Diamondbacks | Welington Castillo, Chris Owings sitting

Wed, 04 May 2016 12:33:23 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks C Welington Castillo and SS/OF Chris Owings are not in the starting lineup Wednesday, May 4. 3B Brandon Drury is starting in right field and batting fifth, while C Chris Herrmann is catching and hitting seventh against Miami Marlins SP Jose Fernandez. OF David Peralta moves over to center field.

Fantasy Tip: The matchup is tough for the D-backs, but with Drury so hot (18-for-46, four home runs in last 11 games), it might be worth keeping him in your starting lineups in traditional leagues. Herrmann has six hits in 33 at-bats (.182) and should be avoided everywhere.

Diamondbacks | Chris Owings not starting

Wed, 27 Apr 2016 14:06:21 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks INF/OF Chris Owings is not in the starting lineup against St. Louis Cardinals SP Adam Wainwright Wednesday, April 27. OF David Peralta will start in center field, while OF Brandon Drury will start in right field and is batting seventh in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Drury has been on a hot streak recently with 12 hits and four RBI over his last eight games. He could be a starting candidate in some daily fantasy leagues even though he is facing one of the better pitchers in the National League.

Diamondbacks | Quintet of Arizona hitters catch a break

Sun, 17 Apr 2016 12:02:26 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks 1B Paul Goldschmidt, OF David Peralta, 2B Jean Segura, OF Socrates Brito and C Welington Castillo are not in the lineup on Sunday, April 17, against San Diego Padres SP Robbie Erlin. 2B/OF Rickie Weeks will start in left and bat second, INF Phil Gosselin will play first base and hit third, INF/OF Brandon Drury will move to second base and bat fifth, OF Chris Owings will man center and bat seventh while C Chris Herrmann will set up behind the plate and hit eighth.

Fantasy Tip: For some perspective on how much offensive firepower Arizona is resting on Sunday, Yasmany Tomas moves up from eighth in Saturday's lineup to fourth in today's order. In the wake of last night's 14-inning marathon, the most recommended plays could the pitchers (Erlin and Patrick Corbin), each of whom will face a lineup missing about a good chunk of its regular hitters.

Diamondbacks | Pack of Arizona hitters take a seat

Sun, 10 Apr 2016 12:27:44 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks 2B Jean Segura, C Welington Castillo, LF Yasmany Tomas and SS Nick Ahmed are out of the lineup against Chicago Cubs SP Jake Arrieta on Sunday, April 10. OF Socrates Brito is batting leadoff in place of Segura while 2B Phil Gosselin is at the keystone and hitting second. 3B/OF Brandon Drury is in left and batting fifth while INF/OF Chris Owings is replacing Segura in the field and hitting seventh. C Chris Hermann is behind the plate and batting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Arrieta was already a strong play Sunday and facing a number of Arizona bench players probably isn't going to hurt his cause. Conversely, it's hard to recommend starting any Diamondbacks outside of Paul Goldschmidt and maybe David Peralta in year-long or DFS formats in this contest.

Diamondbacks | Two D-Backs grab some pine

Sat, 09 Apr 2016 15:33:02 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks 3B Jake Lamb and OF Socrates Brito are out of the lineup Saturday, April 9, with OF Chris Owings hitting second and 3B Brandon Drury hitting seventh.

Fantasy Tip: Neither Drury nor Owings are attractive DFS options today against Kyle Hendricks.

Diamondbacks | Yasmany Tomas, Socrates Brito out

Wed, 06 Apr 2016 09:43:52 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks OFs Yasmany Tomas and Socrates Brito are out of the lineup against Colorado Rockies SP Tyler Chatwood Wednesday, April 6. 3B Brandon Drury is starting in left field and hitting sixth, while 2B Chris Owings is in center field and is hitting in the two hole.

Fantasy Tip: With A.J. Pollock (elbow) out for an extended timetable, Owings is attractive for depth in deep mixed and NL-only leagues. Chatwood is making his first start since 2014 because of Tommy John surgery, so both Owings and Drury could be cheap and sneaky daily picks today. Owings is more attractive, though.

Diamondbacks | Chris Owings likely to play center field

Sat, 02 Apr 2016 12:17:02 -0700

Updating a previous report, Arizona Diamondbacks INF/OF Chris Owings is expected to be the opening day starter in center field, according to manager Chip Hale.

Fantasy Tip: Owings has no prior experience at the professional level in center field and hasn't played the position extensively since he was a youth, so don't be surprised if he is lifted frequently in favor of a defensive replacement during the later innings. He could be worth a late-round flier during the later rounds of NL-only fantasy leagues. If Owings sees a good chunk of action in center field due to OF A.J. Pollock's (elbow) injury, INFs Nick Ahmed and Jean Segura could see slight increases in fantasy value because Owings wouldn't be taking playing time away from them at second base and shortstop.

Diamondbacks | Chris Owings plays center field

Sat, 02 Apr 2016 10:46:28 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks INF Chris Owings played several innings in center field during a Cactus League game against the Kansas City Royals Friday, April 1, following the injury to OF A.J. Pollock (elbow), and he is expected to see more time at the position Saturday, April 2. He has never played center field at a professional level, although former manager Kirk Gibson had him shag fly balls there during spring training two years ago.

Fantasy Tip: Owings said he hasn't played the outfield regularly since his childhood and it remains to be seen how often Arizona will use him in center once the regular season starts. At best, he should be viewed as a late-round option in NL-only leagues due to his versatility.

Diamondbacks | Middle infield to rotate in Arizona

Fri, 01 Apr 2016 14:06:53 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks 3B Jake Lamb will start at third base and SS Jean Segura, 2B Nick Ahmed and SS Chris Owings will rotate around at second base and shortstop. Segura is expected to play more at second base than shortstop.

Fantasy Tip: This was expected, although Segura should be in the lineup more often than not. Coming over from Milwaukee will boost Segura's value a bit in a better lineup, but he struggles to get on base and has little power. He'll be a low-end shortstop option but is more valuable in mixed leagues than either Ahmed and Owings.

Diamondbacks | MI rotation in Arizona?

Thu, 24 Mar 2016 11:32:35 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks SS Jean Segura, 2B Chris Owings and SS Nick Ahmed could wind up in a rotation to share at-bats rather than being named starters, according to manager Chip Hale.

Fantasy Tip: This is good news for Ahmed, who appeared to be the odd man out. Ahmed is restricted to NL-only formats, while Segura and Owings are mid-to-low-end options at their positions.
