Cubs | No plans to trade Starlin Castro

Fri, 18 Jul 2014 11:08:21 -0700

Chicago Cubs SS Starlin Castro has drawn trade interest, but the team has no plans to trade him this month.

Fantasy Tip: If the Cubs do trade Castro, Javier Baez would probably get called up and play shortstop. The team could also move Baez to second base eventually and have Addison Russell play shortstop.

Tue, 15 Jul 2014 15:53:06 -0700

Chicago Cubs SS Starlin Castro credits manager Rick Renteria for setting the tone for his success this season. Castro said he talks with Renteria a lot, and Renteria trusts him to just play baseball.

Cubs | Starlin Castro excelling at cleanup

Fri, 02 May 2014 12:58:38 -0700

Chicago Cubs SS Starlin Castro is hitting .450 (9-for-20) since moving to the cleanup spot in the batting order. "I think it doesn't hurt (Anthony Rizzo) to have Starlin there," manager Rick Renteria said. "Do I see Starlin as a prototypical fourth hitter? Not necessarily. It just works that way right now." Renteria says Castro is more relaxed at the plate and has a good routine with hitting coach Bill Mueller.

Fantasy Tip: It's a small sample size, but fantasy owners of Castro aren't complaining about the move, at least while it lasts.

Cubs | Starlin Castro moved in order

Thu, 03 Apr 2014 14:21:56 -0700

Chicago Cubs SS Starlin Castro was moved to second in the batting order Thursday, April 3, after he started 0-for-9 in the first two games of the season. "Putting him in the two-hole may ease it a little bit," manager Rick Renteria said. "We'll continue to do whatever we can to put him in the best position possible. We need him. We need him to be able to show his offense. Put him in the two-hole now plays a little better, that's what we'll do."

Fantasy Tip: It's not a great start for Castro, but it's only a few games. Give him some more time before you start panicking and looking for backup plans at shortstop.

Cubs | Starlin Castro plays

Sat, 29 Mar 2014 18:35:37 -0700

Chicago Cubs SS Starlin Castro (hamstring) was able to return to the starting lineup for the Cactus League spring game Saturday, March 29. He was hitless in two at-bats with a walk.

Fantasy Tip: The return was good news for nervous fantasy lineups, as he did not suffer any known setback and was able to play, so it appears there is little to no risk he lands on the 15-day disabled list now.

Cubs | Starlin Castro ready to return to action

Thu, 27 Mar 2014 13:36:16 -0700

Chicago Cubs SS Starlin Castro (hamstring) is expected to return to major league exhibition games in one or both of the next two days after straining his hamstring March 2 sliding into second base. Castro has only played in two Cactus League games in camp, but he said he's now 100 percent healthy. He played the field and ran at full speed Wednesday, March 26, and he'll play all nine innings in a minor league game Thursday, March 27.

Fantasy Tip: If Castro gets through this weekend without any setbacks, he should be fine for opening day and the start of the regular season. Plan to have him in your starting lineups.

Cubs | Starlin Castro says he's close

Mon, 24 Mar 2014 15:52:22 -0700

Chicago Cubs SS Starlin Castro (hamstring) said he's close to playing in a major league game and is playing defense after suffering a right hamstring strain March 2. Castro went 1-for-5 with an RBI single in a minor league game Monday, March 24.

Fantasy Tip: Barring any unforeseen setbacks, Castro expects to be ready for opening day. He hasn't received many at-bats this spring, however, so be wary of a sluggish start to the year.
