Brewers | Jimmy Nelson called up

Sun, 25 May 2014 07:24:42 -0700

The Milwaukee Brewers purchased the contract of SP Jimmy Nelson from Triple-A Nashville. INF Jeff Bianchi was optioned to Nashville.

Fantasy Tip: Nelson is starting in place of Yovani Gallardo (ankle), who is being skipped a start - so it may be a short-term move. Nelson is 5-1 with a 1.71 ERA and a 9.0 K/9 at Triple-A and should be picked up in NL-only leagues.

Brewers | Jean Segura may miss OD

Wed, 26 Mar 2014 14:05:53 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers SS Jean Segura (shoulder) might miss opening day due to a sore right shoulder. An MRI exam on his shoulder came back negative, though, according to manager Ron Roenicke. Segura has been out since March 18, and he might not play in the team's remaining spring training game. Roenicke said Segura is day-to-day, and he refused to say if it's a disabled list scenario.

Fantasy Tip: The injury doesn't seem to be very serious, but Segura may need to open on the DL and miss some games. If that's the case, Jeff Bianchi may fill in at the 6 in the meantime.

Brewers | Rickie Weeks likely headed for DL

Thu, 08 Aug 2013 12:39:28 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers 2B Rickie Weeks (hamstring) will head for an MRI exam on his left hamstring, and he's likely to land on the disabled list. Weeks is hitting only .209 with 10 home runs and 24 RBIs this year.

Fantasy Tip: Jeff Bianchi filled in at the keystone last night and will likely do so again today. Scooter Gennett, who was just sent to the minors recently, will likely be recalled if Weeks lands on the DL. Gennett would likely start regularly over Bianchi, so look to acquire him in NL leagues if he comes back up.

Brewers | Jean Segura out of the lineup

Sun, 28 Jul 2013 17:04:18 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers SS Jean Segura (forearm) was not in the lineup Sunday, July 28, against the Colorado Rockies, just one day after being hit on the right forearm by a pitch. Manager Ron Roenicke said Segura is fine, and he had been looking for a time to give Segura a day off, so the All-Star's absence was considered a rest day. No x-rays were taken on Segura's arm. SS Jeff Bianchi started at shortstop Sunday in Segura's stead.

Fantasy Tip: Segura had played in 101 of the first 103 games, so a rest was good for him. Heading into the new week, Segura is a slight risk, but it sounds like his skipper doesn't feel his injury is major, and the fact he didn't require x-rays is a good sign. Start him in all fantasy leagues as you normally would.
