The Tampa Bay Rays appear to have interest in Texas Rangers 1B Mitch Moreland, who may be expendable following the trade for 1B Prince Fielder from the Detroit Tigers. It is thought the Rays might want to trade SP David Price, and the Rangers have expressed interest.

Texas Rangers 1B Mitch Moreland said he is not sure what will happen this offseason but will be ready to play for whichever team he is on next season. "I'm just a player. To be honest, I haven't thought about my situation much. Come spring, I will be ready to play, whether it is here in Texas or somewhere else. I'm just going to keep approaching it the way I have in the past and I'm going to try to enjoy the game."

Texas Rangers 1B Prince Fielder will be the team's primary first baseman, and the team is still trying to determine 1B Mitch Moreland's role. SS Jurickson Profar can now move to second base full time with 2B Ian Kinsler gone. Manager Ron Washington hasn't decided on where Fielder will hit in the lineup yet, but he wants to leave 3B Adrian Beltre in the cleanup spot.

Texas Rangers 1B Mitch Moreland, who is hitless in his last 21 at-bats, is back in the lineup Monday, Sept. 16. "Sometimes, Mitch is too hard on himself," said hitting instructor Dave Magadan. "He needs to trust what he has and what he can do. There is not a need at this level for a guy who has had some success to make major changes. To some extent, everybody tinkers with their swing, but you don't want to get to a point where it becomes a detriment to your development." Moreland is hitting just .182 with a .612 OPS since returning from the disabled list.

Texas Rangers 2B Jeff Baker started at first base for the third time in four games with a lefty on the hill Monday, Aug. 12, and he could start a platoon situation with 1B Mitch Moreland down the stretch. "I have to play Baker somewhere against left-handers," manager Ron Washington said. Baker is hitting .361 with a .444 on-base percentage and an .836 slugging percentage against southpaws this year. Moreland is batting .245 with two home runs, a .298 on-base percentage and a .409 slugging percentage.
Fantasy Tip: This gives Baker some viability in cavernous mixed leagues. It also hurts Moreland's PT and value in those same formats. Right now, it wouldn't be very wise to keep Moreland in your lineup if the Rangers are facing a southpaw.

Detroit Tigers SP Justin Verlander (quadriceps) carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning in his start Sunday, July 14, against the Texas Rangers. He eventually surrendered a two-out double to Rangers 1B Mitch Moreland, and left shortly thereafter due to tightness in his right quadriceps muscle. Verlander will travel to New York for this week's All-Star festivities, but he will not pitch in the game Tuesday, July 16, since he worked today. However, manager Jim Leyland has Verlander penciled in to start Saturday, July 20.
Fantasy Tip: All indications are that Verlander will not be forced to miss any time due to the injury, but stay tuned. With the All-Star break, an adjustment to the rotation could easily be made.

The Texas Rangers officially activated 1B Mitch Moreland (hamstring) from the 15-day disabled list Friday, June 21.
Fantasy Tip: Get Moreland back into your lineup. If you're searching for a more productive first baseman or corner infielder, Moreland is still available in a wide range of leagues out there.

Texas Rangers manager Ron Washington said 1B Mitch Moreland (hamstring) likely will start at the bottom of the starting lineup when he comes off the disabled list. Washington said Moreland could move up to the No. 5 spot in the lineup in the future.
