Minnesota Twins OF Oswaldo Arcia and C Kurt Suzuki are not in the starting lineup against Detroit Tigers SP Jordan Zimmermann Saturday, April 30. OF Eddie Rosario will start in left field and is batting eighth, while C J.R. Murphy will start at catcher and is batting ninth.

Fantasy Tip: Rosario is hitting .105 over the last seven days and should be avoided in all fantasy leagues. Murphy is also struggling at the plate and should not be used in any leagues.

Twins | Joe Mauer, Kurt Suzuki resting

Sun, 24 Apr 2016 08:38:02 -0700

Minnesota Twins 1B Joe Mauer and C Kurt Suzuki are out of the lineup against Washington Nationals SP Stephen Strasburg Sunday, April 24. 1B Byung Ho Park will bat cleanup and play first base and C J.R. Murphy will start behind the plate and bat seventh.

Fantasy Tip: Mauer is batting .328 through 18 games but is receiving the day off because the game is in a National League stadium and Byung Ho Park is getting the start at first base. Murphy is just 2-for-26 and is not a recommended fantasy option this afternoon versus Strasburg.

Twins | Kurt Suzuki entering camp as starter

Sat, 20 Feb 2016 08:56:37 -0800

Minnesota Twins C Kurt Suzuki will begin spring training as the team's starting catcher, according to manager Paul Molitor. C J.R. Murphy will serve as the backup.

Fantasy Tip: Some people believes that Murphy would be the starter, but Suzuki will be given the first chance to earn the job. Suzuki hit only .240 with five home runs last season and probably should only be consider in AL-only leagues. Murphy could win the starting job at some point and could be an option in some two-catcher leagues as well as AL-only leagues.

Yankees | Aaron Hicks dealt to Yanks

Wed, 11 Nov 2015 11:06:22 -0800

The New York Yankees acquired OF Aaron Hicks from the Minnesota Twins Wednesday, Nov. 11, in exchange for C J.R. Murphy.

Fantasy Tip: Is this foreshadowing that New York will trade Brett Gardner this offseason? It could be, but stay tuned. Hicks is a candidate to play center field if Gardner is moved, but either way, it could improve his fantasy stock in deep mixed leagues with a much better home hitting environment. The move of Hicks also assures Byron Buxton more playing time in Minnesota. The trade of Murphy (a backup catcher) is further evidence that the Yanks see Gary Sanchez as close to becoming the primary backup to Brian McCann. Keep Sanchez's name close in dynasty leagues.

Yankees | J.R. Murphy could start Tuesday

Tue, 06 Oct 2015 09:42:05 -0700

New York Yankees C J.R. Murphy could catch the wild-card game against Houston Astros left-handed SP Dallas Keuchel Tuesday, Oct. 6, over C Brian McCann. The Yankees have included C Gary Sanchez on their playoff roster, which would give the Yankees more flexibility to put McCann in the game when the Astros go to their bullpen.

Fantasy Tip: Either way you slice it, McCann ($5,000, 10.0% of cap) isn't a good option for FantasyScore owners. Even if he starts, McCann had just six of his 26 home runs against left-handers and is in a matchup to avoid. It's best to go cheap on catcher for the wild-card games.
