Giants | Brandon Belt flirts with cycle Wednesday

Wed, 27 Apr 2016 17:10:54 -0700

San Francisco Giants 1B Brandon Belt went 3-for-5 with five RBI and two runs scored in a victory over the San Diego Padres Wednesday, April 27. He was a triple shy of hitting for the cycle.

Fantasy Tip: After Wednesday's performance, Belt is batting .303 and is tied for sixth in the National League with 16 RBI. He should be viewed as a midrange first base option in both seasonal and daily fantasy formats.

Giants | Buster Posey out Wednesday

Wed, 27 Apr 2016 10:26:22 -0700

San Francisco Giants C Buster Posey is out of the lineup Wednesday, April 27, with 1B Brandon Belt moving up into the cleanup spot. C Trevor Brown is hitting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Brown hit three homers in the course of two days but hasn't done much otherwise. Pass on him against Andrew Cashner. Belt is 5-for-15 (.333) with a homer against Cashner, and cleanup is a nice boost in the lineup. He's a solid midrange option today.

Sun, 24 Apr 2016 12:23:18 -0700

San Francisco Giants OF Denard Span and 1B Brandon Belt are not in the starting lineup against Miami Marlins SP Adam Conley Sunday, April 24. C Buster Posey will start at first base, while C Trevor Brown will start at catcher and is batting sixth. OF Gregor Blanco will start in center field and is batting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Brown has posted solid numbers in his limited playing time and could be used in daily fantasy leagues. Blanco has gone 4-for-9 with three triples in the last seven days and could be a decent option in daily leagues.

Giants | Brandon Belt takes a seat

Tue, 19 Apr 2016 15:46:11 -0700

San Francisco Giants 1B Brandon Belt is not in the starting lineup against Arizona Diamondbacks left-handed SP Robbie Ray Tuesday, April 19. C Buster Posey moves to first base and C Trevor Brown draws in at catcher and is hitting fifth.

Fantasy Tip: Brown already has three home runs and seven RBI in 13 at-bats to begin the season, so his power stroke is no longer an unknown as the backup to Posey. You could certainly do worse at catcher if you're looking for a sleeper to save cash at the position in daily games.

Giants | Brandon Belt leaves yard again

Thu, 14 Apr 2016 15:55:31 -0700

San Francisco Giants 1B Brandon Belt homered in his second straight game against the Colorado Rockies Thursday, April 14. Belt finished the game 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI to raise his early season average to .333.

Fantasy Tip: Belt could be in line for a breakout season, and he already has three home runs on the year. He has a tough matchup against Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw Friday night, so you'll want to avoid him in daily formats tomorrow.

Giants | Brandon Belt reportedly agrees to extension

Sat, 09 Apr 2016 10:15:15 -0700

San Francisco Giants 1B Brandon Belt has reportedly agreed to terms on a five-year contract extension. Financial terms were not officially released, although it is believed to be worth more than the six-year, $75 million deal SS Brandon Crawford received during the offseason, according to multiple sources.

Fantasy Tip: The 27-year-old Belt would have been eligible for free agency after the 2017 campaign. He hit .280 with a career-high 18 home runs and 68 RBI in 137 games last year and is 5-for-18 to begin this season. Belt should be viewed as a midrange first baseman who should also qualify as an outfielder in most fantasy formats.

Giants | Brandon Belt, Giants renew talks

Wed, 23 Mar 2016 17:00:24 -0700

San Francisco Giants 1B Brandon Belt's representatives and the team renewed talks this week concerning a potential long-term contract extension. It could take awhile, though, as the two sides have submitted widely different arbitration figures in each of the past two offseasons. In the meantime, Belt is locked in during spring training, adding two more home runs Wednesday, March 23, versus the Arizona Diamondbacks. He now has four homers over his last five at-bats and his Cactus League batting average currently sits at .448.

Fantasy Tip: As long as Belt doesn't let contract numbers become a distraction, he could provide excellent value for fantasy owners who are patient in drafting their starting first baseman. Belt is coming off a very fine year in which he hit .280/.356/.478 with 18 home runs and 68 RBI in 137 games. With the way he's slugging this spring, it seems more likely than not he can build on those stats, and arguably has standout potential.

Giants | Brandon Belt extension talks may happen

Tue, 22 Mar 2016 04:59:17 -0700

The San Francisco Giants plan to meet with representatives of 1B Brandon Belt this week to discuss a long-term contract.

Fantasy Tip: After a rocky first couple of seasons, Belt has settled in as a decent slugger who hits well in AT&T Park. He won't be your primary first baseman but should settle in as a decent backup.

Giants | Brandon Belt pounds out four hits

Sun, 20 Mar 2016 20:04:51 -0700

San Francisco Giants 1B Brandon Belt went 4-for-4 with a home run, four RBI and two runs scored in a spring training game Sunday, March 20.

Fantasy Tip: Belt has been streaky throughout his career, but his final numbers are usually good enough to use him as a No. 1 first baseman in deeper mixed leagues.

Brandon Belt due for long-term extension?

Fri, 12 Feb 2016 12:09:06 -0800

San Francisco Giants 1B Brandon Belt is viewed as the long-term fit at first base, and general manager Brian Sabean is keen to re-sign him to a long-term contract extension.

Fantasy Tip: Belt has flashed nice fantasy upside is spurts over the past three seasons, but between injuries and his inconsistency, he has left a lot to be desired for the most part. He should be viewed as a fringe No. 1 first baseman in mixed leagues, but don't be heartbroken if someone swoops in and grabs him from your sights in the middle rounds. Through the past three seasons, Belt has averaged just 405 at-bats, 60 runs, 16 home runs and 54 RBI with a respectable .277/.349/.474 slash line, after all.
