Mariners | Ketel Marte diagnosed with mono

Fri, 22 Jul 2016 14:31:24 -0700

Seattle Mariners SS Ketel Marte (illness) was placed on the disabled list with mononucleosis Friday, July 22. In a corresponding move INF Luis Sardinas was recalled from Class AAA Tacoma. Manager Scott Service said Sardinas and SS Shawn O'Malley will split time at shortstop with Marte on the DL. Marte also does not have a return timeline yet.

Fantasy Tip: Marte can be replaced in the majority of seasonal leagues, and O'Malley and Sardinas aren't viable options outside of cavernous mixed and AL-only leagues. Stay tuned for updates, but this is likely a timeshare to avoid.

Mariners | Ketel Marte remains sidelined

Wed, 20 Jul 2016 10:38:50 -0700

Seattle Mariners SS Ketel Marte (illness) remains out of the starting lineup Wednesday, July 20. SS Shawn O'Malley is starting at shortstop again and is batting ninth against Chicago White Sox SP Miguel Gonzalez.

Fantasy Tip: Marte is dealing with a viral infection but could return to the lineup any day now. O'Malley has been filling in at the 6 but has very little offensive upside aside from some speed. He's only an asset in deep NL-only leagues and should be left alone in DFS today.

Mariners | Shawn O'Malley to start Tuesday

Tue, 19 Jul 2016 17:41:30 -0700

Seattle Mariners INF Shawn O'Malley will start at shortstop against Chicago White Sox SP Jose Quintana Tuesday, July 19, and is batting first.

Fantasy Tip: O'Malley is hitting .316 with two RBI this month, but owners in most fantasy leagues should be able to find better options to use.

Seattle Mariners SS Ketel Marte is not in the starting lineup Monday, July 18. SS Shawn O'Malley is starting at the 6 and is batting ninth against Chicago White Sox SP Chris Sale.

Fantasy Tip: O'Malley has some speed but doesn't hit much and is one to avoid against the All-Star Sale this evening. Marte is likely receiving a normal day of rest in the tough matchup.

Mariners | Several SEA regulars resting Saturday

Sat, 16 Jul 2016 10:59:03 -0700

Seattle Mariners OF Seth Smith, C Chris Iannetta and SS Ketel Marte (ankle) are not in the starting lineup against Houston Astros SP Lance McCullers Saturday, July 16. OF Daniel Robertson will bat leadoff and play left field, C Jesus Sucre will bat eighth and start behind the plate and INF Shawn O'Malley will bat ninth and play shortstop.

Fantasy Tip: Robertson, Sucre and O'Malley should all be considered as nothing more than inexpensive fliers in daily fantasy games with little upside.

Mariners | Ketel Marte injures ankle

Fri, 15 Jul 2016 20:16:49 -0700

Seattle Mariners SS Ketel Marte (ankle) injured his ankle sliding into third base against the Houston Astros Friday, July 15, and he was replaced by OF Shawn O'Malley.

Fantasy Tip: O'Malley would likely see more playing time if Marte misses time, but he doesn't have any fantasy value.

Mariners | Dae-ho Lee on the bench

Sun, 10 Jul 2016 10:34:44 -0700

Seattle Mariners 1B Dae-ho Lee is not in the starting lineup against Kansas City Royals SP Dillon Gee Sunday, July 10. 1B Adam Lind will start at first base, while 2B Robinson Cano will serve as the designated hitter. INF Shawn O'Malley will start at second base and is batting ninth.

Fantasy Tip: O'Malley is hitting only .211 in limited playing time this season and should be avoided in all fantasy leagues. Cano and Lind should be solid starting options for owners.

Mariners | Leonys Martin not in lineup

Thu, 07 Jul 2016 13:07:27 -0700

Seattle Mariners OF Leonys Martin is not in the starting lineup Thursday, July 7. SS Shawn O'Malley is starting in center field and is batting ninth against Kansas City Royals SP Danny Duffy. Also, SS Ketel Marte moves up to the leadoff spot.

Fantasy Tip: It's a tough lefty-lefty matchup, so Martin receives a breather. O'Malley is extremely limited offensively, so he should be ignored everywhere. Marte, a switch-hitter, also has limited pop with one homer and 16 RBI. Speed is his main asset, but it doesn't play well in daily affairs.

Mariners | Ketel Marte sitting out

Sat, 02 Jul 2016 15:07:51 -0700

Seattle Mariners SS Ketel Marte is out of the lineup Saturday, July 2, with SS Shawn O'Malley hitting ninth.

Fantasy Tip: O'Malley is hitting just .210 and isn't worth the DFS flyer against Tyler Wilson.

Mariners | Adam Lind out of lineup Sunday

Sun, 26 Jun 2016 12:36:10 -0700

Seattle Mariners 1B Adam Lind is not in the lineup Sunday, June 26, against St. Louis Cardinals SP Jaime Garcia. OF Nelson Cruz will serve as the designated hitter and remain in his usual fourth spot in the order, while OF Franklin Gutierrez will replace Cruz in right and bat second. C Chris Iannetta will start behind the plate after a day off and hit seventh, while INF/OF Shawn O'Malley will replace OF Seth Smith in left and bat ninth.

Fantasy Tip: Gutierrez is hitting .295 with six homers and 18 RBI in 88 at-bats against southpaws this season. Although he's not a recommended DFS play, he should make for a solid fill-in in regular leagues. Iannetta has performed well versus left-handers as well in 2016 and could be worth a flyer in daily as well as weekly leagues. O'Malley can be avoided in all formats.
