Blue Jays | Dioner Navarro to return for Game 2

Tue, 02 Jun 2015 11:42:52 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays C Dioner Navarro (hamstring) will be activated from the disabled list in time for Game 2 of the team's doubleheader Tuesday, June 2. He's been out since April 22 with a strained hamstring. C Josh Thole is expected to be sent down to the minors as a result. Navarro will see action as the team's designated hitter and as a pinch hitter.

Fantasy Tip: Navarro ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) won't be an outstanding choice on FantasyScore immediately after his activation, but he should be seen as a sleeper play when he faces certain right-handed pitchers. In Game 2 against Nats starter Max Scherzer, if he's in the lineup, Navarro should be avoided.

Tue, 02 Jun 2015 08:21:15 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays C Russell Martin is out of the lineup for Game 1 of a doubleheader Tuesday, June 2, with C Josh Thole replacing him.

Fantasy Tip: Thole ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) has no FantasyScore appeal.

Blue Jays | Russell Martin resting vs. Nats

Mon, 01 Jun 2015 12:59:09 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays C Russell Martin is not in the starting lineup against the Washington Nationals Monday, June 1. C Josh Thole is starting behind the plate and batting sixth Monday.

Fantasy Tip: Martin ($5,100, 10.2% of cap) has caught fire over the past 25 games with 15 runs, four home runs, 11 RBI and a .340/.376/.564 slash line. His rising value is built into his FantasyScore cap hit, though, so be wary of when you insert him into your lineups. Thole ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) should be viewed as nothing more than a desperation source of cap relief.

Blue Jays | Russell Martin not starting Tuesday

Tue, 26 May 2015 12:40:04 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays C Russell Martin is not in the starting lineup Tuesday, May 26, against the Chicago White Sox. C Josh Thole is batting ninth.

Fantasy Tip: With John Danks pitching for the White Sox, Martin ($5,100, 10.2% of cap) is likely taking a seat because it is a lefty on the hill. Thole ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) is not worth the start.

Blue Jays | Russell Martin resting Thursday

Thu, 21 May 2015 11:35:29 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays C Russell Martin is not in the starting lineup Thursday, May 21. C Josh Thole is starting behind the plate and hitting sixth in the batting order against Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Matt Shoemaker.

Fantasy Tip: Thole ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) is used mainly for his defensive skills behind the dish, and he has become R.A. Dickey's personal catcher. Ignore him at FantasyScore for his bat.

Blue Jays | No Russell Martin Thursday

Thu, 14 May 2015 12:58:43 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays C Russell Martin is not in the starting lineup Thursday, May 14. C Josh Thole is behind the plate and is batting eighth in the order against Houston Astros SP Roberto Hernandez.

Fantasy Tip: Thole ($1,600, 3.2% of cap), who is hitting .167 (2-for-12) in a backup role, is a desperation sleeper play at FantasyScore this evening.

Blue Jays | Russell Martin has day off

Sun, 10 May 2015 07:16:51 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays C Russell Martin is not in the starting lineup Sunday, May 10, against the Boston Red Sox. C Josh Thole will catch Blue Jays starter R.A. Dickey.

Fantasy Tip: Thole ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) is nothing but a deep GPP option for FantasyScore owners willing to punt the catcher position.

Blue Jays | Russell Martin out Monday

Mon, 04 May 2015 13:35:16 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays C Russell Martin is not in the starting lineup Monday, May 4. C Josh Thole is catching and hitting sixth in the batting order against New York Yankees SP Chase Whitley.

Fantasy Tip: Thole ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) has become Dickey's personal catcher at this point, so this is no surprise. Consider Thole a low-end catching commodity at FantasyScore tonight.

Blue Jays | Russell Martin resting Wednesday

Wed, 29 Apr 2015 12:02:43 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays C Russell Martin is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, April 29. C Josh Thole is starting behind the plate and hitting eighth in the batting order against Boston Red Sox SP Rick Porcello.

Fantasy Tip: Thole ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) is likely to be R.A. Dickey's personal catcher for each of his starts, so it's not a huge surprise that Martin is sitting today. Thole isn't a strong FantasyScore option this evening, as he hit only .232 (23-for-99) with seven RBI against right-handers in 2014.

Blue Jays | Russell Martin sitting vs. Rays

Fri, 24 Apr 2015 13:04:00 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays C Russell Martin is not in the starting lineup against the Tampa Bay Rays Friday, April 24. C Josh Thole is batting ninth and will catch SP R.A. Dickey Friday.

Fantasy Tip: Make sure to remove Martin ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) from your lineups Friday. While his batting average (.159) leaves a lot to be desired, his counting starts are impressive, as Martin has already scored nine runs, hit two home runs and drove in nine runs. When in the lineup, Martin is a nice source of cap relief for FantasyScore players. Thole is a defensive-first catcher and career .204 hitter against left-handed pitchers. Avoid him in daily contests Friday.
