Giants | Dan Runzler nearly ready for extended spring

San Francisco Giants RP Dan Runzler (lat) said Saturday, April 7, that he feels good with his progress. He is back to throwing bullpen sessions with no issues, and he likely will have one or two more sessions before facing hitters in extended spring. "I'll see how my arm bounces back from that, and hopefully by the end of the month, I can start a rehab assignment," Runzler said. The plan is likely for Runzler to make an appearance or two with Class A San Jose before moving up to Triple-A Fresno.

The San Francisco Giants placed 2B Freddy Sanchez (shoulder), SP Ryan Vogelsong (back), P Eric Surkamp (undisclosed) and RP Dan Runzler (lat) on the 15-day disabled list Friday, March 30. Vogelsong's stint is retroactive to March 27, while the others are retroactive to March 26.

San Francisco Giants RP Dan Runzler (lat) flew to the Bay Area Thursday, March 8, to undergo a platelet-rich plasma treatment on his injured latissimus muscle. Runzler said the treatment went well and he might resume throwing in two to three weeks.

San Francisco Giants RP Dan Runzler (lat) will not require surgery, according to renowned Dr. James Andrews. Runzler simply aggravated his latissimus dorsi muscle, and did not tear it again. He is expected to return in four to six weeks.

Updating a previous report, San Francisco Giants RP Dan Runzler (shoulder) had an MRI Saturday, March 3, on his ailing left shoulder. The tests showed no structural damage. "We're pretty optimistic because the tests came back pretty good," Runzler said. He will meet with renowned Dr. James Andrews in Florida Sunday, March 4.
