fri, 14 Oct 2016 14:38:46 -0700

New England Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount (hip) was one of 12 players on the team's injury report Friday, Oct. 14.

Fantasy Tip: Blount's hip has been an "issue" for a while, but it hasn't kept him from ranking second in the league in carries through five weeks. Of bigger concern is the Patriots' shift in offensive philosophy with Tom Brady back under center. Blount was outsnapped by James White last week and doesn't fit well in the new offense, making him a touchdown-dependent RB2 at best going forward.

Patriots | LeGarrette Blount listed as limited

Wed, 12 Oct 2016 16:24:31 -0700

New England Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount (hip) was limited during practice Wednesday, Oct. 12.

Fantasy Tip: Blount was held to 37 yards in Week 5 but has scored five touchdowns in the first five games of the season. He will continue to receive most of the work in the running game and could be a No. 2 running back in standard leagues.

Patriots | James White outsnaps LeGarrette Blount

Mon, 10 Oct 2016 10:21:25 -0700

New England Patriots RB James White saw 38 snaps to LeGarrette Blount's 31 in a Week 5 win over the Cleveland Browns.

Fantasy Tip: While Blount was known to be dealing with a hip injury entering the contest, it is also notable the Patriots leaned on White more than their "grind-it-out" back even though they enjoyed a comfortable lead throughout. Hip injury or not, owners should probably expect a similar split until Dion Lewis returns, perhaps as early as two weeks from now. Until then, White should be considered the superior option in PPR formats, while Blount's touchdown upside gives him the edge in standard leagues.

Patriots | LeGarrette Blount in uniform

Sun, 09 Oct 2016 09:02:04 -0700

New England Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount (hip) is officially active for the team's Week 5 game.

Fantasy Tip: Blount should continue to receive most of the carries in the running back but could lose some touches with Tom Brady back in the lineup. He should still be a No. 2 running back for owners against a favorable matchup.

Patriots | Less work ahead for LeGarrette Blount?

Sat, 08 Oct 2016 09:21:00 -0700

New England Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount should expect his role to shrink with Tom Brady back from suspension, according to ESPN's Mike Reiss.

Fantasy Tip: Reiss points out the Patriots have used a designed run on 48 percent of their plays so far this year, but with Brady playing every snap last year, that number was 35 percent. With better health and more playmakers in the passing game this season, expect a similar approach. As a result, Blount figures to be more of a touchdown-dependent RB3/flex option going forward than RB2.

Patriots | LeGarrette Blount questionable

Fri, 07 Oct 2016 17:14:39 -0700

Updating a previous report, New England Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount (hip) is listed as questionable for Week 5.

Fantasy Tip: Blount should be able to play and will receive most of the carries during the game. It is not known if Blount will lose some carries with Tom Brady is back, but he should continue to be a No. 2 running back in all leagues.

Patriots | LeGarrette Blount appears to be fine

Fri, 07 Oct 2016 11:51:35 -0700

New England Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount (hip) was limited in practice on Thursday, Oct. 6, but the team does not appear to be overly concerned about his availability for Week 5 against the Cleveland Browns.

Fantasy Tip: Blount's run as a volume-heavy RB2 is likely coming to an end, but he's going to keep his monstrous touchdown upside even after Tom Brady returns this week and Dion Lewis (hopefully) complete his stint on the PUP list. In an offense that figures to be among the best in the NFL once again with Brady at the controls, Blount will be a high-upside flex most weeks.

Patriots | LeGarrette Blount limited by hip

Thu, 06 Oct 2016 17:13:40 -0700

New England Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount (hip) was a limited participant in practice Thursday, Oct. 6.

Fantasy Tip: Blount is expected to be on the field in Week 5, and even with Tom Brady returning, Blount should be a RB2 against a porous Cleveland defense.

Patriots | LeGarrette Blount limited

Wed, 05 Oct 2016 16:59:48 -0700

New England Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount (hip) was limited during practice Wednesday, Oct. 5.

Fantasy Tip: Blount should be able to play in Week 5, but owners can monitor the situation. He likely will lose some carries with Tom Brady back in the lineup but should still be a No. 2 running back in fantasy leagues.

Patriots | LeGarrette Blount has decent game

Sun, 02 Oct 2016 13:50:55 -0700

New England Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount rushed for 54 yards on 13 carries against the Buffalo Bills in Week 4. He also caught three passes for four yards in the game.

Fantasy Tip: Blount has been a big part of the team's offense over the first four weeks of the season but probably will see a little less work when Tom Brady returns. He can still be a No. 2 running back for owners most weeks.

Patriots | LeGarrette Blount wearing down defenses

Sat, 24 Sep 2016 18:05:25 -0700

New England Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount ran 15 times for 92 yards and a touchdown in the second half against the Miami Dolphins in Week 2 and 17 times for 94 yards and two touchdowns in the second half against the Houston Texans in Week 3.

Fantasy Tip: As injuries force New England to play quarterback roulette, Blount has been a workhorse. He will be a borderline RB1 in Week 4 against the Buffalo Bills, but he might be a nice sell-high candidate before Tom Brady returns from suspension to revitalize the passing attack.

Patriots | LeGarrette Blount scores a pair

Thu, 22 Sep 2016 21:15:56 -0700

New England Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount had 24 carries for 105 yards and two touchdowns in a 27-0 win over the Houston Texans Thursday, Sept. 22.

Fantasy Tip: Blount has been a workhorse for the Patriots thus far, topping 20 carries and rushing for at least 70 yards in all three games while scoring five times. However, his role could change dramatically once Tom Brady returns, so you may want to try to shop Blount while his value is at its peak.

Patriots | LeGarrette Blount has big game

Sun, 18 Sep 2016 13:52:39 -0700

New England Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount rushed for 123 yards and one touchdown on 29 carries against the Miami Dolphins in Week 2.

Fantasy Tip: Blount may be a focal point for the Patriots offense next week if Jimmy Garoppolo is not able to play in Week 3. He will continue to receive most of the carries in the running game and should be a No. 2 running back or a flex option for owners.

Patriots | LeGarrette Blount battling Tyler Gaffney?

Fri, 19 Aug 2016 10:42:01 -0700

New England Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount is "likely" battling RB Tyler Gaffney the club's final running back spot. RBs Dion Lewis and James White "appear to be locked in" as the receiving running backs, while RB Brandon Bolden "figures" to have a spot on the roster thanks to his role on special teams. Blount and Gaffney are competing for the "between-the-tackles kind of role."

Fantasy Tip: Due to Blount's proven track record, you have to believe he has the leg up in this competition, though it's also interesting that Gaffney was able to take an entire series worth of carries in the first half of New England's most recent preseason game with the first-team offense. No matter who emerges from this battle, though, they may not hold much fantasy value, given the amount of pieces regularly being used out of the Patriots backfield, as well as Bill Belichick's sometimes unpredictable use of his running backs.

Patriots | LeGarrette Blount runs over Chicago

Thu, 18 Aug 2016 20:22:34 -0700

New England Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount had 11 carries for 69 yards and a touchdown in a 23-22 preseason win over the Chicago Bears Thursday, Aug. 18.

Fantasy Tip: New England's backfield is tough to predict. Blount is worth grabbing in the later rounds in case he carves out somewhat of a steady role, but he will be tough to rely on from one week to the next.

Patriots | LeGarrette Blount fighting for spot

Tue, 02 Aug 2016 20:29:12 -0700

New England Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount appears motivated in the opening days of training camp as he fights for a roster spot.

Fantasy Tip: Blount knows the New England system well and appears to be a favorite of the coaching staff, but he'll need a big training camp and preseason to win a roster spot. Even then, his fantasy appeal is not terribly high given the presence of Dion Lewis, Brandon Bolden and James White, among others.

Patriots | LeGarrette Blount to carry the load?

Fri, 29 Jul 2016 19:01:44 -0700

New England Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount is going to have the opportunity to show the team what he can be, running backs coach Ivan Fears said Wednesday, July 27.

Fantasy Tip: With Dion Lewis on the mend and Tom Brady suspended, New England could lean on Blount and the power running game early in the season. If everything falls into place, Blount could be a useful RB3, but don't plan to rely on him as a fantasy starter.

Patriots | LeGarrette Blount avoids PUP list

Mon, 25 Jul 2016 19:11:40 -0700

New England Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount (hip), who missed all of the spring session due to a hip injury, was not placed on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list and appears ready for training camp.

Fantasy Tip: Blount might be fighting for his roster spot in training camp and the preseason. If he can make the roster he is a decent RB4 or RB5 for depth, but avoid him outside of the later rounds in most fantasy leagues.

Patriots | LeGarrette Blount on the bubble?

Wed, 20 Jul 2016 07:51:08 -0700

New England Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount's (hip) roster spot isn't a given, but there shouldn't be any issues if he returns from his season-ending hip injury and runs hard.

Fantasy Tip: Blount has RB5 luster in fantasy, but the Patriots tend to feature different running backs in different matchups. He has had big performances in the past and is worth taking a shot on late.

Patriots | Key Patriots absent Thursday

Thu, 26 May 2016 15:17:29 -0700

New England Patriots WR Julian Edelman (foot), RB LeGarrette Blount (knee), RB Dion Lewis (knee), WR Danny Amendola (ankle, knee) and TE Rob Gronkowski (undisclosed) did not participate in organized team activities Thursday, May 26.

Fantasy Tip: The Patriots are infamous for their vague injury reports and resting of players. Obviously they're going to take caution with the players listed above, though. As long as none of these guys suffer any setbacks this offseason, they should be good to go for the start of the regular season. Edelman and Gronk should both be viewed as fantasy starters at their respective positions, with more value in PPR formats. Lewis is an RB2 candidate in PPR formats if he can stay healthy, while Blount has RB3 potential if he, too, can keep his health. Amendola is the biggest injury risk; he shouldn't be viewed as more than a low-end WR4 to high-end WR5.

Patriots | More on LeGarrette Blount's contract

Tue, 12 Apr 2016 12:38:38 -0700

Updating a previous report, New England Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount's one-year deal is worth up to $2 million -- $1 million in base salary and bonuses and $1 million in incentives, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: Blount further clouds an already packed Patriots' backfield. Dion Lewis will be the primary running back when he's healthy, though. Blount could vulture a few touchdowns in 2016, but he's no more than a flex play, if that.

Patriots | LeGarrette Blount re-ups for one year

Tue, 12 Apr 2016 09:48:18 -0700

Updating an earlier report, New England Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount signed a one-year deal Tuesday, April 12.

Fantasy Tip: Blount returns to a backfield that doesn't have a lot of certainty. Dion Lewis (knee) is returning from a torn ACL, and he emerged as the lead back before he got hurt. Blount will have to share the load with him and James White, which makes Blount a risk at anything more than an RB4.

Patriots | LeGarrette Blount re-signs with Pats

Tue, 12 Apr 2016 09:01:56 -0700

Free-agent RB LeGarrette Blount (Patriots) re-signed with the New England Patriots Tuesday, April 12, on an undisclosed deal.

Fantasy Tip: Blount returns to a crowded backfield with questions. The way the team uses its backs, it's almost anyone's guess as to who will be featured against which opponent. Blount still has RB3 potential, but he's safer as an RB4 with Dion Lewis (knee) returning and James White still there.

NFL | LeGarrette Blount good to go

Sat, 12 Mar 2016 12:51:17 -0800

Former New England Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount (hip) is 100% healthy after suffering a chipped bone in his hip last season. Blount never underwent surgery and is good to go for organized team activities.

Fantasy Tip: He's good to go as long as someone signs him, that is. The days of Blount running for 100 or more yards and multiple touchdowns may be behind him, but he's still good enough to score at least a handful of touchdowns in one season. His fantasy value will be more specifically gauged once we know where he's playing next.

Patriots | New England could eye RBs in free agency

Wed, 24 Feb 2016 18:32:50 -0800

New England Patriots impending free-agent RB LeGarrette Blount and the team have shown mutual interest in a new contract, according to a source. Negotiations between the two sides are still in the "infant stages".

Fantasy Tip: Blount is unlikely to draw much interest on the free-agent market and finished last season on the Reserved/Injured List with a hip injury that didn't require surgery. Expect the Pats to move on from the 250-pound bruiser, who would be a RB3 at best if he returns to New England.

Patriots | LeGarrette Blount will not require surgery

Wed, 27 Jan 2016 11:45:01 -0800

New England Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount (hip) will not need surgery on his season-ending hip injury, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: Blount was lost for the season in Week 14 and placed on the Reserved/Injured List shortly thereafter. The 29-year-old, who led the Patriots in rushing with 703 yards and six touchdowns last season, will be an unrestricted free agent following the season. If New England chooses to bring him back, he should return as the early-down complement to Dion Lewis next season.

Patriots | New England likely to add at RB

Mon, 25 Jan 2016 21:06:41 -0800

New England Patriots RB James White played 57 of the 83 offensive snaps in the AFC Championship Game against the Denver Broncos Sunday, Jan. 24, and RB Brandon Bolden played 16. RB Steven Jackson rounded things out with 11 snaps. The team will also get RB Dion Lewis (knee) back from a torn anterior cruciate ligament in 2016, while RB LeGarrette Blount is an impending free agent. The team might face an offseason similar to 2011 when the selected a pair of backs in the NFL Draft.

Fantasy Tip: Lewis has the potential to be the top running back with this current group, with White and Bolden as solid backups. However, look for a rookie, and possibly a veteran running back, to be added in the offseason to provide competition.

Patriots | LeGarrette Blount staying with Patriots?

Mon, 25 Jan 2016 13:50:08 -0800

New England Patriots impending free-agent RB LeGarrette Blount could be on his way out of New England as he enters free agency this offseason. RB Dion Lewis (knee) will return from a torn anterior cruciate ligament and RB James White filled in nicely for Lewis. The Patriots also have another big back on their roster in RB Steven Jackson, putting Blount's future with New England in limbo.

Fantasy Tip: Gone are the days of Blount rushing for hundreds of yards and multiple touchdowns. The Patriots do need a ground-and-pound type of running back, but Blount may not be the answer for the future. This situation will play out over the course of the next few months, but Blount may be heading for fantasy irrelevancy.

Patriots | LeGarrette Blount placed on IR

Wed, 16 Dec 2015 14:19:20 -0800

New England Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount (hip) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list Wednesday, Dec. 16.

Fantasy Tip: Brandon Bolden ($2,900, 5.8% of cap) and James White ($5,200, 10.4%) figure to take over primary running back duties with Blount out. Bolden should do the ground and pound while White should continue to be mainly involved in the passing game. White, especially, is worth a long look on FantasyScore this week in a PPR scoring format.

Patriots | LeGarrette Blount could return

Tue, 15 Dec 2015 15:57:23 -0800

New England Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount (hip) could be back at some point during the playoffs. His timetable is unclear and the Patriots are still gathering information on his hip injury.

Fantasy Tip: Blount will still miss the last three games of the regular season, so James White and Brandon Bolden will be the only relevant fantasy running backs on the Patriots. White ($5,200, 10.4% of cap) has more value in PPR scoring formats like FantasyScore, while Bolden ($2,400, 4.8%) should receive most of the carries.

Patriots | LeGarrette Blount out for the year

Tue, 15 Dec 2015 15:11:02 -0800

New England Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount (hip) is out for the rest of the season with a hip injury, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: The Patriots are now down to Brandon Bolden ($2,400, 4.8% of cap) and James White ($5,200, 10.4%) to head their backfield, with Montee Ball likely backing them up. Bolden should be the primary runner going forward while White should continue to be primarily used in the passing game. Unfortunately, the Patriots play the Tennessee Titans in Week 15, who have been a top fantasy defense against running backs this year. New England's backfield may be one to avoid.

Tue, 15 Dec 2015 07:45:15 -0800

New England Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount (hip) could miss some time, according to sources, but nothing is definitive yet.

Fantasy Tip: James White ($5,200, 10.4% of cap) looks like the go-to back against the Tennessee Titans this week. He's a decent midrange grab on FantasyScore.

New England Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount carried 16 times for 56 yards in the Week 11 game against the Buffalo Bills Monday, Nov. 23. He also had one catch for five yards.

Fantasy Tip: It was a disappointing game for Blount and his FantasyScore owners, and when the Pats had the ball in the red zone and ran it was James White punching it in, not Blount.

New England Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount played 38 snaps (52% of the offense) Sunday, Nov. 15. RB James White played 28 snaps (38% of the offense) against the New York Giants.

Fantasy Tip: These two will probably be interchangeable some weeks, but Blount looks to be the leader of the backfield for now.

New England Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount had 19 carries for 66 yards and a touchdown and two catches for 11 yards in a 27-26 win over the New York Giants in Week 10.

Fantasy Tip: Blount ($6,400, 12.8% of cap) actually had the most catches of any of New England's running backs, and with Dion Lewis out of the picture, it looks like Blount should be a much safer option at FantasyScore going forward.

New England Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount's role will certainly increase with RB Dion Lewis (knee) out for the year, but the Patriots will remain a committee attack based on matchups and game situations. RB Brandon Bolden took over the pass-catching duties when Lewis was hurt in Week 9, but RB James White is closer to replicating Lewis' role when the game calls for an up-tempo attack. White was a healthy scratch in Week 9. White played 43 snaps to Blount's eight and Bolden's zero in Week 7 when Lewis was hurt.

Fantasy Tip: As you should know by now, relying on a single ball carrier in New England's backfield is maddening and will change on a week-to-week basis based on matchups and game flow. With Lewis out for the year, though, White should be your first target in deeper point-per-reception leagues, and he could immediately be a nice sleeper on FantasyScore against the New York Giants in Week 10.

Patriots | LeGarrette Blount has 100-yard day

Sun, 08 Nov 2015 14:28:23 -0800

New England Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount rushed 29 times for 129 yards in a 27-10 win over the Washington Redskins on Sunday, Nov. 8.

Fantasy Tip: Blount ($5,000, 10.0% of cap) looks like he could be a bargain for the moment, although his price could rise with RB Dion Lewis potentially out due to a knee injury. He will definitely be the No. 1 back going on unless something major happens.

Patriots | Dion Lewis to be game-time decision?

Wed, 28 Oct 2015 12:21:58 -0700

New England Patriots RB Dion Lewis' (abdomen) status for the Week 8 game against the Miami Dolphins Thursday, Oct. 29, remains up in the air, and head coach Bill Belichick said the team will find out Thursday if he can play. RB James White played 64% of the snaps in Week 7 to RB LeGarrette Blount's 12% as the Patriots went with a spread offense.

Fantasy Tip: Even if Lewis ($6,700, 13.4% of cap) plays, he could find his snaps limited with White filling in against the Dolphins. It's already difficult enough to predict New England's backfield utilizations on a week-to-week basis as it is. Lewis is a pretty risky daily pick this week.
