Mon, 22 Apr 2013 11:54:55 -0700 Texas Rangers 2B Jeff Baker will likely start against a left-handed pitcher Tuesday, April 23, and he is 5-for-14 (.357) this year with good career numbers versus southpaws. Baker could either play left field or first base with both OF David Murphy and 1B Mitch Moreland struggling against lefties. Fantasy Tip: Baker won't be getting enough playing time to be considered in mixed leagues, and he should only be added if you're desperate for an outfielder in deep AL formats.
Wed, 10 Apr 2013 20:44:01 -0700 Texas Rangers manager Ron Washington stuck with 1B Mitch Moreland Wednesday, April 10, with the bases loaded and one out against a left-handed pitcher. He had struck out twice earlier in the game after a lefty. Moreland ended up grounding into a double play to foil a big inning. "It was all about Moreland out there today," Washington said. "I had no intentions of using (OF Lance Berkman) right there (as a pinch hitter)."
Wed, 27 Mar 2013 12:38:32 -0700 Texas Rangers 1B Mitch Moreland has shown that he has improved his all-around game, especially hitting left-handed pitchers. "He's moving better, staying inside the ball and hitting to the opposite field, which is going to be key for him to stay consistent," manager Ron Washington said. "He worked hard during the winter to have good at-bats against lefties, and I think he has, so he'll see more lefties." He leads the team with four home runs and 13 RBIs in 21 spring contests. Fantasy Tip: With a full season of health and more playing time, Moreland has the skills to hit close to 30 home runs, and their is hope that his average can improve. There is nice value potential here, too.
Sun, 10 Mar 2013 17:54:49 -0700 Texas Rangers 1B Mitch Moreland (quadriceps) was scratched from the lineup Sunday, March 10, for the second straight day. He is dealing with tightness in his right quadriceps, and the absence was considered precautionary. He is expected to return to game action Monday, March 11.
Mon, 18 Feb 2013 15:27:58 -0800 The Texas Rangers signed 11 players to one-year deals Monday, Feb. 18. The players were P Wilmer Font ($491,000), INF Leury Garcia ($490,000), P Roman Mendez ($490,000), 1B Mitch Moreland ($502,700), SP Alexi Ogando ($506,600), P Joe Ortiz ($490,000), SP Martin Perez ($492,000), SS Jurickson Profar ($491,000), RP Tanner Scheppers ($493,600), P Matt West ($490,000) and P Coty Woods ($490,000).
Tue, 12 Feb 2013 20:05:52 -0800 Texas Rangers OF Engel Beltre, OF Craig Gentry, 2B Ian Kinsler, 1B Mitch Moreland and 3B Mike Olt were among those working out in camp Tuesday, Feb. 12, before the official report date for position players.
Mon, 11 Feb 2013 14:49:46 -0800 Texas Rangers 1B Mitch Moreland will have the opportunity to hit against righties and lefties in spring training this year. "David Murphy got that chance last year and did a good job," manager Ron Washington said. "We just want Mitch to come in here, stay healthy and continue to improve. If he does that, he'll be fine."
Wed, 30 Jan 2013 20:53:30 -0800 If the Texas Rangers need a replacement in the outfield, either due to injury or a potential suspension, the thought is that 1B Mitch Moreland or 3B Mike Olt might be used in the outfield.
Sun, 06 Jan 2013 20:07:27 -0800 Texas Rangers SS Jurickson Profar might end up at Triple-A Round Rock to start the season if he doesn't stick in the undesirable role of utility infielder. The depth chart for the team changed following the addition of 1B Lance Berkman. Berkman will serve as the team's designated hitter, keeping 1B Mitch Moreland at first base and 2B Ian Kinsler at second base rather than a position change. Fantasy Tip: Profar remains one of the top long-term keeper options in fantasy baseball, but his value might take a slight hit in re-draft leagues if he does not start out in the majors. Still, he is worth a look in the later rounds of all AL-only leagues as a stash option. If he doesn't start in Arlington, he will likely be the first player called up if an infielder goes down.
Wed, 12 Dec 2012 11:08:18 -0800 Texas Rangers 2B Ian Kinsler said he is open to the idea of moving to first base in order to accommodate SS Jurickson Profar in the infield next year. "My feeling is whatever I need to help this team win," said Kinsler. 1B Mitch Moreland would receive more at-bats at designated hitter or off the bench in that case. A move to the outfield for Kinsler has not been talked about.
