The Washington Nationals head to the Winter Meetings in Dallas next week still looking for a No. 1 starter for their rotation, a leadoff hitter/center fielder, and bench holes to fill. General manager Mike Rizzo said he wants a pitcher who has a history of throwing 200 innings every year.

Washington Nationals general manager Mike Rizzo said he hasn't written off 1B Adam LaRoche (shoulder), who's on the disabled list with a torn labrum in his left shoulder. "I'm not going to worry until I have to worry. Right now, he's on a two-week shutdown and a two-week ramp up," Rizzo said.

Washington Nationals general manager Mike Rizzo, manager Jim Riggleman and C Ivan Rodriguez were seen arguing with umpires after the team's game Thursday, May 19, after a controversial call in the ninth inning. Rodriguez had to be held back while he was arguing.

The Washington Nationals signed general manager Mike Rizzo to a five-year contract extension Tuesday, Oct. 19, and promoted him to executive vice president of baseball operations, according to The Associated Press. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Washington Nationals general manager Mike Rizzo told The Associated Press that the Nationals will seek to add via free agency or trade "a guy to head the rotation, a front-of-the-rotation guy to put everybody in what we feel is their proper place in the rotation." Rizzo also mentioned the need for a cleanup hitter that plays first base, saying "We want it to be Adam Dunn. But if it isn't, we need to address that situation."

Washington Nationals general manager Mike Rizzo is still hopeful the team can sign first-round draft pick C Bryce Harper, according to The Associated Press. "It's a player we really want in the organization and the talks and negotiations are always difficult, always unique," Rizzo said.

According to The Washington Post, six Washington Nationals players have been offered 2010 contracts, keeping them from hitting free agency. RP's Jason Bergmann, Sean Burnett and Brian Bruney, C's Wil Nieves and Jesus Flores, and OF Josh Willingham are the six offered deals. General manager Mike Rizzo also expressed interest in bringing back SP Scott Olsen and RP Mike MacDougal, who were not tendered, on reduced deals.
