Mon, 18 Mar 2013 00:15:59 -0700 In his battle to win a starting job in the rotation, Arizona Diamondbacks SP Tyler Skaggs has allowed 16 runs (11 earned) in 12 innings. He gave up five runs (two earned) on three hits and four walks in 2 2/3 innings on Saturday, March 16, against the San Diego Padres. Manager Kirk Gibson said Skaggs has "certainly pressed from the day he came in here" and that still might be thinking too much on the mound. "He's young and has a lot to learn," Gibson said. "If he goes through this, it'll be good for him in the end. He'll learn how to deal with it. But right now, he's just struggling. He's struggling. We'll get him turned around."
Thu, 14 Mar 2013 16:46:20 -0700 Arizona Diamondbacks SP Randall Delgado impressed Thursday, March 14, by throwing four shutout innings. He is competing with SPs Patrick Corbin and Tyler Skaggs for the No. 5 rotation post. "That's as good as we've seen this spring out of our staff," Kirk Gibson said of Delgado. "He looked really good, had good velocity, all his pitches were working. He got into some trouble early and got out of it. That's the kind of guy that we were hoping we'd get."
Wed, 06 Mar 2013 20:50:14 -0800 Arizona Diamondbacks SP Patrick Corbin suffered his first poor outing of the spring Wednesday, March 6, allowing four runs in one inning against the Kansas City Royals. He is battling SPs Randall Delgado and Tyler Skaggs for the fifth starter spot in the rotation.
Wed, 06 Mar 2013 17:19:47 -0800 Arizona Diamondbacks SP Tyler Skaggs, who is competing for the No. 5 rotation spot, threw three shutout innings against Team Mexico Wednesday, March 6. Wed, 13 Feb 2013 19:58:18 -0800 Arizona Diamondbacks SP Tyler Skaggs was 6-foot-4, 180 pounds when he was drafted in 2009. He is now up to about 213 pounds, putting on the kind of weight to help him shoulder a heavy, starting pitcher's workload. "It's good to have a big pitcher's body," Skaggs said. "I think it's going to help me. I've just got to maintain it this year." Fantasy Tip: Skaggs heads into camp battling Patrick Corbin and Randall Delgado for the fifth starter's spot. Whoever wins the job will be a decent NL-only fantasy option. Even if Skaggs loses the battle, he is still a nice long-term keeper option.
Tue, 12 Feb 2013 13:56:20 -0800 Arizona Diamondbacks general manager Kevin Towers said there is no favorite between SPs Tyler Skaggs, Patrick Corbin and Randall Delgado for the fifth spot in the rotation. The losers of the competition will both report to Triple-A Reno because the team sees all three pitchers as rotation options and not relievers.
