Phillies | Tommy Joseph on the bench

Tue, 26 Jul 2016 12:38:16 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 1B Tommy Joseph is not in the starting lineup against Miami Marlins SP Tom Koehler Tuesday, July 26. 1B Ryan Howard will start at first base and is batting fourth in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Howard has been playing better in July with a .250 batting average and three home runs in 13 games. Owners in daily fantasy leagues that need power could consider using him, but he probably should still be avoided in most leagues.

Phillies | No Tommy Joseph against the Pirates

Sun, 24 Jul 2016 08:46:36 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 1B Tommy Joseph is not in the starting lineup Sunday, July 24. 1B Ryan Howard is starting at first base and is batting fourth against Pittsburgh Pirates SP Jameson Taillon Sunday.

Fantasy Tip: Joseph has some feast or famine in his game with a .264/.299/.529 slash line and 13 home runs through 187 plate appearances. He's a fringe own in mixed leagues and viable option in deeper formats. Howard is nothing more than a desperation flier in daily contests Sunday, albeit one with power potential.

Phillies | Tommy Joseph takes a seat

Thu, 21 Jul 2016 11:46:19 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 1B Tommy Joseph is not in the starting lineup Thursday, July 21. 1B Ryan Howard is starting at first base and is hitting cleanup against Miami Marlins SP Tom Koehler.

Fantasy Tip: Joseph is likely just taking a day off. He's been scorching hot this month, hitting .378 with five home runs and eight RBI after a cold stretch. He's been up and down in his rookie year but should be owned in most deep mixed and NL leagues for his power. Howard has similar power (13 homers) but an ugly .158/.218/.364 slash line. He's an under-the-radar sleeper pick in DFS in a good matchup.

Phillies | Tommy Joseph on a tear

Wed, 20 Jul 2016 06:01:02 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 1B Tommy Joseph is hitting .500 (14-for-28) with five homers and eight RBI in his last nine games.

Fantasy Tip: Joseph has a .264-13-23 line on the season and has become a heightened option in DFS. He should be owned universally in traditional formats.

Phillies | Tommy Joseph launches homer

Tue, 19 Jul 2016 20:52:52 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 1B Tommy Joseph went 2-for-3 with a solo home run, walk and strikeout Tuesday, July 19, against the Miami Marlins.

Fantasy Tip: Joseph has been a real surprise this season, posting 13 homers with 23 RBIs and a respectable .264 average. He has emerged as a solid fantasy option in NL-only leagues of 12 or more teams and as a mid-tier DFS play for his power potential.

Phillies | Ryan Howard draws first post-break start

Sat, 16 Jul 2016 12:55:43 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 1B Ryan Howard is in the lineup, batting fifth against New York Mets SP Logan Verrett and playing first base Saturday, July 16, in place of 1B Tommy Joseph. INF Andres Blanco will hit right behind Howard and replace 2B Cesar Hernandez, while C Carlos Ruiz will fill in for C Cameron Rupp behind the plate and follow Blanco in the order.

Fantasy Tip: Slashing a miserable .158/.217/.356 this season, it is hard to defend using Howard in just about any format. Blanco is getting his first start since July 2 and brings virtually nothing to the fantasy table. Ruiz is 3-for-8 in July but only has 11 RBI in part-time duty this year; he has not homered since April 27, so he can be avoided in fantasy as well.
