Steelers | LeGarrette Blount unlikely to sit

Wed, 27 Aug 2014 06:30:49 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers RB LeGarrette Blount will not be suspended or rendered inactive by the team following his preseason arrest. The collective bargaining agreement doesn't allow the team to suspend players for violations of the drug policy.

Fantasy Tip: Blount is a weak RB4 with some TD-only upside, but best serves as a handcuff to Le'Veon Bell.

Steelers | Le'Veon Bell will play

Tue, 26 Aug 2014 15:14:38 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers RBs Le'Veon Bell and LeGarrette Blount will play in the team's final preseason game against the Carolina Panthers, according to head coach Mike Tomlin. Starters normally don't play in the final preseason game, perhaps indicating this could be part of the punishment the two face for being charged with driving under the influence and possession of marijuana. Bell and Blount are still awaiting a decision on possible suspensions.

Fantasy Tip: The decision on a suspension should come any day now, though it may only be for a game or two if there is indeed a suspension issued.

Steelers | Le'Veon Bell status

Mon, 25 Aug 2014 12:41:58 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers RBs Le'Veon Bell and LeGarrette Blount could still face a suspension from the team, according to head coach Mike Tomlin. Bell and Blount were recently charged with driving under the influence and possession of marijuana.

Fantasy Tip: Keep tabs on this situation. If the two are suspended, it probably won't be for very long. Bell remains an RB2 option with RB1 upside.

Thu, 21 Aug 2014 08:02:32 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers RB LeGarrette Blount could face a one-game suspension for his arrest stemming from a marijuana possession charge. However, the suspension may not be rendered anytime soon.

Fantasy Tip: Blount's fantasy stock is unchanged unless the team invokes a suspension.

Steelers | LeGarrette Blount charged

Wed, 20 Aug 2014 16:40:07 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers RB LeGarrette Blount and RB Le'Veon Bell were charged by Ross Township Police Wednesday, Aug. 20, with marijuana possession.

Fantasy Tip: Blount could potentially be facing a one-game suspension, if you look around the league. Kansas City Chiefs WR Dwayne Bowe was penalized one game by the league for a similar infraction. However, the club could also potentially step up and penalize Blount (and Bell), too. His fantasy value was a bit limited with Bell expected to get a lion's share of the carries, but he is even less attractive if he misses any playing time.

Steelers | Preseason to determine RB rotation

Fri, 11 Jul 2014 17:42:41 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said training camp and preseason games will determine how the team uses RBs Le'Veon Bell, LeGarrette Blount and Dri Archer in the running game.

Fantasy Tip: Bell is expected to receive most of the snaps at the position and should be taken in the first few rounds in most fantasy leagues. Blount probably should be considered as a handcuff to Bell or later-round flier in drafts. Archer likely will not be selected in a majority of drafts.

Steelers | May go with three RBs on roster

Fri, 04 Jul 2014 16:35:01 -0700

Steelers | Le'Veon Bell could see 300 carries

Mon, 30 Jun 2014 05:45:46 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell will likely see 300 carries this season, but not much more than that as the team will use RBs LeGarrette Blount and Dri Archer to spell him and keep him fresh.

Fantasy Tip: Bell should also see a handful of receptions to make him a serviceable RB1.

Steelers | LeGarrette Blount seeing a lot of snaps

Thu, 12 Jun 2014 19:42:32 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers RB LeGarrette Blount is being used in a variety of ways during practice. He has been lined up in the slot, flanked outside and has been in some two-back sets with RB Le'Veon Bell.

Fantasy Tip: Blount is known for his bruising running style, but the fact that the coaching staff is willing to toy around with using him in different ways is encouraging. If you draft Bell, Blount is definitely worth considering as a handcuff.

Steelers | LeGarrette Blount impressing

Wed, 11 Jun 2014 19:13:32 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers RB LeGarrette Blount has "impressed" the coaching staff, and he figures to form a one-two punch with RB Le'Veon Bell. However, rookie RB Dri Archer could also work his way into the picture.

Steelers | LeGarrette Blount not expected to run much

Sun, 01 Jun 2014 14:09:40 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers RB LeGarrette Blount is expected to receive six to eight carries per game behind RB Le'Veon Bell.

Fantasy Tip: That renders him fairly useless in fantasy outside of being a handcuff. He'll have value in TD-heavy leagues if he figures into goal-line carries.

Fri, 28 Mar 2014 12:42:56 -0700

The Pittsburgh Steelers signed RB LeGarrette Blount (Patriots) to a two-year contract Friday, March 28. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Fri, 17 Jan 2014 23:43:28 -0800

The New England Patriots were cautioned by coach Bill Belichick to not engage in any extracurricular activity involving marijuana, since it is legal in small quantities in the state of Colorado. "It's a business trip. Nobody is going to care about that," RB LeGarrette Blount said. "Bill told us about it, he basically told us, 'Don't go out there and be stupid.' That's really good advice."

Patriots | LeGarrette Blount tweaks style

Tue, 17 Dec 2013 06:57:58 -0800

New England Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount has been more decisive in his running and kept his shoulders lower lately, whereas he used to run more upright and attempted to dance by defenders. Head coach Bill Belichick recently recommended the different style of running, and Blount has broken off big chunks of yardage since then.

Fantasy Tip: The New England running back situation is a muddy one and can change each week. Blount is still probably second in line behind Shane Vereen and ahead of Stevan Ridley in fantasy terms.

Patriots | Stevan Ridley back in the mix

Mon, 09 Dec 2013 09:28:23 -0800

New England Patriots RB Stevan Ridley was active and saw the field for 17 offensive snaps in the team's Week 14 game against the Cleveland Browns. He was used in a committee running back approach that included RBs Shane Vereen and LeGarrette Blount.

Fantasy Tip: Ridley was the third back up in the rotation because his ball-security issues have put him in the doghouse. It's good to see him back, but Vereen is clearly the most valuable runner in this backfield, especially in PPR leagues. Ridley is a risky start moving forward.

Patriots | Shane Vereen lead RB Week 13

Mon, 02 Dec 2013 10:38:46 -0800

New England Patriots RB Shane Vereen received the most snaps among the running backs Week 13 with 41 snaps and was used in several different formations. RB LeGarrette Blount played 20 snaps during the game while Brandon Bolden was on the field for nine offensive snaps.

Patriots | Stevan Ridley inactive

Sun, 01 Dec 2013 08:30:49 -0800

New England Patriots RB Stevan Ridley has been declared inactive for the team's Week 13 game.

Fantasy Tip: Shane Vereen, Brandon Bolden and LeGarrette Blount will be handling the reps at running back with Ridley out. Vereen should still be started in all leagues. Bolden and Blount could be flex options for desperate owners.

Tue, 19 Nov 2013 06:05:11 -0800

Patriots | Stevan Ridley limited

Wed, 09 Oct 2013 16:17:53 -0700

New England Patriots RB Stevan Ridley (knee) was limited in practice Wednesday, Oct. 9.

Fantasy Tip: It's great news for Ridley owners that he's already practicing this week after sitting out in Week 5; he didn't practice at all last week. However, if he plays, he may be limited, and the Pats will likely continue to give Brandon Bolden and LeGarrette Blount touches. Ridley is probably a flex play, at best, against the New Orleans Saints.

Patriots | Stevan Ridley ruled out

Fri, 04 Oct 2013 13:52:50 -0700

New England Patriots RB Stevan Ridley (knee) has been ruled out for Week 5.

Fantasy Tip: With Ridley out, LeGarrette Blount and Brandon Bolden likely will receive increased snaps on offense. Blount should be considered a No. 3 running back or a flex option in most leagues because he likely will get a majority of the carries. Bolden could be a flex option in deeper leagues if he plays.

Patriots | Stevan Ridley sitting

Fri, 04 Oct 2013 07:28:53 -0700

New England Patriots RB Stevan Ridley (knee) is out of practice Friday, Oct. 4.

Fantasy Tip: He could still play in Week 5, but it's not looking good. LeGarrette Blount and Brandon Bolden should share the workload against the Cincinnati Bengals this weekend if Ridley doesn't play. Grab them off the waiver wire now, especially if you own Ridley.

Patriots | Brandon Bolden makes debut

Sun, 22 Sep 2013 21:48:51 -0700

New England Patriots RB Brandon Bolden (knee) made his regular season debut in Week 3 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and he played more than 25 snaps. He was used in a three-man rotation at tailback with RBs LeGarrette Blount and Stevan Ridley. Blount led the team with 65 yards on 14 carries, while Bolden exploded for 51 yards on three totes, while adding five receptions and 49 yards. Ridley did little, going for just 35 yards in 11 runs.

Fantasy Tip: The situation was difficult enough to figure out before Bolden's arrival, but now fantasy owners have three RBs to sift through on the New England depth chart.

Patriots | Expected to lean on Stevan Ridley

Tue, 10 Sep 2013 12:40:45 -0700

The New England Patriots are expected to lean heavily on RB Stevan Ridley without RB Shane Vereen (wrist) in Week 2 against the New York Jets Thursday, Sept. 12. RBs Brandon Bolden (knee) and Leon Washington (thigh) are banged up, and RB LeGarrette Blount did very little with only seven carries in Week 1. Following each of the games that Ridley fumbled last year, he averaged 17.75 carries per game the following game.

Fantasy Tip: Vereen's injury is the best thing that could have happened for Ridley owners. If it weren't for that, Ridley could have taken a back seat to Vereen once again in Week 2. Expect a much different workload for Ridley this week against the Jets.

Patriots | Brandon Bolden sat out due to knee

Mon, 09 Sep 2013 15:37:05 -0700

New England Patriots RB Brandon Bolden (knee) was inactive in Week 1 due to a knee injury, but he could be a top candidate to replace RB Shane Vereen (wrist) as the team's "passing back." RB Leon Washington is the potential next man up with RB LeGarrette Blount not being a realistic option for the passing game.

Fantasy Tip: Bolden should be your first target over Blount because of Bolden's ability to catch passes. The upside for Bolden is much greater, as well, but how much he plays in Week 2 this Thursday night against the New York Jets will depend on his knee injury.

Patriots | Shane Vereen to miss at least 4 weeks

Mon, 09 Sep 2013 13:35:55 -0700

Updating a previous report, New England Patriots RB Shane Vereen (wrist) will miss at least four weeks after undergoing surgery on the broken wrist he suffered Week 1.

Fantasy Tip: Ridley should be expected to return to the lead back role after losing touches to Vereen in Week 1. After that, Brandon Bolden is more attractive over LeGarrette Blount because of his upside.

Comment (0) | Share: Tweet!Share on Facebook | Source: Boston Herald - Jeff Howe

Patriots | Stevan Ridley's role uncertain

Mon, 09 Sep 2013 13:07:25 -0700

New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels indicated the team has not decided what RB Stevan Ridley's role will be after he fumbled Week 1. "Stevan's got to do a better job of holding on to the football," McDaniels said. "He knows that. And we'll work hard with him on that."

Fantasy Tip: Even though he was benched Week 1, Ridley probably will receive a majority of the carries against the Jets in Week 2 because of Shane Vereen's injury. Ridley should be a solid No. 2 running back this week. Brandon Bolden and LeGarrette Blount should also receive some playing time Week 2 but likely should not be in any fantasy starting lineups.

Patriots | Shane Vereen out a few weeks

Mon, 09 Sep 2013 10:50:32 -0700

New England Patriots RB Shane Vereen (wrist) will miss a few weeks after suffering a broken bone in his wrist in Week 1. He will undergo surgery Monday, Sept. 9.

Fantasy Tip: Vereen was impressive against the Buffalo Bills in Week 1, receiving more carries than an ineffective Stevan Ridley. This is good news for Ridley owners, at least over the next few weeks. LeGarrette Blount will back up Ridley for the time being.

Patriots | Leon Washington could be on roster bubble

Thu, 29 Aug 2013 12:52:36 -0700

New England Patriots RB Leon Washington could be on the roster bubble because he has only been on the field for three of the team's 10 kick returns during the preseason. RB LeGarrette Blount returned kicks in the third preseason, and WR Josh Boyce has also been used as a returner.

Patriots | James Develin gets some carries

Sun, 18 Aug 2013 09:17:22 -0700

New England Patriots FB James Develin received some carries in third-and-short situations during the team's preseason game Friday, Aug. 16, and his ability in short-yardage situations could make RB LeGarrette Blount expendable. Head coach Bill Belichick said Develin has performed well during training camp.

Patriots | LeGarrette Blount runs with authority

Fri, 26 Jul 2013 10:39:49 -0700

New England Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount reportedly looked energized and quicker than in offseason work on the first day of camp Friday, July 26.

Fantasy Tip: Blount arrived to camp in great shape, and he could be a fantasy factor in New England this season, although the backfield is crowded at the moment. If he can win the goal-line job, for example, touchdowns could be plentiful in New England's still high-octane offense.

Patriots | Coach happy with LeGarrette Blount addition

Sat, 04 May 2013 10:31:27 -0700

New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick said he believes the team got good value when they acquired RB LeGarrette Blount. "With LeGarrette, he's been a productive player. He didn't play as much last year with the emergence of [Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin] down there, so I can certainly understand that Tampa was in. We felt like he was a talented guy that we wanted to have on our team," Belichick said.
