The Cincinnati Reds placed 3B Miguel Cairo (hamstring) on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left hamstring Tuesday, April 17, and recalled 2B Todd Frazier from Triple-A Louisville in a corresponding move.

The Cincinnati Reds told 3B Todd Frazier that he will be playing primarily at third base with Triple-A Louisville, and he could be potential insurance down the road should something happen to 3B Scott Rolen. "He'll still play some first base and some corner outfield, but mostly third," manager Dusty Baker said. "That is the position he needed the most reps at, possibly for his sake and our sake."

The Cincinnati Reds optioned 2B Todd Frazier to Triple-A Louisville Wednesday, April 4, in order to finalize their 25-man roster. RPs Ryan Madson (elbow) and Nick Masset (shoulder) were placed on the 15-day disabled list. RP Jordan Smith (elbow) was also placed on the 15-day DL and OF Willie Harris' contract was purchased.

Cincinnati Reds manager Dusty Baker said he's not worried about the health of 3B Scott Rolen this year. Baker is confident Rolen will be out on the field and will play as many games as his body will allow. However, Baker plans to keep Rolen fresh this spring and won't overwork him. INFs Juan Francisco, Wilson Valdez, Chris Valaika, Todd Frazier, Willie Harris and Paul Janish are all in the mix for the last bench spots, and any one of them could wind up spelling Rolen at third. INF Miguel Cairo is another option.

Cincinnati Reds OF Chris Heisey could be the team's best current option to start in left field next season. The other options are OFs Todd Frazier and Dave Sappelt. OF Denis Phipps could be the wild card in this situation, but he's likely to start the year at Triple-A Louisville.
