San Francisco Giants manager Bruce Bochy said 1B Brett Pill started against the Arizona Diamondbacks Sunday, May 13, instead of 1B/OF Brandon Belt, because the team needed a power threat in the cleanup spot with C Buster Posey (ankle) getting the day off.

San Francisco Giants manager Bruce Bochy said 1B Brandon Belt's at-bats against Los Angeles Dodgers SP Clayton Kershaw on Tuesday, May 8, were some of the best Belt has had all year. Belt has made an adjustment the team sought. He is standing more upright. As for future starts against lefties, Bochy said, "Again, we'll see what the matchups are."

As expected, San Francisco Giants 1B Brandon Belt sat Saturday, May 5, against the Milwaukee Brewers with a left-handed starter on the mound. He entered for defensive purposes late in the game, but he did not get an at-bat.

San Francisco Giants manager Bruce Bochy indicated that 1B Brandon Belt is likely to sit Saturday, May 5, against the Milwaukee Brewers when left-handed SP Randy Wolf is on the hill. "It's a dilemma, really," Bochy said. "We've been putting him out there, but it's a tough call."

"We're going to try to mix everybody in there. Brandon's going to be part of this. I'll get him in there as much as I can."

San Francisco Giants 1B Brandon Belt had the day off Monday, April 9, and he wasn't sitting based on his poor performance over the last few days. Belt went 1-for-10 with five strikeouts and didn't hit a ball out of the infield after his third at-bat. "When a hitter tells me he's pressing, it's time to give him a day to relax a little bit," manager Bruce Bochy said. "It's natural for young players early in the season. They want to get off to a good start. They lose sight that there are a lot of games in the season and the first week is not going to determine what your season is going to be like."

San Francisco Giants 1Bs Brandon Belt and Brett Pill have both made the team out of spring training, along with OG Gregor Blanco. The others filling out the roster are INFs Ryan Theriot and Emmanuel Burriss, C Hector Sanchez and Ps Clay Hensley and Dan Otero. C Eli Whiteside was optioned to minor league camp along with INF Joaquin Arias.
