Angels | Tyler Skaggs ready for the majors?

Fri, 22 Jul 2016 15:06:49 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Tyler Skaggs (elbow) could be activated from the disabled list to start as soon as Sunday, July 24, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: It would be wise to take a wait-and-see approach with Skaggs outside of cavernous mixed and AL-only leagues, but he did post a 2.51 ERA with 45 strikeouts over 32 1/3 innings through seven starts with Class AAA Salt Lake. There is some upside and Skaggs is a hurler to watch.

Angels | Tyler Skaggs rehab update

Fri, 15 Jul 2016 17:14:13 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Tyler Skaggs (elbow, shoulder) is expected to make at least one more rehab start for Class AAA Salt Lake before rejoining the parent club's starting rotation.

Fantasy Tip: Skaggs is recovering from Tommy John surgery and has not pitched in the majors since 2014. However, he has fared well in the minors this season, going 2-2 with a 1.87 ERA in eight starts at three different levels, with five walks and 41 strikeouts over 33 2/3 innings. The 25-year-old left-hander should be rostered in AL-only fantasy leagues and is worth monitoring in deep mixed leagues as well.

Angels | Tyler Skaggs to make rehab start

Wed, 13 Jul 2016 19:31:39 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Tyler Skaggs (elbow, shoulder) scheduled to start Thursday, July 15, for Class AAA Salt Lake. He had a few extra days since his last start due to fatigue.

Fantasy Tip: Skaggs should be avoided in all fantasy formats until he can officially return and prove his health in a full start or two without any setbacks.

Angels | Tyler Skaggs suffers slight setback

Fri, 08 Jul 2016 14:05:16 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Tyler Skaggs (elbow, shoulder) felt fatigued after throwing 73 pitches during his rehab start Thursday, July 7, and he will now have extra rest before making his next start. He was originally scheduled to throw 90 pitches Thursday.

Fantasy Tip: Skaggs offers some promise in cavernous mixed and AL-only leagues, but he still isn't close to returning to the majors. He's a potential stash in those deep leagues, but in the majority of settings, Skaggs is in a wait-and-see situation. Additionally, he might only be able to start a half dozen games this year, so his potential impact is limited.

Angels | Tyler Skaggs moving rehab

Mon, 27 Jun 2016 15:37:21 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Tyler Skaggs (elbow, shoulder) is moving his rehab from extended spring training to Class A Inland Empire. He hasn't pitched in a minor league game since April.

Fantasy Tip: It's progress for Skaggs, although he's been slow to recover from Tommy John surgery. The left-hander has flashed promising stuff when healthy, but fantasy owners in all leagues will have to wait longer for Skaggs to prove that he can stay healthy. There's a chance he could surface with the Angels later this year and provide services for those in deep mixed and AL-only leagues, but don't hold your breath.

Angels | Tyler Skaggs will pitch Wednesday

Mon, 20 Jun 2016 14:40:55 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Tyler Skaggs (elbow, shoulder) will throw a three-inning extended spring training outing in Arizona Wednesday, June 22.

Fantasy Tip: Skaggs is working his way back from Tommy John surgery and has had some hiccups along the way. He hasn't pitched since 2014 when he posted a 4.30 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 6.8 K/9. At this point, you'll want to take a wait-and-see approach with Skaggs outside of cavernous mixed and AL-only setups.

Angels | Another setback for Tyler Skaggs

Tue, 14 Jun 2016 16:21:24 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Tyler Skaggs (elbow, shoulder) has had his throwing program slowed in Arizona with a shoulder setback. Skaggs had Tommy John surgery back in 2014.

Fantasy Tip: The Angels don't believe Skaggs' shoulder issues are serious, but he won't be able to start a rehab assignment anytime soon. It's been one thing after another for Skaggs, who was promising before his elbow surgery two years ago. It could be another lost season for him.

Angels | Tyler Skaggs getting closer

Mon, 06 Jun 2016 14:41:34 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Tyler Skaggs' (elbow, shoulder) next outing in Arizona -- five innings Wednesday, June 8 -- will be his last before rejoining Class AAA.

Fantasy Tip: Skaggs is still on the comeback trail from Tommy John surgery and has not appeared in a major league game since the middle of the 2014 season, when he was 5-5 with a 4.30 ERA in 18 starts. The left-hander will carry some noteworthy potential when he's finally ready to return to the big league club, so owners might want to think about stashing him in AL-only formats. Eventually, he should have mixed league appeal, too.

Angels | Tyler Skaggs continues to progress

Fri, 03 Jun 2016 15:15:42 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Tyler Skaggs (elbow) threw four innings during an extended spring training outing Friday, June 3. He was originally scheduled to throw three innings, but his pitch count was low. General Manager Billy Eppler said the reports on Skaggs were "really good."

Fantasy Tip: Skaggs still has a few more hurdles to clear before returning to the rotation for Los Angeles, but he remains a viable stash candidate in cavernous mixed and AL-only leagues. Stay tuned for updates.

Angels | Tyler Skaggs throws Wednesday

Wed, 25 May 2016 19:03:44 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Tyler Skaggs (biceps, neck) threw his third bullpen session Wednesday, May 25, and is scheduled to throw a simulated game Saturday, May 28.

Fantasy Tip: Skaggs is recovering from Tommy John surgery and should remain stashed in AL-only and cavernous mixed fantasy leagues. Given the state of the Angels' rotation, he has a decent chance of earning a starting role once he is healthy enough to return.
