Tue, 22 Feb 2011 11:56:25 -0800 NFL Draft prospect Jake Locker could elect to start a professional baseball career if there is an NFL work stoppage or if he is unable to agree to terms with an NFL team, reports ESPNLosAngeles.com. Locker was selected by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in the 10th round of the 2009 draft and gave him a $250,000 signing bonus, which allows them to hold his rights until August of 2015. Locker has traveled to Arizona from time to time to work out at the Angels' minor league facility and has done everything to live up to his obligations of the contract. Locker played baseball at Ferndale High School in Washington and was a standout pitcher and outfielder; he also played college baseball summer league in 2008.
Sun, 16 Aug 2009 11:59:58 -0700 MLB.com's Ed Eagle reports the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim have signed 10th-round draft pick OF Jake Locker, who doubles as the starting quarterback for the University of Washington. Financial terms of the deal were not released, but the Angels control his baseball rights for the next six years. However, Locker intends to pursue a career in professional football and is only considering baseball as a backup plan.
