Cubs | Starlin Castro being more aggressive

Tue, 21 Apr 2015 08:57:34 -0700

Chicago Cubs SS Starlin Castro has improved his defense so far in 2015, and he has just one error to begin the season. SP Jake Arrieta sees a new aggressiveness about Castro on defense, and Castro credits manager Joe Maddon for encouraging him to be better on defense. "How about Castro at shortstop?" Maddon asked rhetorically after Monday's game. "Right now I don't know if you guys have seen him play a better shortstop. I mean I'm really impressed with what he's doing out there."

Fantasy Tip: While Castro's ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) defense doesn't concern fantasy owners at all, the new aggressiveness and confidence with which he's playing could easily translate over to the offensive side, too. He's off to a fine start, going 16-for-49 (.327) with a home run and six RBI.

Cubs | Starlin Castro 100% healthy

Wed, 25 Mar 2015 14:08:18 -0700

Chicago Cubs SS Starlin Castro (groin) said he is 100% healthy and has no problems with his groin Wednesday, March 25.

Fantasy Tip: Castro ($5,000, 10.0% of cap) has 28 plate appearances this spring and is coming off a solid bounce back season. Castro is a viable mid-round shortstop target, however he doesn't excel in any category and his power-speed combo isn't enticing, either. Castro has 13 swipes over the past two seasons and has never topped 15 home runs in a season. Still, at 25, he is just entering his prime and already has 3186 plate appearances and 846 hits in his career. There could be another level of production in an improved lineup.

Wed, 04 Feb 2015 11:07:26 -0800

Chicago Cubs SS Starlin Castro is fully healthy heading into the season, and his swing is well ahead of where it was last season already, as he was popping balls out of the park during batting practice Tuesday, Feb. 3. Castro recently moved his family from the Dominican Republic to Arizona, which allowed him to get an early start on spring training, and he feels much safer and more comfortable. Castro dealt with a left ankle injury and hamstring problems last spring.
