Giants | Brandon Belt feels ready to play

Fri, 27 May 2016 15:43:43 -0700

Updating a previous report, San Francisco Giants 1B Brandon Belt (ankle) said he could play Friday, May 27, or Saturday, May 28, after he took batting practice in the batting cage Friday. Belt sprained his left ankle sliding into second base during the game against the San Diego Padres Wednesday, May 25.

Fantasy Tip: Injuries seem to always creep up and limit Belt from fulfilling the upside he flashes in spurts. However, it seems he will be able to return soon this time. Thus far, Belt has a respectable 22 runs and 22 RBI with a .276/.407/.442 slash line, but owners hope he beefs up the power, as he sits with just four long flies. Check back to see if Belt returns to the starting lineup Saturday.

Giants | Brandon Belt, Hunter Pence remain out

Fri, 27 May 2016 14:33:58 -0700

San Francisco Giants 1B Brandon Belt (ankle) and OF Hunter Pence (hamstring) remain out of the starting lineup Friday, May 27. C Trevor Brown is starting at first base and hitting eighth, while OF Jarrett Parker is in right field and batting seventh against Colorado Rockies SP Tyler Chatwood.

Fantasy Tip: Both Belt and Pence are considered day-to-day and could return to the lineup as soon as tomorrow. Get them both back into starting lineups everywhere when they're ready. The young Parker has serious power upside (23 homers last year in minors), so he's worth a cheap flier in DFS. Brown has surprised with four home runs in 56 at-bats as the backup catcher. His upside is limited low in the order, but you can do worse as a low-end catcher to save salary cap space tonight.

Giants | Brandon Belt could return Friday

Thu, 26 May 2016 08:48:56 -0700

San Francisco Giants 1B Brandon Belt (ankle) could return to play against the Colorado Rockies Friday, May 27, after X-rays on his mild left ankle sprain came back negative. "It didn't look great," Belt told reporters. "But I feel like unless something happens (on Thursday) and I wake up and it's swollen, I feel like I'll be able to play Friday."

Fantasy Tip: The Giants are off on Thursday, so Belt may not wind up missing any games at all. His owners may have dodged a bullet, as Belt has been contributing nice numbers (.276-4-22) as a solid starting fantasy first baseman in all leagues. Check back Friday to make sure he's back in there before putting him back into your starting lineup.

Giants | Brandon Belt injury update

Wed, 25 May 2016 16:15:35 -0700

Updating a previous report, San Francisco Giants 1B Brandon Belt's (ankle) ankle sprain is "mild," according to manager Bruce Bochy. Bochy said Belt might need to rest for a couple of days.

Fantasy Tip: Belt owners can collectively breathe a sigh of relief after that news. Be prepared to keep him out for a few days at least, but this doesn't look like it'll put him on the DL. Belt is a fine starting first baseman in all fantasy leagues and could threaten to hit 20 home runs for the first time in his career in 2016.

Giants | Brandon Belt tweaks ankle

Wed, 25 May 2016 15:23:08 -0700

San Francisco Giants 1B Brandon Belt (ankle) tweaked his left ankle sliding into second base against the San Diego Padres Wednesday, May 25. He had to be helped off the field by trainers.

Fantasy Tip: This is concerning news for Belt owners, as the first baseman was off to a fine start with a .281/.411/.451 slash line with four home runs and 22 RBI. His high rate of line drives makes him a good bet to continue hitting for a high average, and he could top 20 home runs for the first time if he stays healthy all year. Check back for updates.

Giants | Brandon Belt hits tons of line drives

Tue, 24 May 2016 10:50:39 -0700

San Francisco Giants 1B Brandon Belt has a career .339 batting average on balls in play, and it's a direct result of the high number of line drives that he hits. He ranked first in the majors in line-drive percentage last year and ranks ninth in that category this year.

Fantasy Tip: That means that Belt is a good bet to keep his high average (.287) throughout the season. Although he has only four long balls, Belt has the capability of reaching the 20-homer mark for the first time in his career after slugging 18 in 2015. He's a midrange fantasy starter at first base in all formats.

Giants | Three Giants out Saturday

Sat, 21 May 2016 13:28:27 -0700

San Francisco Giants OF Hunter Pence, 1B Brandon Belt and OF Angel Pagan are out of the lineup Saturday, May 21. 2B Kelby Tomlinson is hitting third, C Trevor Brown is hitting sixth and OF Gregor Blanco hits eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Tomlinson is hitting .483 in limited time this month, and he has upside hitting ahead of Buster Posey. He's a low-end consideration against Jon Lester. Brown has four homers in 47 at-bats, but only one of them has come this month. He's a fringe streamer today. Blanco is hitting .316 against lefties, and he's a low-end consideration today.

Giants | Brandon Belt back in lineup

Thu, 12 May 2016 15:09:56 -0700

San Francisco Giants 1B Brandon Belt (illness) is back in the starting lineup at first base and batting fifth Thursday, May 12, against Arizona Diamondbacks SP Zack Greinke.

Fantasy Tip: Belt was dealing with the flu, which cost him Wednesday afternoon's finale against the Toronto Blue Jays, so this is refreshing news that he only needed one game on the sidelines. The 28-year-old has picked up where he left off from his breakout season a year ago, as he's produced a real nice .313/.445/.530 slash line to go with four home runs, 21 RBI and 19 runs scored. He should be featured in starting lineups in all leagues.

Giants | Brandon Belt out due to illness

Wed, 11 May 2016 11:44:43 -0700

Updating an earlier report, San Francisco Giants 1B Brandon Belt (illness) is out of the lineup Wednesday, May 11, due to illness. Manager Bruce Bochy wants Belt to play every day.

Fantasy Tip: The last line there is pretty important because Belt hasn't really elevated himself to that level until now. He could still sit against tough lefties, but he's a cornerstone to the lineup now. Conor Gillaspie is replacing him today, but he doesn't have much fantasy luster against Marcus Stroman.

Giants | Brandon Belt, Angel Pagan sit out

Wed, 11 May 2016 10:59:15 -0700

San Francisco Giants 1B Brandon Belt and OF Angel Pagan (hamstring) are out of the lineup Wednesday, May 11. 1B Conor Gillaspie is hitting seventh, and OF Gregor Blanco is hitting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Neither Gillaspie nor Blanco are anything to write home about, or write into your lineups, against Marcus Stroman.
