Washington Nationals general manager Mike Rizzo signed a new deal Thursday, Aug. 1, and has been given the title of president of baseball operations. The team is calling the new deal a "long-term contract."

Nationals | Unlikely to make more moves

Washington Nationals general manager Mike Rizzo said the team is unlikely to make anymore offseason acquisitions barring a change to their current roster. "If you're talking about a big-time trade or a big-time free-agent acquisition, I would think that would have to be something that was set off by something that happens here in camp," Rizzo said in his first media session of the spring. "But we're always looking to get ourselves better and deeper, and if there's something to be done that makes sense for us, we'll certainly do it."

Colorado Rockies general manager Dan O'Dowd said OF Carlos Gonzalez won't be traded before the trade deadline. "The Carlos Gonzalez thing is a joke," O'Dowd said. "We're not trading Carlos Gonzalez." Washington Nationals GM Mike Rizzo reportedly called with interest in Gonzalez and was turned down. OF Michael Cuddyer is unlikely to go anywhere, either. OF Dexter Fowler is unlikely to be moved, but O'Dowd did not call him untouchable. RPs Rafael Betancourt and Matt Belisle are unlikely to be traded as well, per O'Dowd. SP Jeremy Guthrie, 1B Jason Giambi and SS Marco Scutaro are the most likely to be traded if anyone goes this summer.

The Washington Nationals are not looking to trade for help with six of their players currently on the disabled list. "With the guys that we have that are coming back, we're not making a push to look outside ourselves for offense or bullpen," general manager Mike Rizzo said. "We're satisfied. We like the club that we have. We just need to get healthy. In the meantime, we need to continue to play good baseball and execute better offensively."
