Padres | Wil Myers lands on DL

Tue, 19 May 2015 15:29:09 -0700

San Diego Padres OF Wil Myers (wrist) was placed on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday, May 19, with left wrist tendinitis. The DL move is retroactive to May 11. RP Cory Mazzoni was recalled from Class AAA El Paso (Texas) in a corresponding move.

Fantasy Tip: Myers' wrist injury wasn't thought to be all that serious, there's a realistic chance that he'll be ready to go when he's eligible to be activated. In his absence, the Padres will go with some combination of Will Venable ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) and Abraham Almonte ($1,700, 3.4% of cap) in center field. Neither player is very intriguing for FantasyScore players, but Venable offers more speed and offensive upside for your money.

Padres | Wil Myers remains sidelined

Sun, 17 May 2015 11:32:25 -0700

San Diego Padres OF Wil Myers (wrist) remains out of the lineup Sunday, May 17, against the Washington Nationals. OF Abraham Almonte will play center field and bat second.

Fantasy Tip: Myers ($4,800, 9.6% of cap) is a possibility to return to the starting lineup in the next few days. Almonte ($1,700, 3.4% of cap) provides salary cap relief in FantasyScore but not much else.

Padres | Wil Myers still out

Sat, 16 May 2015 14:10:58 -0700

San Diego Padres OF Wil Myers (wrist) is out of the lineup Saturday, May 16, in favor of OF Will Venable.

Fantasy Tip: Venable ($1,900, 3.8% of cap) has five hits in 15 at-bats the last week, but they were all singles. He has just one steal this year, and he's not an attractive option on FantasyScore.

Padres | Wil Myers to avoid DL

Thu, 14 May 2015 16:02:22 -0700

San Diego Padres OF Wil Myers (wrist) is dealing with tendinitis in his left wrist, and he will avoid the disabled list. The Padres hope to have Myers back in the lineup in three or four days.

Fantasy Tip: Hang tight if you own Myers, as he could return sometime early next week. In the meantime, Will Venable ($1,900, 3.8% of cap) and Abraham Almonte ($1,700, 3.4% of cap) could continue to mix and match in center field over the weekend. Both players are merely sleeper picks for an outfield slot, with Venable having more upside.

Padres | Wil Myers still sitting

Thu, 14 May 2015 15:56:41 -0700

San Diego Padres OF Wil Myers (wrist) remains out of the starting lineup Thursday, May 14. OF Will Venable is starting in center field and hitting second in the batting order against Washington Nationals SP Doug Fister.

Fantasy Tip: Venable ($1,900, 3.8% of cap) has just 46 at-bats in a reserve role this year, and he's hitting .261 with three home runs and six RBI. His value slightly increases while hitting in the two-hole, but he's still more of a low-end outfield option in FantasyScore contests.

Padres | Wil Myers to be tested

Wed, 13 May 2015 14:23:21 -0700

San Diego Padres OF Wil Myers (wrist) will have his left wrist scanned in San Diego Wednesday, May 13.

Fantasy Tip: Myers ($4,800, 9.6% of cap) obviously won't be in the lineup again Wednesday, and there's a good chance he'll be out again tomorrow against the Washington Nationals. Abraham Almonte ($1,700, 3.4% of cap) and Will Venable ($1,900, 3.8% of cap) can fill in in center field with Myers out, and both are strictly matchup plays as sleeper picks at FantasyScore.

Padres | Wil Myers scratched

Tue, 12 May 2015 18:50:04 -0700

San Diego Padres OF Wil Myers (wrist) was scratched from the lineup Tuesday, May 12, against the Seattle Mariners due to a sore left wrist. He aggravated the injury during batting practice.

Fantasy Tip: Abraham Almonte ($1,700; or 3.4% of cap) made the start in center field and batted leadoff. It's uncertain if Myers will be forced to miss more time, but Almonte could be a good FantasyScore value if he starts again.

Padres | Will Venable earns another start

Sat, 09 May 2015 15:13:56 -0700

San Diego Padres OF Will Venable is starting in center field Saturday, May 9, shifting OF Wil Myers to first base.

Fantasy Tip: Venable went 3-for-5 with a homer last night. This could be a regular arrangement if he continues hitting. He's worth the speculative flyer at $1,600 (3.2% of your cap) on FantasyScore.

Padres | Will Venable starting in CF

Fri, 08 May 2015 16:49:02 -0700

San Diego Padres OF Will Venable is starting in center field and hitting eighth in the batting order against Arizona Diamondbacks SP Jeremy Hellickson Friday, May 8. OF Wil Myers has moved to first base with 1B Yonder Alonso (shoulder) on the disabled list.

Fantasy Tip: Venable ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) could see an increase in playing time with Alonso on the DL if the Friars elect to use Myers at first base often. Venable is hitting only .133 (4-for-30) this year, though, and he was only able to put up a slash line of .228/.298/.332 against righties in 2014. Venable is a weak play at FantasyScore tonight, but a name to watch if he gets hot with more consistent playing time in the short term.

Padres | Wil Myers to stay in center

Mon, 06 Apr 2015 04:35:08 -0700

San Diego Padres OF Wil Myers will be the team's center fielder despite the trade for OF Melvin Upton Jr., according to general manager A.J. Preller.

Fantasy Tip: Myers ($4,000, 8% of cap) slumped from .293 to .222 last season, but this trade gave him a change of scenery. Upton was only a .208 hitter himself, so Myers and his owners should have nothing to fear for now.
